초음파계측에 의한 SPOT용접품질의 비파괴평가 (Nondestructive evaluation of spot weld quality using by ultrasonic measurement)

  • Spot welding has wide used with a high work efficiency in the automotive and aerospace industries. Up to the present, the technique mainly used to test spot welds on production lines has been entirely depended upon destructive chisel or peel testing. Therefore, it's being very important assignment to secure the NDE technique which can be evaluate spot weld quality with more efficiency and high reliability. This paper discusses the feasibility of UNDE techniques to evaluate spot weld quality. For the sake of the approach to the quantitative measurement of nugget diameter and the discrimination of a the corona bond from nugget, ultrasonic c-scan image and distribution of reflective echo amplitude was measured by immersion method with the mechanical and the electronic scanning of point-focussed ultrasonic beam(25 MHz). As the results of this study, corona bond which is the most dangerous types of interface defects can be successfully detected, as well as expulsion and voids. Ultrasonic testing results were confirmed and compared by optical microscope and SAM(Scanning Acoustic Microscope) observation of the spot-weld cross section. The results show that the nugget diameter can be successfully measured with the accuracy of 0.8 mm.

  • The aim of this paper is to present the development of visual seam tracking system equipped with visual range finder. The visual range finder, which consists of a CCD camera and a diode laser system with line generating optics, developed to recognize the types of weld joints and detect the location of weld joints. In practical applications, however, images of the weld joints are often degraded due to spatters, are flares, surface specularity, and welding smoke. To overcome the problem, this paper proposes a syntactic approach which is a class of artificial intelligence techniques. In the approach, the type of weld joint is inferred based upon the production rules which are linguiques grammars consisting of a set of line and junction primitives of laser strip image projected on weld joint. The production rules eliminate several noisy primitives to create new primitives through the merging process of primitives. After the recognition of weld joint, arc welding is started and the location of weld joints is repeatedly detected using a spring model-based template matching in which the template model is a by-product of the recognition process of weld joint. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach a series of experiments-identification and robotic tracking-are conducted for four different types of weld joints.

  • A new approach, to seam tracking for robotic are welding is proposed. In this approach, the weld model is a snapshot image and the acquired image is analyzed and compared to the welding database which contains CAD data, weld positions, weld parameters, etc. This paper presents a fast and robust algorithm for the Hough Transform. This modified Hough Transform(MHT) algorithm uses the least-squares regression analysis method in order to approximate the edge lines more precisely, and leads to a significant reduction in both computation and storage. In comparison with the conventional seam tracking methods, this new approach has the advantages of low cost, continuous welding, and various type welding.

  • In this paper, the coaxial monitoring system to capture image of weld pool was developed in laser-arc hybrid welding. In order to obtain the reliable image, green laser was used as a illumination system and measuring components such as band pass filter, ND (Neutral Density) filter and shutter speed was designed and optimized. Using this monitoring system, weld pool images were captured according to laser power, welding speed, welding current and interspace between laser and arc through the experiment. ANOVA (Analysis of Variation) was carried out to identify the influence of process variables on bead widths extracted from captured images of monitoring system. Welding speed and current were major factor to affect weld pool.

  • A CCD camera with a laser stripe was applied to realize the automatic weld seam tracking in GMAW. It takes relatively long time to process image on-line control using the basic Hough transformation, but it has a tendency of robustness over the noises such as spatter and arc tight. For this reason, it was complemented with adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning specific weld points. The adaptive Hough transformation was used to extract laser stripes and to obtain specific weld points. The 3-dimensional information obtained from the vision system made it possible to generate the weld torch path and to obtain the information such as width and depth of weld line. In this study, a neural network based on the generalized delta rule algorithm was adapted for the process control of GMA, such as welding speed, arc voltage and wire feeding speed.

  • The welding automation in ship manufacturing process,especially in the sub-assembly line is considered to be a difficult job because the welding part is too huge, various, unstructured for a welding robot to weld fully automatically. The weld orocess at the sub-assembly line for ship manufacturing is to joint the various stiffener on the base panel. In order to realize automatic robot weld in sub-assembly line, robot have to equip with the sensing system to recognize the position of the parts. In this research,we developed a vision system to detect the position of base panle for sub-assembly line is shipbuilding process. The vision system is composed of one CCD camera attached on the base of robot, 2-500W halogen lamps for active illumination. In the image processing algorithm,the base panel is represented by two set of lines located at its two corner through hough transform. However, the various noise line caused by highlight,scratches and stiffener,roller in conveyor, and so on is contained in the captured image, this nosie can be eliminated by region segmentation and threshold in hough transform domain. The matching process to recognize the position of weld panel is executed by finding patterns in the Hough transformed domain. The sets of experiments performed in the sub-assembly line show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

용접접합부의 형상계측을 위한 주사형 시각센서의 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on Design of Visual Sensor Using Scanning Beam for Shape Recognition of Weld Joint.)

  • A visual sensor consisted of polygonal mirror, laser, and CCD camera was proposed to measure the distance to the weld joint for recognizing the joint shape. To scan the laser beam of the sensor onto an object, 8-facet polygonal mirror was used as the rotating mirror. By locating the laser and the camera at axi-symmetrical positions around the mirror, the synchronized-scan condition could be satisfied even when the mirror was set to rotate through one direction continuously, which could remove the inertia effect of the conventional oscillating-mirror methods. The mathematical modelling of the proposed sensor with the optical triangulation method made it possible to derive the relation between the position of an image on the camera and the one of a laser light on the object. Through the geometrical simulation of the proposed sensor with the principal of reflection and virtual image, the optical path of a laser light could be predicted. The position and direction of the CCD camera were determined based on the Scheimpflug's condition to fit the focus of any image reflected from an object within the field of view. The results of modelling and simulation revealed that the proposed visual sensor could be used to recognize the weld joint and its vicinity located within the range of the field of view and the resolution.   • Injection molding is a very important industrial process for the manufacturing of plastics objects. During an injection molding process of composites, the fiber-matrix separation and fiber orientation are caused by the flow of molten polymer/fiber mixture. As a result, the product tends to be nonhomogeneous and anisotropic. Hence, it is very important to clarify the relations between separation· orientation and injection molding conditions. So far, there is no research on the measurement of fiber orientation using image processing. In this study, the effects of fiber content ratio and molding condition on the fiber orientation-angle distributions are studied experimentally. Using the image processing method, the fiber orientation distribution of weld-line parts in injection-molded products is assessed. And the effects of fiber content and injection molding conditions on the fiber orientation functions are also discussed

  • A CCD-camera, which is structured with vision system, was used to realize automatic seam-tracking system and 3-D information which is needed to generate torch path, was obtained by using laser-slip beam. To extract laser strip and obtain welding-specific point, Adaptive Hough-transformation was used. Although the basic Hough transformation takes too much time to process image on line, it has a tendency to be robust to the noises as like spatter. For that reson, it was complemented with Adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning a welding-specific point. the dead zone,where the sensing of weld line is impossible, is eliminated by rotating the camera with its rotating axis centered at welding torch. The camera angle is controlled so as to get the minimum image data for the sensing of weld line, hence the image processing time is reduced. The fuzzy controller is adapted to control the camera angle.
