  • This paper proposes a new pattern recognition system combining the new adaptive feature weighting based on the genetic algorithm and the modified KNN(K Nearest-Neighbor) rules. The new feature weighting proposed herein avoids the overfitting and finds the Proper feature weighting value by determining the middle value of weights using GA. New GA operators are introduced to obtain the high performance of the system. Moreover, a class dependent feature weighting strategy is employed. Whilst the classical methods use the same feature space for all classes, the Proposed method uses a different feature space for each class. The KNN rule is modified to estimate the class of test pattern using adaptive feature space. Experiments were performed with the unconstrained handwritten numeral database of Concordia University in Canada to show the performance of the proposed method.

  • Because the geological features of Imha basin are composed of clay and shale layer, much soil particle flows into reservoir in shape of muddy water when it rains a lot. Therefore, turbidity data can be indirect-index to estimate the soil erosion of Imha basin. This study evaluated annual soil erosion using GIS-based soil erosion model and applied rainfall weighting value method by time-series rainfall data to estimate monthly soil erosion. In view of 2003 turbidity data, monthly soil erosion with rainfall weighting value is more efficient than monthly soil erosion with rainfall data.

  • Soil particles from rainfall flow into reservoir and give lots of influence In water quality because the geological conditions and landcover characteristics of imha basin have a weakness against soil loss. Especially, much soil particles induced to reservoir in shape of muddy water when it rains a lot because the geological characteristics of imha reservoir are composed of clay and shale layer. Therefore, field turbidity data can be Indirect-standards to estimate the soil erosion of imha basin. This study evaluated annual soil erosion using GIS-based RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) and developed rainfall weighting value method using time-series rainfall data to estimate monthly soil erosion. In view of field turbidity data(2003 yr), we can find out monthly soil erosion with rainfall weighting value is more efficient than that with monthly rainfall data.

  • As Internet usage has increased, the risk of adolescents being exposed to adult content and harmful information on the Internet has also risen. To help prevent adolescents accessing this content, a novel detection method for adult images is proposed. The proposed method involves three steps. First, the Image Of Interest (IOI) is extracted from the image background. Second, the IOI is distinguished from the segmented image using a novel weighting mask, and it is determined to be acceptable or unacceptable. Finally, the features (color and texture) of the IOI or original image are compared to a critical value; if they exceed that value then the image is deemed to be an adult image. A Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to define this optimal critical value. And, the textural features are identified using a gray level co-occurrence matrix. The proposed method increased the precision level of detection by applying a novel weighting mask and a receiver operating characteristic curve. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, 2850 adult and non-adult images were used for experimentation.

  • This paper proposes a new data hiding method for binary images using the weighting value of pixel-value differencing. The binary cover image is partitioned into non-overlapping sub-blocks and find the most suitable position to embed a secret bit for each sub-block. The proposed method calculates the weighted value for a sub-block to pivot a pixel to be changed. This improves the image quality of the stego-image. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a good visual quality and high capacity.

  • Instance based learning algorithm is the best known lazy learner and has been successfully used in many areas such as pattern analysis, medical analysis, bioinformatics and internet applications. However, its feature weighting scheme is too naive that many other extensions are proposed. Our version of IB3 named as eXtended IBL (XIBL) improves feature weighting scheme by backward stepwise regression and its distance function by VDM family that avoids overestimating discrete valued attributes. Also, XIBL adopts leave-one-out as its noise filtering scheme. Experiments with common artificial domains show that XIBL is better than the original IBL in terms of accuracy and noise tolerance. XIBL is applied to two important applications - intrusion detection and spam mail filtering and the results are promising.

  • This paper indicates deficiencies of existing weighting methods for decision problems that require trading off a selection of one alternative against others. Deficiencies originate from the definition of weight, $W_i$, satisfying that $W_i{\geq}0$ for all i and sums up to one and an assumption of independence between attributes. Thus, existing weighting methods can not handle a situation where all attributes are interrelated, resulting in that attributes can give either positive, or negative, contributions to the value of an alternative. In order to cope with deficiencies, this paper redefines weight and proposes a new causally related weighting method. The proposed method was applied in the study of developing a comprehensive organizational performance measurement system and showed a good performance.

  • This paper compare the performance of CCA (Compact Constellation Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm by effect of the compact slice weighting value for minimization of the intersymbol interference in the communication channel. The CCA combines the conventional DDA and RCA algorithm, it uses the constant modulus of the transmission signal and the considering the output of decision device by the power of compact slice weighting value in order to improving the initial convergence characteristics and the equalization noise by misadjustment in the steady state. In this process, it is confirmed by computer simulation that the compact slice weight affects the performance of CCA adaptive equalization algorithm. The performance index includes the output signal constellation, the residual isi and maximum distortion and MSE that is for the convergence characteristics, the SER according to the signal and noise power ratio at the channel is used. As a result of computer, it shows that the large weighting value gives more good in every performance index. But in SER performance, it is known that the small values gives more good in low SNR and the large values gives more good in high SNR.

  • The inverse method has been used to estimate a surface velocity field from sequential AVHRR/SST data. In the model, equation system was composed of heat equation and horizontal divergence minimization and the velocity field contained in the advective term of the heat equation, which was linearized in grid system, was estimated. A constraint was the minimization of horizontal divergence with weighting factor and introduced to compensate the null space(Menke, 1984) of the velocity solutions for the heat equation. The experiments were carried out to set up the range of weighting factor and the matrix equation was solved by SVD(Singular Value Decomposion). In the experiment, the scales of horizontal temperature gradient and divergence of synthetic velocity field were approximated to those of real field. The neglected diffusive effect and the horizontal variation of heat flux in the heat equation were regarded as random temperature errors. According to the result of experiments, the minimum of relative error was more desirable than the minimum of misfit as the criteria of setting up the weighting factor and the error of estimated velocity field became small when the weighting factor was order of $10^{-1}$

  • In this study, the researcher tried to analyse the effects of various palm angles in sculling on the variation of underwater weighting. An experiment was conducted on the study subjects of 14 males with life guard licences issued by the Korean Red Cross, living in B district with their spontaneous consent after explaining the purpose and method of this study sufficiently. The effects of various angles in sculling on underwater weighting is as follows; The underwater weighting in sculling gradually decreased with the increasing angle of the palm from $0^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}$ during sculling(p<.001). Overall, it is concluded that the optimal efficiency of sculling can be achieved at the angles $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$. But, it is a little limited that we generalize the result drawn from variation of underwater weighting depending on the angles as an actual lift and drag value, which warrants further studies on the measuring of overall swimming movement of rotary kick of our lower body as well as sculling, along with various subjects.
