  • A carbon/epoxy composite drive shaft used for the power transmission of the automobiles with steel joints. Compared with the metallic drive shaft, the composite one has the weight saving of 50% with equivalent torsional strength and fatigue characteristics. In this study, the filament winding technique for the composite tube and composite/metal joining technique are estabilished. The performance test of the drive shaft is carried out. The optimal condition of the surface roughness of the steel adherend was $1.5{{\mu}m}$ to $2.5{{\mu}m}$, and the optimal condition of the bonding thickness was 0.15mm. Maximum torque and torsional stiffness of the composite drive shaft manufactured by filament winding process were found to be $210kg{\cdot}m$ and $18.5kg{\cdot}m/deg$, respectively.

  • Magnesium alloys are being extensively used in weight-saving applications and as a potential replacement for plastics in electronic and computer applications. Magnesium alloy has some good characteristics, EMI shielding property and high specific strength. Nevertheless their high brittleness make it uneasy to process the magnesium. Magnesium alloys are extruded like aluminium alloys. The present work was done to find a characteristic of magnesium alloy(AZ31) changing the extrusion ratio 8.5, 19.1, 49 respectly and changing the die half angle $30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;60^{\circ}$. Here this present done by the hydrostatic extrusion in the hot condition, $310^{\circ}$. The higher the extrusion ratio goes, the higher the extrusion force goes.

  • Recently, the interest in technologies for a highly efficient powertrain, i.e. a variable displacement engine or a light weight car body, to improve the fuel efficiency of automobile saving the environment has been increased. However this trend deteriorates NVH performance of a vehicle and the use of a conventional engine mounting system becomes unsatisfactory. In order to solve this dilemma, an active engine mounting system that could isolate or cancel out vibrations occurred at the powertrain was suggested. In this paper, In order to optimize the electromagnetic active engine mount performance, the actuator of the engine mount through FEM analysis and optimal design, noise and elastomer testing of the prototype through the optimal design of actuators for the electromagnetic active engine mount on the impact of the performance improvement is verified.

  • Recently a number of parts have a tendency to be a module for saving weight, cost, process and high quality in automotive industry. The forming process to combine automotive rack tube which was consisted on many parts is various. This paper presents tube forming process using elasto-forming process. We investigated the properties of rubber and tube by Finite Element Analysis. And it was compared with the experimental results for the formability of tube. we was to suggest a forming process using moving die for elasto-forming process, and through this improvement we could get the good formability.

  • As one way of cost innovation and weight saving of the automobile, the one-piece typed lower control arm was developed for the purpose of replacing the box typed lower control arm. In order to overcome less buckling strength of the one-piece typed lower control arm, the design parameters such as the high strength steel grade, the thickness and the shape of main panel were optimized based on Taguchi method.

  • A hybrid structure composed of magnesium and steel is Instrument Panel structure used for the basement of cockpit module components. For that reason, A hybrid structure has to be designed for satisfying components assembly design facility and styling. There are various models of If like steel structure assembly, however having been applied normally, but magnesium structure assembly selected far saving weight down. This paper introduces a hybrid structure having advantages between steel and magnesium structure and presents a CAE technical solution based on a development project. furthermore, it provides desired direction of the future development is suggested.
