  • In this study, we conducted laser welding by using remote scanner that is 5J32 aluminum alloy to observe the mechanical properties and optimize welding process parameters. As the control factors, laser incident angle, laser power and welding speed were set and as the result of weldablility, tensile shear tests were performed. ANOVA (Analysis of Variation) was also carried out to identify the influence of process variables on tensile shear strength. Strength estimation models were suggested using regression alnalysis and 2nd order polynomial model had the best estimation performance. In addition optimal welding condition was determined in terms with wedalility and productivity using objective function and fitness function. Final optimized welding condition was laser power was 4 kW, and welding speed was 4.6 m/min.

  • Magnesium alloys are becoming important material for light weight car body, due to their low specific density but high specific strength. However they have a poor weldability, caused high oxidization tendency and low vapor temperature. In this study, the laser welding performance of magnesium alloys was investigated for automobile application. The materials were rolled magnesium alloy sheet contains 3%Al and 1%Zn. To evaluate the weldability, we examined the appearance of welding bead. The mechanical property was measured for welded specimen by tensile test. And formability was checked with the Erichsen tester. For the results, the performance of weld in laser welding was enough for press forming such as car body. But it was recommended to use filler wire for reduce the under fill.

  • In this paper, the inverter TIG(Tungsten Inert Gas) welding system with high power efficiency by means of pulse current control of welding process is presented. In TIG welding, pulse current control is utilized in order to attain less apatter and high welding performance. The four factors which determine the welding performance of the pulse current are frequency, base current, peak current, and peak current duty current, and peak current duty ratio. In this paper, we analyze these factors should be controlled to achieve minimum power input. To demonstrate the practical significance of our results, we present some experimental results as well as simulation results.

  • Fume extracting welding gun is one of the promising options for reducing the welder's fume exposure. The performance of the gun was assessed on the basis of capture efficiency. Capture efficiencies were measured in a test chamber recommended by American Welding Society. The overall capture efficiency was turned out to be above 95%. But it did not include the effect of crossdraft existing in the real work environment because all experiments were conducted in a closed chamber. It thus needs more work in the future. In addition, the future directions for improving the pres ent commercial techniques of the gun were discussed.

  • This study deals with characterizations of microstructure and wear performance of a cladding layer, product on 1.9 mm-thick mild steel plate by the electric resistance welding, of composite metal powder of Coarse WC-6.5%Co and high carbon alloy (SHA). The cladding layer was examined and tested for microstructural features, chemical composition, hardness, and bondability. The cladding layer have two different matrix were observed by an optical microscope and EPMA. The one was the coarse WC-6.5Co structure. The other was the melted SHA with surrounding the WC-6.5Co structure. The hardness of WC-6.5Co was 1210HV. The hardness of SHA was 640HV.

  • In this study, the deflection and deformation behaviours of IPN80 steel beam and column were investigated under the different industrial loads. Single-sided welds were applied to IPN80 steel beams using shielded metal arc (SMAW) and metal inert gas welding (MIG) method in the form of T-type. After that, the performance of SMAW and MIG welded joints were identified using beam bending test under 500 and 3000 N loads. SMAW and MIG methods were compared with each other to understand the deflection and deformation behaviours of the welded steel structures. Lower deformation and deflection were obtained in MIG welded steel beams. The results show that, steel beams welded MIG method has higher load capacity than SMAW welded ones. MIG welding method is more reliable than the SMAW method for the combining performance and load capacity.

  • In irregular curtain walls, the nominal stress required for each member varies greatly depending on the shape, so it is inefficient to design members based on the maximum required stress. Then, built-up members are absolutely necessary, but built-up members manufactured by Manpower-welding cannot be constructed in an irregular curtain wall building because it' not precise. In order to address the problems, this paper presents why Robotic-laser-welding should be used in irregular curtain walls using Gwanggyo Galleria Department Store involving 3D printing as an example. Results verify the performance of Robot-Laser-Welding as an efficient solution for precise steel curtain wall members.

  • With large specific strength and outstanding corrosion resistance and erosion resistance in sea water, titanium and titanium alloy are widely used in heat exchanger production. In particular, pure titanium demonstrates outstanding molding performance and may be considered optimal for production of heat exchanger. Since titanium is very vulnerable to oxidation and embrittlement during welding, processes with less heat input are widely used, and laser welding is widely applied by considering production performance and shield etc in atmosphere. So far, 1st report and 2nd report compared and analyzed embrittlement degrees by bead colors of weldment through oxygen and nitrogen quantitative analysis and hardness measurement, and evaluated welding performance and mechanical properties of butt welding. This study evaluated field applicability of lap welding to heat exchange plate of LPG re-liquefaction device for ships through tensile stress test, hardness test and internal pressure test etc after deducing optimal weding condition and applying to actual heat exchange plate. In bead overlap area, the experiment produced sound welds with no porosity or defect by increasing and decreasing laser power, and tensile-shear test results indicated virtually the same tension and yield strength as base metal. As a result of measuring hardness at lateral cross section and bead overlap zone of actual heat exchanger welds, hardness difference within 20Hv was produced at base metal, HAZ and weldment, and as a result of pneumatic and hydraulic pressure test, no leakage occurred.

  • Ultrapure ferritic stainless steel provides a new generation of long-span metal roof systems with continuous welding technology, which exhibits many unknown behaviors during wind excitation. This study focuses on the wind-resistant capacity of a new continuous welding stainless steel roof (CWSSR) system. Full-scale testing on the welding joints and the CWSSR system is performed under uniaxial tension and static ultimate wind uplift loadings, respectively. A finite element model is developed with mesh refinement optimization and is further validated with the testing results, which provides a reliable way of investigating the parameter effect on the wind-induced structural responses, namely, the width and thickness of the roof sheeting and welding height. Research results show that the CWSSR system has predominant wind-resistant performance and can bear an ultimate wind uplift loading of 10.4 kPa without observable failures. The welding joints achieve equivalent mechanical behaviors as those of base material is produced with the current of 65 A. Independent structural responses can be found for the roof sheeting of the CWSSR system, and the maximum displacement appears at the middle of the roof sheeting, while the maximum stress appears at the connection supports between the roof sheeting with a significant stress concentration effect. The responses of the CWSSR system are greatly influenced by the width and thickness of the roof sheeting but are less influenced by the welding height.

  • This study presents a treatment of suitable flame retardant through evaluating fire performance after treating flame retardant of fibers for development of welding blanket. The experimental samples used were commercial fibers and we are treated fibers with the flame retardant liquid and the flame retardant paint. The fire performance of the sample was carried out according to the Korea and Japan Standard. As the results of the fire performance experiment, the treated fiber in samples had enough in the performance of flame and fire retardant and the grade of their was from grade A to grade C according to flame and fire retardant standard. The lower oxygen index indicated that all treated samples with the resist are satisfied with international standard. We con-sider that the welding blanket treated with grade A, B and C performance prevents fire spread regardless of the height of work stairs in the case of installation horizontally. Also, it is considered that the welding blanket treated with grade C performance prevents fire spread regardless of the height of work stairs in the case of installation vertically.
