By high speed Liquid Droplet Impingement (LDI) on material, fluid systems are seriously damaged, therefore, it is important for the solution of the erosion problem of fluid systems to consider the effect of material in LDI. In this study, by using an in-house fluid/material two-way coupled method which considers reflection and transmission of pressure, stress and velocity on the fluid/material interface, high-speed LDI on wet/dry material surface is simulated. As a result, in the case of LDI on wet surface, maximum equivalent stress are less than those of dry surface due to damping effect of liquid film. Empirical formula of the damping effect function is formulated with the fluid factors of LDI, which are impingement velocity, droplet diameter and thickness of liquid film on material surface.

This paper describes the potential advantages in applying evaporative cooling to air-cooled condensers. The cooling characteristics of an air-cooled condenser with its surface fully covered with thin water film are investigated and compared with that of an air-cooled condenser with usual dry surface. By applying the evaporative cooling, the cooling performance of the condenser is shown to improve enormously. When the outdoor air is 35$^{\circ}C$ and 40% in relative humidity, the condensing temperature of the refrigerant is decreased by 2$0^{\circ}C$. Even when the incoming air is fully saturated with water vapor, the evaporation from the wet surface occurs to cause a decrease in the condensing temperature by 1$0^{\circ}C$. The main reason for this improvement is assessed as the addition of an efficient cooling mechanism which is the water evaporation resulting in latent heat absorption.

This study reports the origin of the electrochemical improvement of $LiFePO_4$ when synthesized by wet milling using acetone without conventional carbon coating. The wet milled $LiFePO_4$ delivers 149 $mAhg^{-1}$ at 0.1 C, which is comparable to carbon coated $LiFePO_4$ and approximately 74% higher than that of dry milled $LiFePO_4$, suggesting that the wet milling process can increase the capacity in addition to conventional carbon coating methods. UV spectroscopy, elemental microanalysis, and evolved gas analysis are used to find the root cause of the capacity improvement during the mechanochemical reaction in acetone. The analytical results show that the improvement is attributed to the conductive residual carbon on the surface of the wet milled $LiFePO_4$ particles, which is produced by the reaction of $FeC_2O_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ with acetone during wet milling through oxygen deficiency in the precursor.

In a micro-scale contact, capillary force and van der Waals interaction significantly influence the contact between asperities of rough surfaces. Little is, however, known about the variation of these surface forces as a function of chemical property of the surface (wet angle), relative humidity and deformation of asperities in the real area of contact. A better understanding of these surface forces is of great necessity in order to find a solution for reducing friction and adhesion of micro surfaces. The objective of this study is to investigate the surface forces in micro-scale rough surface contact. We proposed an effective method to analyze capillary and van der Waals forces in micro-scale contact. In this method, Winkler spring model was employed to analyze the contact of rough surfaces that were obtained from atomic force microscopy (AFM) height images. Self-mated contact of DLC(diamond like carbon) coatings was analyzed, as an example, by the proposed model. It was shown that the capillary force was significantly influenced by relative humidity and wet angle of the DLC surface. The deformation of asperities to a critical magnitude by external loading led to a considerable increase of both capillary and van der Waals forces.
In this paper, the surface of electrodes used in solar cells was roughened using wet etching method among surface texturing method, and after surface treatment, dye sensitive solar cell using TiO2 oxide semiconductor was produced. The surface spectroscopic properties of surface treated electrodes were analyzed according to etching time, and by evaluating the electrical properties of TiO2 dye-sensitized solar cells produced according to etching time, the study on improving the efficiency of solar cells according to surface treatment was conducted. As a result, solar cells that etched the electrode surface for 10 minutes could see an improvement of about 27.46[%] over their existing efficiency.
Graphene is a monolayer of carbon atoms (approximately 0.34 nm), arranged in a honeycomb network. It has been hailed as a next-generation flexible and transparent material because it has high electrical and thermal conductivities, excellent mechanical properties, as well as flexible and transparent properties. The wettability of graphene alters its adhesion or surface energy, and it is therefore an important parameter influencing its application in the fabrication of next-generation flexible and transparent electronics. Studies on the wettability of graphene are numerous and various opinions exist. However, almost all of these studies use the wet transfer method to transfer the graphene. In this study, therefore, we investigated the effect of wet and dry transfer methods on water contact angles of graphene on a substrate. The contact angles of substrates vary depending on the type of substrate. It was found that after graphene is transferred to the substrate, regardless of transfer method, the graphene/substrate contact angle increases to a value. The contact angle of graphene transferred using the dry transfer method is higher than the contact angle of graphene transferred using wet transfer methods. The wet transferred graphene is affected by the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) residue and the polar surface of substrate. The dry transferred graphene is influenced by the conformal contact between graphene and substrate.
The microstructure of particle stabilized wet foams can be tailored by using parameters including the amphiphile concentration, contact angle, and surface tension. The influence of these parameters on the porosity is satisfactorily described in terms of a combined influence of the contact angle and surface tension of the initial suspensions that are directly affected by the amphiphile concentration. The resulting macroporous structures exhibited a total porosity of 82%. The foam cells were predominantly closed due to the air bubbles of the original wet foams being completely covered.
The effect of polyvinyl alcohol/polyamide-epichlorohydrin (PVA/PAE) complex strengthening additive on dry and wet strength and surface properties of paper was investigated. The enhancements of dry and wet strength and dimensional stability were found when PVA/PAE was applied as a complex strengthening additive compared with the cases of applying individual PVA or PAE. This was understood as physical crosslinking between PVA and PAE in the PVA/PAE complex strength additive. This complex strengthening additive also lowered surface roughness and increased sizing. As a result, PVA/PAE complex strengthening additive provided the distinctive gain dot in printed papers.

In general, the air-side j and f factors of evaporators or condensers are obtained through single-design tests performed under air-dry and wet-bulb temperatures. Considering that the indoor or outdoor air temperatures vary significantly during the operation of an air conditioner, it is necessary to confirm that the experimentally-obtained j and f factors are widely applicable under variable air conditions. In this study, a series of tests were conducted on a two-row slit-finned heat exchanger to confirm the applicability. The results showed that, for the dry-surface condition, the changes of the tube-side water temperature, water-flow rate, and air temperature had virtually no effect on the air-side j and f factors. For the wet condition, however, the f factor was significantly affected by these changes; contrarily, the j factor is relatively independent regarding this change. The formulation of the possible reasoning is in consideration of the condensation behavior underneath the tube. The wet-surface j and f factors are larger than those of the dry surface, with a larger amount for the f factor.

Many techniques have been proposed and investigated for microlens array manufacturing in three-dimensional (3D) structures. We present fabricating a microlens array using selective laser etching and a CO2 laser. The femtosecond laser was employed to produce multiple micro-cracks that comprise the predesigned 3D structure. Subsequently, the wet etching process with a KOH solution was used to produce the primary microlens array structures. To polish the nonoptical surface to the optical surface, we performed reflow postprocessing using a CO2 laser. We confirmed that the micro lens array can be manufactured in three primary shapes (cone, pyramid and hemisphere). Compared to our previous study, the processing time required for laser processing was reduced from approximately 1 hour to less than 30 seconds using the proposed processing method. Therefore, micro lens arrays can be manufactured using our processing method and can be applied to mass productionon large surface areas.
