To determine the effects of caloric restriction on obese type 2 diabetes we measured body blood glucose and serum lipid level in dietary restricted Otsuka Long Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats. OLETF rats (obese diabetic rats) and Long Evans Tokushima Otsuka (LETO) rats (control rats) were grouped into 2 groups; control (free feed) group and 30% caloric restricted (30% CR) group. At 24 weeks of age the 30% CR animals were provided a diet at a level of 30% less food (by weight) than control rats consumed during the previous week. Blood glucose levels and serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, and high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol levels of CR rats were determined every 2 weeks for 8 weeks total. Blood glucose, triglyceride and total cholesterol levels of OLETF rats were significantly higher compared to LETO rats. In OLETF rats, the blood glucose levels were decreased to 61% by 8 weeks in the 30% CR compared to the non-CR control group, but changes of blood glucose levels were not observed in LETO rats during the 8weeks in the 30% CR. The serum triglyceride levels of OLETF rats were decreased significantly in the 30% CR but no change in the serum of LETO rats was found. The total cholesterol level was not changed by dietary restriction in LETO rats, but significant changes were observed in OLETF rats by 30% dietary restriction. HDL-cholesterol levels were also increased by dietary restriction in both LETO and OLETF rats. These results suggested that elevated blood glucose, triglyceride and total cholesterol levels in diabetes II patients may be reduced by caloric restriction.

The effect of the nitrogen content of sawdust medium (1.2~1.8%) and the restriction stage temperature (2, 4, and 6℃) on the growth and storage characteristics of Flammulina velutipes (winter mushroom) were investigated. With increased nitrogen content, the growth days shortened and the yield of the fruiting body increased. The effect of restriction temperature on the growth of the fruiting body differed depending on the nitrogen content. No difference in restriction temperature was evident for T1 with a low nitrogen content of 1.28%. In medium with a nitrogen content ≥1.55%, the yield and length of the pileus and stipe increased as the restriction temperature decreased. The weight loss ratio according to the storage period did not change according to the nitrogen content in the medium. A low weight loss ratio of 1.50 to 1.93% was observed at a restriction temperature <4℃. When T3 with high nitrogen content in the medium was treated at a restriction temperature of 4℃, the fruiting body color values after 31 days of storage were 84.81 (L) and 6.3 (ΔE). This color change was minute compared to that after other treatments. The sensory characteristics score was 5.2 after 31 days of storage, and the quality remained acceptable for consumption.
This study was undertaken to invesigate the effect of early nutritional deprivation and environment on neurotransmitter concentrations and behavior in later life. The restoring process of rats fed foods ad libitum after 50% restriction of the casein or the Korean diet during the prenatal and/or the lactating periods was observed. There were two rearing conditions, isolated and enriched, after weaning. Behavioral development was measured by the Y- shaped water maze and the open field test. The neurotransmitters were analyzed after sacrifice at the age of 21 weeks. The results are summarized as follows. 1) The body weight impairment by dietary restriction during the prenatal and lactating periods could be restored within 18 weeks after weaning in case of living in a classical cage. The effect of quantitative restriction was bigger in the Korean diet than in the casein diet. 2) The brain weight was decreased by nutritional deprivation. Environmental enrichment increased it slightly. 3) The concentration of neurotransmitters, norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin, were not shown any traces of the dietary restriction at the age of 21 weeks. 4) In the maze test, the deprived rats made more errors than the nourished and the rats fed the Korean diet more than those fed the cascin dict. The environmental enrichment could decrease the number of errors. 5) In the open field test, the dietary deprived groups showed less reaction time, more squares entered in the field, and less number of fecal boli than the nourished among the environmentally isolated rats. However, rats living in the enriched cage without experience of nutritional stress showed the lowest emotionality and the elevated exploratory activity.
A quantitative restriction of maternal diet was given to the Sprague Dawley rats during the lactation. The control group were fed a commercial diet ad libitum throughout the experimental period. Dietary restriction started from birth to weaning in deficient group. After weaning at 21 days, all offsprings were fed the same diet ad libitum for 4 weeks of rehabilitation. They were analyzed for body weight, muscle protein, muscle 3-methylhistidine and serum protein level of offsprings at 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 weeks. Body weight of offsprings of deficient group were significantly lower than the control group, but after rehabilitation there were no significant differences between two groups. Maternal dietary restriction caused a decrease in the 3-methylhistidine, protein content in muscle and total protein level in serum, and rehabilitation after weaning induced a marked increase. These results suggest that there is a quantitative reduction in 3-methylhistidine metabolism in the undernourished rats and these reductions can be nearly recovered by 4 weeks of dietary rehabilitation after weaning.

In this paper, we propose a new conceptual HVRPCR(Heterogeneous Fleet Vehicle Routing Problem with Customer Restriction) model including additional restrictions that are consisted of loadage limit and possible visit number of demand post in HVRP. We propose HVRPCR algorithm using the heuristic in order to solve speedily because VRP is NP-Hard and need many solution time. The proposed model is simulated with changing demand post location, demand weight, loading and possible visit number limitation. Results of the computational experiment are provided along with some analysis like travel cost reduction rate.
The effects of restricting feed [60% of ad libitum (AL) intake] (FR) or water provided from 0900 h to 1600 h, daily) (WR) or both (FWR) from 14 to 42 days of age on heterophil/lymphocyte (H/L) response and performance in broiler chickens under the hot humid tropical conditions were determined. Feed and/or water limitation retarded growth, but had no adverse effect on overall feed conversion ratio and survivability. The trend for total feed and water consumption was similar to body weight pattern with AL>WR>FR>FWR. The nutritional regimens had significant effect on overall water:feed ratios with FR>(AL=WR)>FWR. Restriction of feed and/or water resulted in marked elevation of H/L ratios. As measured by H/L ratios, the effect of adapting to FR dissipated between 16 to 21 days after the onset of feed restriction. The H/L ratios of WR and FWR birds remained elevated throughout the duration of the experiment.
A thermotolerable restriction endonuclease. Svil, found in Streptomyces violochromogenes D2-5 was purified. For the purification, streptomycin sulfate and ammonium sulfate precipitation was used. Ph osphocellulose P-ll, DEAE-Cellulose and Sephacryl-S200 HR colum chromatography were also performed. The purified enzyme was found to be homogeneous and the molecular weight of the enzyme estimated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis containing 0.1$%$ SDS was about 32, 000 daltons. The recognition sequence and cleavage site of the enzyme were determined to be $5^1$-$TT\downarrow CGAA$-$3^1$ which is the same sequence as that of Asull. Unlike Asull, however, the Svil shows high thermal stability.

To determine the effects of dietary restriction on obese type 2 diabetes we measured body weight, blood glucose and serum lipid level in dietary restricted Otsuka Long Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats. OLETF rats (obese diabetic rats) and LETO rats (control rats) were grouped into 3 groups; control (free feed) group, 20% dietary restricted (20% DR) group and 40% dietary restricted (40% DR) group. Body weight of rats was measured every weeks and the level of glucose, triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and HDL-cholesterol in blood of rats were also determined at 12 weeks after dietary restriction. Body weight of control, 20% DR and 40% DR groups were increased by 41%, 20% and 10%, respectively in LETO rats and by 24%, 10% and -2%, respectively in OLETF rats. Blood glucose level of LETO rats were decreased by 12% on 40% DR compared to control group but the differences between control group and 20% DR group was not observed. The blood glucose level of OLETF rats were decreased by 20% in 40% DR group and by 15% in 20% DR group. The levels of blood triglyceride in 20% DR and 40% DR group were decreased by 20%, 15% in LETO rats and by 37%, 32% in OLETF rats, respectively Total cholesterol revel was not changed by dietary restriction in LETO rats, but significant changes were observed in OLETF rats by both 20% and 40% dietary restriction. HDL-cholesterol levels were also increased by dietary restriction in both LETO and OLETF rats. These results suggested that body weight and blood glucose, serum triglyceride and total cholesterol levels were decreased by dietary restriction and these changes are more susceptive in diabetic rats than non-diabetic animals.
The current study was undertaken to determine the effects of the ratios of dietary fat to carbohydrate and energy restriction on insulin sensitivity in the growing rats. Male rats weighting 80-90g were fed experimental diets for two weeks. Rats were killed and epiddymal adipose tissue were removed and sliced. Explants of adipose tissues were incubated for 2 hours in KRB(Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate) buffer containing various concentrations of human insulin and [U-14C]glucose. Insulin sensitivity was determined as glucose conversion to total lipids (lipogenesis) during 2 hr incubation. Exp't I : Effects of Ratios of Fat to Carbohydrate on Insulin Sensitivity. Eighteen male rats were fed 3 diets for 2 weeks. Diet 1 was low fat-high carbohydrate (4% soybean oil and 66.5% cornstarch) ; diet 2, medium fat-medium sarbohydrate(12% soybean oil and 58.5% cornstarch) ; diet 3, high fat-low carbohydrate (20% soybean oil and 50.5% cornstarch). Insulin sensitivity was higher in the order of LF-HC, MF-HC and HF-LC diet groups (p<0.05), i.e, lipogenesis was higher at all insuline concentration in the explants from rats fed LF-HC diet. However, thers was no significant difference in body weight gain and epididymal adipose tissue weight among treatments. Exp't II ; Effects of Energy Restriction on Insulin Sensitivity. Twelve rats were grouped into ad libitum feeding and restricted feeding(70% of ad libitum). The experimental diet was medium fat-medium carbohydrat diet as used in the Exp't I. Restricted feeding group tended to show higher insulin sensitivity compared to ad libitum group. However, there was no statistical difference between two groups. As expected, body weight gain and epididymal adipose tissue were higher in the ad libitum group. In summary, the resutls of the current study showed that the epididymal adipose tissue taken from the rats fed low fat-high carbohydrate diet showed higher insulin sensitivity compared to those fed high fat-low carbohydrate, and that resticted feeding tended to elevate insulin sensitivity in these tissues.
Eating disorders are psychiatric disorders characterized by abnormal eating patterns and cognitive distortions related to food, weight and shape, which is in turn result in adverse effects on nutrition status, medical complications, and impaired health status and function. The American Psychiatric Association's DSMIVTR offers two diagnoses to describe disordered eating anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. A third category, eating disorder not otherwise specified(EONOS) include binge eating disorder. The prevalence of eating disorder has greatly increased among adolescence and young adults since 1990's when rapid import of western culture took place. It is likely that patients who ask for weight loss are at high risk of having eating disorder. Severe dietary restriction for weight loss may cause eating disorder. Therefore it is recomendable for doctors to have appropriate understanding and guidelines of eating disorder to help their patients.
