  • Inconel 625 is useful in variety of industrial applications because of the resistance to attack in various corrosive media at temperatures from $200^{\circ}C$ to aver $1090^{\circ}C$, in combination with good law- and high temperature mechanical strength. Rencently, this material is also used widely in offshore processing piping in order to extend the maintenance term and improve the quality of anti-corrosion. In general, high quality weldments for this material are readily produced by commonly used processes. Not all processes are applicable to this material group, Ni-alloys. • Alloy 625 is used widely in industrial applications such as aeronautical aerospace, chemical, petrochemical and marine applications. Because of a good combination of yield strength. tensile strength, creep strength, excellent fabricability, weldability and good resistance to high temperature corrosion on prolonged exposure to aggressive environments. High qualify weldments for this material are readily produced by commonly used processes. But all of processes are not applicable to this material by reason of unavailability of matching, position or suitable welding filler metals and fluxes may limit the choice of welding processes. Recently, the flux cored wire is developed and applied for the better productivity in several welding position including the vortical position. In this study. the weldability and weldment characteristics of Alloy 625 are evaluated in FCAW weld associated with the several shielding gases($80\%Ar+20\%\;CO_2,\;50\%Ar+50\%\;CO_2.\;100\%\;CO_2$) in viewpoint of welding productivity. The results of the experimental study on corrosive characteristics of Alloy 625 are as follows; There is no remarkable difference among shielding gases. however they has a striking difference among corrosive solutions by results of distinguished density and time of corrosive solution. Generally, the shielding gases($80\%Ar+20\%\;CO_2$) was superior to the other gases on high temperature tensile and a low temperature impact. but all of the shield gases were making satisfactory results on corrosion test.

  • In this study, a preview-sensing visual sensor system is constructed far weld seam tracking in GMA welding. The visual sensor system consists of a CCD camera, a diode laser system with a cylindrical lens, and a band-pass-filter to overcome the degrading of image due to spatters and/or arc light. Among the image processing methods, Hough transform method is compared with the central difference method from a viewpoint of the capability for extracting the accurate feature position. As a result, it was revealed that Hough transform method can more accurately extract the feature positions and it can be applied to real time weld seam tracking. Image processing which includes Hough transform method is carried out to extract straight lines that express laser stripe. After extracting the lines, weld joint position and edge points are determined by intersecting the lines. Even though the image includes a spatter trace on it, it is possible to recognize the position of weld joint. Weld seam tracking was precisely implemented with adopting Hough transform method, and it is possible to track the weld seam in the case of offset angle is in the region of $\pm$ $15^{\circ}$.

  • In shipbuilding industry, welding position are usually flat and vertical position at the erection stage. Application of SAW and EGW for these positions makes it possible to achieve enhanced productivity and high quality. But owing to their large size and weight it is difficult to apply these techniques in short and narrow regions. To overcome this problem, our company developed light weight and compact size 4-axis welding carriage which perform 3D weaving. The purpose of this study is to explain the development and application of intelligent welding carriage using 3D weaving pattern that can fill a large amount of welds and thereby making it possible to achieve high quality of welding. This study shows 3D weaving pattern, development of weaving database, and skill of adaptive control response for the variable gap. Also, it shows the results of procedure qualification test for the AH-grade steel when applied to the intelligent welding carriage.

  • In laser welding, automatic seam tracking is important to adjust the laser head position in real time as it moves along the seam. Also if the joint gap is occurred, filling the missing material into the joint gap is necessary to prevent welding defects and bad welding quality. In general, the joint gap width is not constant along the seam due to a variety of reason. So it is essential to control the filler wire speed into the joint gap to acquire good welding quality. This paper describes an intelligent filler wire feeding device which can control 3-dimensional seam tracking and the filler wire speed by measuring the gap position and the joint gap width in laser welding. We call this device as Smart Micro Control system(SMC). To achieve this objective, we assessed weld quality in 2mm sheets of A16061 which had various gap width by using the developed device. From the experimental results, It was found the possibility that the developed device could be used in welding various 3-dimensional structures.

  • Many automated welding equipment are used in the industry. However, there are some problems to get quality welds because of the geometric error, thermal distortion, and incorrect joint fit-up. These factors can make the gap between base plates in case of a thick plate welding. The welding product with the quality welds can not be obtained without consideration of the gap. In this paper, the robot path and welding conditions are modified to get the quality weld by detecting the position and size of the gap. In this work, a low-priced laser range sensor is used. The 3-dimensional information is obtained using the motion of a robot, which holds a laser range sensor. The position and size of the gap is calculated using signal processing of the measured 3-dimensional information of joint profile geometry. The data measured by a laser range sensor is segmented by an iterative end point method. The segmented data is optimized by the least square method. The existence of gap is detected by comparing the data with the segmented shape of template. The effects of robot measuring speed and gap size are also tested. The recognizability fo the gap is verified as good by comparing the real joint profile and the calculated joint profile using the signal processing.

  • A laser welding was applied between sintered tip of Fe-Co-W and low carbon steel shank for the diamond saw blade. The welding characteristics and formation of defects were investigated carefully for the weld fusion zone in different welding condition. Dendrite arm spacing in weld bead decreased with decrease of heat input. Co and W increased and Fe decreased in the weld fusion zone with increase of the heat input. The corresponding change of composition was observed with the change of beam position. The maximum and total length of crack decreased with increase of the heat input. The crack in weld bead was propagated along the dendrite boundary and was caused mainly by the segregation of constituent during the solidification.

  • Arc blow being occurred by Electro-Magnetic force(EMF) during the electric arc welding prevents the formation of a sound weldment. In this study, the effects of arc position, groove size, tack weld and base plate on the EMF in a butt-joint welding of mild steel plate are analyzed by a computer simulation based on the finite element method. The EMF can be numerically identified to be caused by a difference of the magnetic flux-density between ahead of and behind the arc in case that the workpiece locates asymmetrically around the uc. When there exists an air gap of groove ahead of the arc in the welding direction, the similar magnetic force has been producted regardless of the arc position and the gap size. The tack weld alleviates the magnetic force to about one fourth at the finish end of the workpiece. The magnetic force can be also significantly reduced with the base plate to about one fifth at the start end of the workpiece containing a tack weld.

  • In this paper, an intelligent system to determine welding parameters for each pass and welding position in pipeline welding based on one database and FEM model, two BP neural network models and a C-NN model was developed and validated. The preliminary test of the system has indicated that the developed system could determine welding parameters fur pipeline welding quickly, from which good weldments can be produced without experienced welding personnel. Experiments using the predicted welding parameters from the developed system proved the feasibility of interface standards and intelligent control technology to increase productivity, improve quality, and reduce the cost of system integration.
