Design and Output Characteristic of AC Pulse Current for MIG Welding of Ai Sheet (박판 Al MIG 용접용 AC펄스 전류 파형의 설계 및 출력특성)

  • Since new types of vehicles or structures made from thin aluminum alloy are under rapid development and some products are already on the market, welding of aluminium sheet is increasing. MIG(Metal Inert Gas), MIG-Pulse, TIG(Tungsten Inert Gas) welding are the typical Ai welding. MIG welding has the advantage of high speed, but it is difficult to apply to the thin plate, because of bum-through by the high heat input and spatter. MIG-Pulse welding can weld without spatter and burn-through, but when the gap exists at the welding joint, there is quite a possibility of bum-through. TIG welding is difficult to weld at a high speed. AC Pulse welding alternates between DCEP(Direct Current Electrode Positive) and DCEN(Direct Current Electrode Negative). DCEN is higher wire melting rate than DCEP, while lower temperature of droplet than DCEP. In AC Pulse welding, far fixed welding current, wire melting rate increases as the EN ratio increases. For fixed wire feed rate, welding current decreases as the EN ratio increases. Because of these features, the temperature of droplet, the depth of penetration, the width of bead decrease and the reinforcement height increases as EN ratio increases, and these are able to weld at a high speed, lower heat input. It is the purpose of this study that design of AC pulse current waveform for MIG welding of Al sheet and estimation of output characteristic.

Analysis of Welding Phenomena and Effect of Short Circuit Current Rise Slope in the High Speed $CO_2$ Welding of Steel Sheets ($CO_2$박판 고속용접에서 용접현상 분석과 전류상승기울기의 영향)

  • In high speed $CO_2$ welding, it has been blown to produce no sound bead with undercut or humping bead. In this study welding phenomena through synchronized high speed camera and output welding voltage and current waveform has been analyzed. For the purpose to improve a welding bead, effect of short circuit current rise slope has been examined. With commercial power source it was produced no sound bead by instantaneous short circuit, long arc period and stubbing at welding speed 2.5mm/min Humping bead or undercut were showed by instantaneous short circuit and long arc period. Also, the weld bead was not formed during the long short circuit period after stubbing start and long arc extinguishment period after wire sticking by failure of arc regeneration, because the droplet was not transferred to weld pool. With increasing short circuit current rise slope the frequency of stubbing was decreased and the normal short circuit rate was increased. A control of short circuit current rise slope was effective factor in high speed welding.

  • GMA용접은 높은 생산성과 자동화 효율로 널리 사용되고 있다. 그러나 종래의 인버터 용접기는 스패터 발생이 높고 고속용접이 어려운 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 와이어 송급 전후진을 가능하게 하는 장치를 개발하였고 개발된 장치를 H사의 펄스용접기에 장착하여 기계적 제어(와이어 전후진 고속 송급제어)를 통해 저스패터와 고속 용접이 가능한 기계적 전류파형을 개발하였다. 스패터는 단락과 아크발생시에 높은 전류로 인해 발생되기 때문에 기계적 제어를 통하여 Fig. 1에 보는 바와 같이 낮은 전류에서 단락과 아크발생이 일어나 스패터 발생이 줄어들게 되고 기계적 제어를 통해 단락과 아크발생 주기가 일정하게 되어 아크의 안정성 및 고속용접에 유리하게 된다. 개발된 기계적 파형을 이용하여 가장 스패터 발생이 많은 재료인 스틸과 $CO_2$를 보호가스로 하여 용접전류와 용접 속도를 변화시키며 실험한 결과 저스패터 및 1.5m/min이상의 용접 속도에서 안정된 비드를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • Recently, application of arc welding to galvanized carbon steel sheet is on the increasing Ould in the fields of automobile and construction industries. In arc welding process, zinc is evaporated in weld pool, even under the appropriate welding condition and produce blowhole and/or pit. Zinc gas cause instability of arc and increase spatter and fume. This research is purposed to minimize the heat-input and the formation of porosities in the welded joint of the galvanized carbon steel sheet using variable polarity AC wave pulse MIG welding system. An appropriate welding condition which showed low spatter and good bead appearance was acquired by applying the AC pulse MIG welding machine to DC duplicated MIG welding with the solid wire. When oxygen gas was added to shield gas of MIG welding for galvanized steel sheet, arc length was increased and arc stability was improved. In the AC duplicated welding, the loss of galvanized layer was decreased as the amount of heat-input was decreased when the EN ratio was increased under the condition that average welding current was evenly set.

Analysis on the Characteristic of Current Waveform and Welding for SM45C Using FCAW According to Gas Mixture Ratio (FCAW를 이용한 SM45C의 혼합가스비율에 따른 전류파형 및 용접특성 연구)

  • This study, analyzed the waveform and mechanical properties of flux cored arc Welding on SM45C. $CO_2$ 10% + Ar 90% shows the lowest standard deviation and shunt ratio at which the arc was most stable. $CO_2$ 10% + Ar 90% is equal to $CO_2$ 20% + Ar 80%. therefore, $CO_2$ 20% + Ar 80% is the best of mixture gases. The hardness test result for the gas mixture ratio of $CO_2$ 10% + Ar 90% was HV 249.7 which is the highest measured value. According to tensile test results, the tensile strength increased with increasing Ar in the mixture gas. This was because of the inertness of the argon, which does not combine with other elements, causing $CO_2$ to combine with pearlite and ferrite and decreasing the maximum tensile strength. Microstructural examination results show that with increasing Ar, ferrite generation decreases while the mild microstructure increases which influences the hardness.

  • Generally the control method of wire feeding motor in welding machine has been used full-wave phase control method. The fire-angle control generates low frequency speed ripple, and it causes the output current ripple. So it results in the variation of welding condition and low welding performances such as spatter generation and bead state. For the purpose of welding performances improvement by speed controller in wire feeding motor, in this paper the constant speed control method for welding machine is proposed. The proposed system is composed of speed control loop and current control loop. As a result of experiment by using proposed constant wire feed experiment by using proposed constant wire feed speed controller, the output voltage and current waveform and metal transfer are maintained stably. And moreover the number of instantaneous short circuit occurrence is reduced remarkably.

Influence of the Groove Angle on Arc Characteristics in Pulsed GMA Weaving Welding (펄스 GMA 위빙 용접에서 그루브형상에 따른 아크특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, arc characteristics of V groove joints using pulsed GMA welding were found out. The bevel angles of $22.5^{\circ}$ and $30.0^{\circ}$ were chose to make the V groove configuration with the groove angles of $45^{\circ}$ and $60.0^{\circ}$, respectively. In the experiment, the arc current waveform measurement and the high speed photography were taken to investigate the arc characteristics for a single-beveled asymmetric workpiece. Consequently, the welding current was changed abnormally around the edge of groove. As the arc moved close to the groove face, the welding current was increased rapidly because the welding arc was affected by the inclined surface. Also the welding current waveforms were measured for the double-sided symmetric workpiece to verify the previous measurements for the single-beveled workpiece, and similar current waveforms were found.

  • The conventional $CO_2$ inverter arc machine has constant voltage output characteristic and uses constant wire speed controller for welding current control. By adoption of PWM inverter to the welding machine, the spattering was reduced rather than the thyrister arc welding machine or AC arc welding machine. Moreover, by the high switching frequency, the output reactor size could be reduced evidently. Recently, the studies on optimal voltage and current waveform for the welding performance improvement have been studied. In this paper, a new instantaneous output current control scheme during the short circuit mode was proposed and showed the capability of arc stability improvement and the reduction of spatter generation.
