Effect of Si on Arc Stability of MAG Welding (MAG용접의 Arc안정성에 미치는 Si의 영향)

  • The effect of Si content in welding wires on th arc stability was investigate, in the region of short circuit transfer and spray transfer. In the region of short circuit transfer, with increasing Si content, average arcing time and average short circuit time were increased. Therefore, droplet transfer frequency was decreased, due to the increase of arcing time and peak current at the moment of arc-reiginition was increased, due to the increase of short circuit time. In the region of spray transfer, the fluctuations of arc current and arc voltage was the most stable in wire with Si content of about 00.60 wt.%.

  • The effect of S content in welding wires on the arc stability was investigated, in the region of short circuit transfer and spray transfer. In the region of short circuit transfer, with increasing S content, average arcing time and average short circuit time were decreased.   • In order to investigate the predominant factors which determine penetration depth and bead width in electron beam welding, bead-on-plate welding was carried out using 7075-T6 Al alloy. The results obtained from the present experiments can be summarized as follows; 1) With increasing accelerating voltage, bead width (B.W) decreases but penetration increases remarkably. 2) Increasing beam current results in increase of bead width and penetration respectively, and decrease of the ratio of penetration increment to beam current increment. 3) With increasing welding speed penetration decreases remarkably, while bead width creases.

  • A new method was investigated to measure the high current in resistance welding processes. A measuring unit was developed by using a strain gage attached on the outer surface of a steel ring. The steel ring was placed around a section of the secondary loop of the welding machine, and was deformed by electro-magnetic forces induced by the high welding current. The circumferential constituent of the ring deformation was then used to obtain a signal voltage proportional to the secondary welding current. The strain gage signal of ring deformation is enough to determine the welding current in resistance spot welding, especially when welded with direct current.

  • The gas metal arc welding(GMAW) is regarded as one of the best candidate for welding automation in industrial joining application. It is important to monitor the weld quality for the high performance of weld automation. The measured analog signal is frequency analyzed by digital signal process method. In order to observe the welding phenomena and control welding condition, arc light, voltage, and current are measured at the same time. They are analyzed and compared with arc sound. for these experiments, a power source of constant voltage characteristics was used in the pure metal transfer mode.

  • In high speed $CO_2$ welding, it has been blown to produce no sound bead with undercut or humping bead. In this study welding phenomena through synchronized high speed camera and output welding voltage and current waveform has been analyzed. For the purpose to improve a welding bead, effect of short circuit current rise slope has been examined. With commercial power source it was produced no sound bead by instantaneous short circuit, long arc period and stubbing at welding speed 2.5mm/min Humping bead or undercut were showed by instantaneous short circuit and long arc period. Also, the weld bead was not formed during the long short circuit period after stubbing start and long arc extinguishment period after wire sticking by failure of arc regeneration, because the droplet was not transferred to weld pool. With increasing short circuit current rise slope the frequency of stubbing was decreased and the normal short circuit rate was increased. A control of short circuit current rise slope was effective factor in high speed welding.

  • Shielded metal arc welding machines with AC transformer have been widely used for thin-plate welding applications. Because of being bulky, heavy and of tap-changing property, so the SMAW's are changing to new power electronic circuits such as inverter circuit in order to reduce the system size and also to improve the welding performances at input output sides. The PWM inverter arc welding machine with diode rectifier has better output welding performances but it is has the plentiful harmonics and the lower input power factor. To solve these problems, input current-controlled scheme is considered for PWM inverter arc welding system, and then total input power factor is maintained to be more than 99%. Also a new combined control is proposed which can control both instantaeous welding output voltage and current under constant power condition, and as a result the variations of instantaneous current and voltage can be reduced to very narrow range in the V-I curve relationship, and hence the variance of welding current and voltage become so reduced. In addition the spatter generated during welding process is greatly reduced up to 70%. And the overall effiency can be improved up to 10%, which becomes higher when the load is lower.

  • 590MPa grade weldable steels were gas metal arc welded with flux cored wires. Welding parameters such as current, voltage, and speed were varied independently. Effects of each parameter on the strength and chemical composition of weld metal were investigated. Increase of voltage caused decrease of weld metal tensile strength due to the low recovery of alloying elements such as carbon and manganese. On the contrary, increase of current and speed resulted in increase of weld metal strength because of higher recovery of the alloying elements.

  • This paper describes for applications of neural networks in the field of arc welding. Conventional, automated process generally involves sophisticated sensing and control techniques applied to various processing parameters. Welding parameters affecting quality include the arc voltage, the welding current and the torch travel speed. The relationship between the welding parameters and weld quality is not a direct one, and in addition, the effect of the weld parameter variables are not independent of the each other - changing the welding current will affect the arc voltage, and so on. Finally, a suitable proposal to improve the construction of the model has also been presented in the paper.

  • Recently, welding technology of nonferrous metals which were difficult to implement by arc welder has become available through digitalization of arc welding machine. Among them, the welding quality improvement of aluminum welding is very noticeable. These results increase the arc stability by controlling arc current and voltage waveform precisely, and control wire feed speed by synchronizing with arc current which the feed rate of filler wire is controlled by a precise motor control of servomotor and not by a simple constant speed feeding. Not only through the hardware digitalization of arc welding machine but also through advance of software of arc welding, it became possible to implement a certain level of welding quality by a simple operation. These led to CMT welding process implementation which requires low heat input than current arc welding and highly increased the applicability of the aluminum welding.
