A complete form of physical optics solution to the E-polarized diffraction by a composite of conducting and dielectric wedges is obtained by sum ov geometrical optics solution and edge-diffracted field. The diffraction coefficients of the edge-diffracted field are expressed in series of cotangent functions. The electric field patterns of the physical optics solution are plotted in figures.
An experimental study is performed in order to catch the characteristics of the flow field at arrested salt wedge, using a rectangular open channel. Arrested salt wedge is generally so stable that the observations are easy, but velocities and interfacial waves are measured with the aid of visualization method, by injection of fluorescent dyes. The density interface, which is defined as the zone of maximum density variation with depth, exists in about 0.5 cm below the visual interface, and vertical density profile is quite well satisfied with Homeborn model. Interfacial layer has high turbulent intensity and its thickness decreases as the overall Richardson number increases and has magnitude of roughly 17% of upper layer. Cross-sectional velocity distribution just shows the influence of a side-wall friction and in the upper layer vertical velocity profile also becomes uniformly as Reynolds number increases, but in the lower layer it shows nearly parabolic type. Supposes that we divide salt wedge into three domains, that is, river mouth, intermediate and tip zone, entertainment coefficient is small at the intermediate zone and large at the river mouth and the tip zone. River mouth or intermediate zone has comparatively stable interface and capillary wave therefore s produced and propagated downstream. On the other hand, tip zone is very unstable, cusping ripple or bursting ripple is then produced incessantly. Arrested salt wedge form is nearly linear and has no relation to densimetric Froude number and Reynolds number.
An edgetone is the discrete tone or narrow-band sound produced by an oscillating free shear layer, impinging on a rigid surface. In this paper, 2-dimensional edgetone to predict the frequency characteristics of the discrete oscillations of a jet-edge feedback cycle is presented using lattice Boltmznan model with 21 bits, which is introduced a flexible specific heat ratio y to simulate diatomic gases like air. The blown jet is given a parabolic inflow profile for the velocity, and the edges consist of wedges with angle 20 degree (for symmetric wedge) and 23 degree (for inclined wedge), respectively. At a stand-off distance w, the edge is inserted along the centerline of the jet, and a sinuous instability wave with real frequency is assumed to be created in the vicinity of the nozzle exit and to propagate towards the downward. Present results presented have shown in capturing small pressure fluctuating resulting from periodic oscillation of the jet around the edge. The pressure fluctuations propagate with the speed of sound. Their interaction with the wedge produces an irrotational feedback field which, near the nozzle exit, is a periodic transverse flow producing the singularities at the nozzle lips. It is found that, as the numerical example, satisfactory simulation results on the edgetone can be obtained for the complex flow-edge interaction mechanism, demonstrating the capability of the lattice Boltzmann model with flexible specific heat ratio to predict flow-induced noises in the ventilating systems of ship.

Treatment of a large diseased area with electron often requires the use of two or more adjoining fields. In such cases, not only electron beam divergence and lateral scattering but also fields overlapping and separation may lead to significant dose inhomogeneities(${\pm}20%$) at the region of junction of fields. In this study, we made Acrylic Electron Wedges to improve dose inhomogeneities(${\pm}5%$) in these junction areas and to apply it to clinical practices. All measurements were made using 6, 9, 12, 16, 20 MeV Electron beams from a linear accelerator for a $10{\times}10\;cm$ field at 100cm of SSD. Adding a 1 mm sheet of acryl gradually from 1 mm to 15 mm acquires central axis depth dose beam profile and isodose curves in water phantom. As a result, for all energies, the practical range was reduced by approximately the same distance according to the acryl insert, e.g. a 1 mm thick acryl insert reduces the practical range by approximately 1 mm. For every mm thickness of acryl inserted, the beam energy was reduced to approximately 0.2 MeV. These effects were almost Independent of beam energy and field size. The use of Acrylic Electron Wedges produced a small increase(less than 3%) in the surface dose and a small increase(less than 1%) in X-ray contamination. For acryl inserts, thickness of 3 mm or greater, the penumbra width increased nearly linear for all energies and isodose curves near the beam edge were nearly parallel with the incident beam direction at the point of penumbra width($35\;mm{\sim}40\;mm$). We decide heel thickness and angle of the wedge at this point. These data provide the information necessary to design Acrylic Electron Wedge which can be used to improve dose uniformity at electron field junctions and it will be effectively applied to clinical practices.

Eclipse Scripting Application Programming Interface (ESAPI) was devised to enhance the efficiency in such treatment related workflows as contouring, treatment planning, plan quality measure, and data-mining by communicating with the treatment planning system (TPS). It is provided in the form of C# programming based toolbox, which could be modified to fit into the clinical applications. The Scripting program, however, does not offer all potential functionalities that the users intend to develop. The shortcomings can be overcome by combining the Scripting programming with user-executable program on Windows or Linux. The executed program has greater freedom in implementation, which could strengthen the ability and availability of the Scripting on the clinical applications. This work shows the use of the Scripting programming throughout the simple modification of the given toolbox. Besides, it presents the implementation of combining both Scripting and user-executed programming based on MATLAB, applied to automated dynamic MLC wedge and FIF treatment planning procedure for promoting the planning efficiency.
In this study the contralateral breast skin dose was decreased. It was to apply the results to the clinical study after analysis of different radiation dose amounts to contralateral breast with nonmagnetic bolus and without nonmagnetic bolus. A Rando phantom was computed tomography (CT) simulated, five treatment plans were generated: open tangents, open field in field, wedge 15, wedge 30, and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) plan with 50.4 Gy to cover sufficient breast tissue. Contralateral breast skin dose was measured at 8 points using a glass dosimeter. The average contralateral breast dose using nonmagnetic bolus showed better excellence in decreasing the absorbed dose in the order of $168{\pm}11.1$ cGy, $131{\pm}10.2$ cGy (29%), $112{\pm}9.7$ cGy (49%), and $102{\pm}9.5$ cGy (64%) than changing the treatment plan. This study focused on decreasing the effect of scattered dose by use of a nonmagnetic bolus on the contralateral breast during radiotherapy in breast cancer patients and an intriguingly significant decrease was observed parallel to the opposed beam.
The velocity changes of magneto surface acoustic wave (MSAW) have been investigated in the MSAW devices composed of wedge type transducer and as-sputtered ($Fe_{1-x}$$Co_{x}$ )$_{89}$$Zr_{ 11}$ (x=0~1.0)amorphous films on glass substrates. The velocity changes of devices depended sensistively on exciting frequency of MSAW, applying the DC bias magnetic field. film thickness and film composition. Particularly. it was conformed that velocity changes increased with the increase of the exciting frequency of MSAW and the thickness of magnetic films. A device deposited x= 0.8 film along the MSAW propagation direction among the devices exhibited a large velocity change of 0.062% at 8.7 MHz for the applied field of 70 Oe.

In this study, we analyze the problem of wedge cracks, which are geometrically unsymmetrical in transversely piezoelectric materials. A single concentrated antiplane mechanical load and inplane electrical load are applied at the point of the wedge surface, while one concentrated antiplane load is applied at the crack surface. The crack surfaces are considered as permeable thin slits, where both the normal component of electric displacement and the electric potential are assumed to be continuous across these slits. Using Mellin transform method, the problem is formulated and the Wiener-Hopf equation is derived. By solving the equation, the solution is obtained in a closed form. The intensity factors of the stress and the electric displacement are obtained for any crack length as well as inclined and wedge angles. Based on the results, the intensity factors are independent of the applied electric loads. The electric displacement intensity factor is always dependent on that of stress intensity factor, while the electric field intensity factor is zero. In addition, the energy release rate is computed. These solutions can be used as fundamental solutions which can be superposed to arbitrary electromechanical loadings.

Typically, a wedge is involved to generate effectively high inspection angle in pipe weld inspection using phased array ultrasonic technique. But the usage of this wedge for weld or access limited area can cause coverage limitation for the examination volume because of the wedge front length. Therefore, the shear wave phased array probe which can generate high inspection angle without wedge is essentially necessary. In this paper, the shear wave phased array ultrasonic probe which can generate high inspection angle designed by modeling and manufactured from the modelling result. And this shear wave probe tested whether it can detect and sizing for EDM test block that contains various depth. As results, the experimental results show that the designed shear wave phased array probe can detect and size with reliable accuracy. Therefore if this phased array probe apply in field inspection, it is expected that it show more reliable inspection result for plant structure having access limitation.
The evaluation of Varian enhanced dynamic wedges (EDW) were performed in terms of quality assurance in external radiotherapy. The seven (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 60 deg.) EDW angles were evaluated for 6 and 15 MV x-rays in Varian Linac. The STT (segmented treatment table) for a field were calculated and compared with actual movement of the jaw using Dynalog files in order to evaluate mechanical operation. Two dimensional array detector and an ionization chamber were used to measure dose distributions in phantom from Linac. The mechanical movement of jaw was agreed with its expectation and two dimensional dose distributions including beam profiles were in agreement with RTP data approximately. In comparison with RTP calculations the percentage difference of output dose values for 100 MU irradiation was less than 2.9% and measured wedge factor was less than 2.6%. These results are shown that there is no problem in clinical applications of EDW equipped on this linac.
