  • In recent years, use of the web technologies and on-line process has immensely swapped single-user platform practice. This study attempted to develop preliminary cost estimating program by means of Web technologies based on statistical modeling results. A prototype Web-based Preliminary Item-Level Cost Estimating System (WBPILCES) using open source software was developed as an on-line estimating tool in this research. The primary objective is to study the possible flexibility of implementing a centralized information system that will be maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) IT division. The full-scale deployment of proposed information architecture is expected to seamlessly integrate with legacy database system currently used by TxDOT so as to streamline data storage, cost growth tracking and estimates documentation.

  • The major concern of e-learning environment design is to create and improve artifacts that support human learning. To facilitate effective and efficient learning, e-learning environment designers focused on the contemporary information technologies. Web 2.0 services, which empower users and allow the inter-transforming interactions between users and information technologies, have been increasingly changing the way that people learn. By adapting these Web 2.0 technologies in learning environment, educational technology can facilitate learners' abilities to personalize learning environment. The main purpose of this study is to conceptualize comprehensively constructs for understanding the inter-transforming relationships between learner and learning environment and mutable learning environments' impact on the process through which learners learn and strive to shape their learning environment. As results, this study confirms conceptualization of four constructs by incorporating aspects of design that occur in e-learning environments with Web 2.0 technologies. First, learner-designer refers to active and intentional designer who is tailoring an e-learning environment in the changing context of use. Second, learner's secondary design refers to learner's design based on the primary designs by design experts. Third, transactional interaction refers to learner's inter-changeable, inter-transformative, co-evolutionary interaction with technological environment. Fourth, trans-active learning environment refers to mutable learning environment enacted by users.

  • According to the advancement of web related technologies, many works on robots using these technologies, called web-based robots enables sharing of expensive equipments as well as control of remote robots. But none of the existing methods about web-based robots in-clude robot simulators in their web browser, which transfer appropriate information of a remote place to the local users. In this paper, a web-based robot simulator is proposed and developed to control a remote robot by using the web. The proposed simulator can transfer the 3D information about the remote robot to the local users by using 3D graphics, which has not been previously developed. Also, it sends the camera image of a remote place to the local users so that the users can use this camera image as well as 3D information in order to control the remote robot.

  • It is certain that the future manufacturing environment will be network-centric and spatially distributed based on Internet. Today, wide variety of distributed computing and communication technologies are available for implementing a system for product data exchange and sharing. One of the technologies that have been received most attentions for product data exchange and sharing is Product Data Management (PDM). PDM tries to integrate and manage process of data and technical documents that are connected to physical product components. In accordance to previous researches about PDM, it can be regarded as an integration tool of many different areas, which ensures that the right information is available to the right person at the right time and in the right form throughout the enterprise. PDM with Web-enabled CAD system is proposed in this paper in order to acknowledge the usefulness of the system mentioned. The system will use Web service on Visual Studio C#.Net to invoke the web application system.

  • This study examined that the assimilated web technologies can contribute to IS(information system) success. Through hierarchical regression analysis, the following findings are identified. First, top management championship, strategic investment rationale, and computer use and access affected web technology assimilation, and then web technology assimilation influenced on IS development success positively. Second, top management championship had more influence than other independent variables in strategies dimension of web technologies assimilation while strategic investment rationale did in activities dimension. Third, the strategies assimilation was more dominant than the activities assimilation for IS success. Thus it is concluded that IT including web technologies brings organizations a powerful business tool and high profit.

  • The feature models representing the common and variable concepts among the software products and the feature configurations generated by selecting the features to be included in the target product are the essential components in the software product lines methodology. Although the researches on the formal semantics and reasoning of the feature models and feature configurations are in progress, the researches on feature model ontologies and feature configuration validation using the semantic web technologies are yet insufficient. This paper defines the formal semantics of the feature models and proposes a feature configuration validation technique based on ontology and semantic web technologies. OWL(Web Ontology Language), a semantic web standard language, is used to represent the knowledge in the feature models and the feature configurations. SWRL(Semantic Web Rule Language), a semantic web rule languages, is used to define the rules to validate the feature configurations. The approach in this paper provides the formal semantic of the feature models, automates the validation of feature configurations, and enables the application of various semantic web technologies, such as SQWRL.

  • The exponential growth of information on the web far exceeds the capacity of present day information retrieval systems and search engines, making information integration on the web difficult. In order to overcome this, semantic web technologies were proposed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to achieve a higher degree of automation and precision in information retrieval systems. Semantic web, with its promise to deliver machine understanding to the traditional web, has attracted a significant amount of research from academia as well as from industries. Semantic web is an extension of the current web in which data can be shared and reused across the internet. RDF and ontology are two essential components of the semantic web architecture which support a common framework for data storage and representation of data semantics, respectively. Ontologies being the backbone of semantic web applications, it is more relevant to study various approaches in their application, usage, and integration into web services. In this article, an effort has been made to review the research work being undertaken in the area of design and development of ontology supported information systems. This paper also briefly explains the emerging semantic web technologies and standards.
