The mean temperature equation is a key factor in calculating GPS meteorological information. A local mean temperature equation should be used to improve accuracy of GPS PWV (Precipitable Water Vapor). In this paper, four local mean temperature equations, HP, $HP_M,\;HPt_Y,\;and\;HPt_M$ from Ha & Park (2008) were used to analyze the effects of local models in determining GPS PWV. Four different sets of GPS PWVs were compared with radiosonde PWV to validate the accuracies of local models. GPS PWVs of four local models have similar trends compared against radiosonde PWV. The bias and RMS error were the same level: the bias is ${\sim}3mm$ and the RMS is ${\sim}3.6mm$ after the bias was removed. Especially, with $HPt_Y\;and\;HPt_M$ models one can obtain accurate PWVs even without surface temperature measurements. And we investigated dry bias of radiosonde measurements depending on sensor types and observation time at Sokcho weather station. After the radiosonde sensor equipment was changed from RS80-15L to GRS DFM-06, dry bias of radiosonde PWV decreased about 18.2% during daytime (KST 09:00), and 16.1% during nighttime (KST 21:00).

The objective of this study is to assess the capability of meteorological technology in Korea, the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom as of 2015 and compare them with the previous values for Korea, the United States, and Japan. For the comparison, the indicators and weights for the assessment similar to those used in previous studies are used and Gordon's rating model is applied here to evaluate the indicators and conduct a survey of weather experts. The survey was administered to 200 of experts in meteorology using the Delphi method. More specifically, we investigate four categories of observation, data processing, forecast, and climate. The overall results show that the United Kingdom has the highest capability of meteorological technology among the four countries. With the result of indicator evaluation on this study the United Kingdom has the highest capability of meteorological technologies compared with Korea, the United States, and Japan. The capability of meteorological technology in Korea is 88.5% of the United Kingdom, 89.9% of Japan, and 90.6% of the United States. The countries in order of score on survey evaluation are the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Korea. Through the result of survey evaluation, the level of meteorological technology in Korea was 88.9% of the United States, 91.6% of the United Kingdom, and 92.2% of Japan.

Wave field measurements were made over a period of 18 days to study the spatial distribution of incident wave on seaweed tarm field around Gumil-up Sea, Wando, Korea. These measured data were compared with data from the Geomun-do ocean weather/wave observation buoy. A numerical simulation model that combined the offshore design wave with the seasonal normal incoming wave was used to study the incident wave distribution surrounding a seaweed farm. The results are summarized as follows. (1) On-site wave measurements showed that the major relationship between maximum and significant wave height was $H_{max}=1.6H_{1/3}$. (2) Offshore incident wave energy reaching the coast was greatly influenced by the wind direction. A north wind reduced the incident wave energy and a south wind increased it. (3) The calculated maximum wave height under the design wave boundany conditions was in the range of 4~5 m and the reduction in the incident wave height ratio ranged from approximately 38.1% to 47.6% at Gumil-up Sea. Under normal wave conditions, the maximum wave heights were 3.6~4.0 m in summer and 2.3~2.7 m in winter while the reduction in the incident wave height ratio was about 41.8% to 49.1%. (4) The sea state in the southern area of Gumil-up was the most affected by ocean waves, whereas the sea state in the northern area was very stable. The significant wave ratio in the south was about six times that in the north.

This study is to evaluate the accuracy improvement of the model using SWAT(Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model and multi - point hydrological observation data. The watershed is located in the Yongdam Dam($930.4km^2$), the Donghyang($165.5km^2$), the Chuncheon($290.9km^2$), the Juchun($57.8km^2$) and the Seokjeong($80.5km^2$). The watershed covers 70.0 % forest. In order to improve the accuracy of the model, precipitation data were used from two weather stations(Jangsu, Geumsan) and 16 AWS stations daily precipitation data(2003~2011) managed by KMA, MLIT, and K-water. Based on the reliable data of the Yongam test basin in 2003~2011, the runoff of single point (Yongdam dam) and multi-point (Donghyang, Chuncheon, Jucheon, Seokjeong). Simulation results show that the $R^2$ of the single subwatershed (Donghyang, Chuncheon, Jucheon, Seokjeong) is single point(0.84) and multipoint(0.88). For model efficiency coefficient of Nash-Sutcliffe at single point(0.45) and multipoint(0.70).

In recent years, the damage scales of water disasters such as typhoons, tsunamis, and heavy snow have been increasing globally as a result of global warming and climate changes. In particular, the economic loss caused by typhoons has been increasing for overpopulated areas that have undergone economic development and urbanization since the 1960s. In this study, we investigated and analyzed satellite images captured before and after typhoons on the Korean peninsula, including Typhoon Chaba (2016), Typhoon Rusa ('02), and Typhoon Maemi ('03). There was a limitation in utilizing existing satellites. Domestic satellites have mostly been developed and operated for the observation of the weather, ocean, and topography, as well as for use in communication. There are therefore insufficient temporal and spatial observations for water management and disaster response. In this work, we expanded the scope to overseas satellites and collected data from GMS, TRMM, COMS, and GPM. In the future, it will be necessary to develop and launch water resources satellites that can provide sufficient temporal and spatial data analysis units to obtain rapid and accurate water hazard information for the Korean peninsula.
This study was undertaken to find out the causal perception of rheumatoid arthritis patients, and to understand the typology. The Q-population consisted of 236 statements of causal perception were collected. Thirty eight Q-samples of causal perception were selected. The P-sample for this study were made up of 28 first visiting female rheumatoid arthritis patients from a rheumatoid arthritis specialty hospital. Each respondent responded Q-set of causal perception according to 9-point scale. The result of Q-sorting were coded and analyzed using QUANL PC program. 1) Typological Observation on Causal Perception (1) Physical Fatigue Type : Type 1 perceived that the illness occurred due to excessive work requiring physical labor or strain that had occurred from not resting after excessive physical labor, therefore, thinking the origin of the illness was from physical strain. (2) Physical origin Type : Type 2 perceived that the major cause for the illness is not only excessive physical labour but also fecundity and old age. (3) Causality to Environment Type : Type 3 perceived that rheumatoid arthritis occurred from injury to the joints or bad and humid weather. (4) Conscience of Guilty Type : Type 4 consisted of people with guilty conscience for lack of religious commitment. They perceived that the illness was a punishment from God for not praying or because of bad luck. (5) Rationally Perceiving Type : People who belong in type 5 perceived the cause of illness in light of scientific facts such as genetics, unbalanced diet or lack of exercise. (6) Psychological Stress Type : People who belong in type 6 believed that excessive stress was the cause of the illness. 2) Emotions of Rheumatoid arthritis patients Rheumatoid arthritis patients' positive emotions included determination, courage, coping, acceptance, hope, and adoption ; and their negative emotions were prostration, worry, stupor, conflicts, grievance, giving-up, resignation, depression, loss, solitariness, fear, anxiety, avoidance, anger and loneliness. Rheumatoid arthritis patients experience different level of emotions from their suffering experience from the severe pains. Rheumatoid arthritis patients also experience negative emotions when they could not perform self-care and lose their self-esteem from painful suffering ; however, they regain positive emotions when they recover from pain with the use of drugs, physical therapy or exercise. Their emotional states are closely connected to level of and presence of pain.
This study investigates the characteristics of cloud top brightness temperature (CTBT) of WV and IR1 from MTSAT-1R when lightning strikes in South Korea. For temporal and spatial collocations, lightnings, occurred only within ${\pm}5$ minutes from the six minutes added official satellite observation time (e.g., not 0600 UTC but 0606 UTC, considering the real scan time over South Korea), were selected. And the CTBTs corresponding to lightning spots were determined using the nearest pixel within 5 km. The brightness temperature difference (BTD, defined as WV - IR1) between two channels is negatively large when no lightning occurrs, whereas it increases up to positive values (sometimes, +5 K) and the largest frequency distributes around 225 K and 205 K in lightning cases. The probablistic approach for lightning frequency forecast, presented by Machado et al. (2008) in Southern America, was applied over South Korea and new exponential equations, with high coefficients of determination around 0.95 to 0.99, were developed using two channels' BTDs when lightning strikes. Moreover, a case study on 10th June, 2006, the largest number of lightning occurred between 2002 and 2006, was made. The major finding is that lightning activity is closely related to the dramatic decreases in BT and the increases in BTD (esp., equal to or larger than 0 K). Lightning frequency increases exponentially when BTD increases up to 0 K. Therefore, lightning forecast skill will be improved when the integrated strategy (synoptic background and satellite-based CTBT and BTD) is applied. It is believed that this study contributes to the application of the Korean first geostationary satellite (COMS), scheduled to launch at the end of this year, to severe weather detections.

Using the meteorological data, surface weather map, and oceanographic data for 5 years(1984-1988). I investigated the characteristics of the fog occurrence and the role of the inshore in Pusan about the fog occurrence. And the meteorological data and sea surface temperature(SST), which were observed in July, 1989 in Suyoung Bay, were compared with those in Pusan. The fogs in Pusan concentrate in May, June and July. And at fog occurrence time the principal wind directions are Southwest(SW) winds, which easily supply with water vapor, and a series of Northeast(NE) wind. At the fog days pressure patterns are pattern 7 in spring time (March, April, and May) and pattern 10 and pattern 13 in summer time (June, July, and August). Also the advection fog(sea fog) is closely related with the relationship between warm and cold advection in 850~700mb and cold and warm SST rather than the increase of the instability of atmosphere in 850~500mb. The fogs in Taegu, which is the inland region, mainly occur at dawn in fall time due to the strong night radiation fog. On the other hand in Pusan the coastal region, the fogs occur from late spring time to summer time (May, June, and July). Because there is the abundant supply of the water vapor from the ocean owing to a series of South(S) wind at this time. Then the atmosphere, which has high relative humidity, reaches easily the supersaturation by the radiation cooling. In Suyoung Bay and Pusan the meteorological observation data, SST and fog days are almost similar. And I think that the mechanism of the fog occurrence nearly accords with both regions.
In this study, the future expected discharges are analyzed for Daecheong and Yongdam Dam Watershed in Geum River watershed using A1B scenario based RCM with 27 km spatial resolutions from Korea Meteorological Agency and SWAT model. The direct use of GCM and RCM data for water resources impact assessment is practically hard because the spatial and temporal scales are different. In this study, the problems of spatial and temporal scales were settled by the spatial and temporal downscaling from watershed scale to weather station scale and from monthly to daily of RCM grid data. To generate the detailed hydrologic scenarios of the watershed scale, the multi-site non-stationary downscaling method was used to examine the fluctuations of rainfall events according to the future climate change with considerations of non-stationary. The similarity between simulation and observation results of inflows and discharges at the Yongdam Dam and Daecheong Dam was respectively 90.1% and 84.3% which shows a good agreement with observed data using SWAT model from 2001 to 2006. The analysis period of climate change was selected for 80 years from 2011 to 2090 and the discharges are increased 6% in periods of 2011~2030. The seasonal patterns of discharges will be different from the present precipitation patterns because the simulated discharge of summer was decreased and the discharge of fall was increased.

The increase in the area of impervious water due to the recent abnormal weather conditions and rapid urbanization led to a decrease in the amount of low current, resulting in an increase in the amount of surface runoff. Increased surface runoff is causing erosion, destruction of underwater ecosystems, human and property damage in urban areas due to flooding of urban river. The damage has been increasing in Korea recently due to localized heavy rains, typhoons and floods. As a countermeasure, the Busan Metropolitan Government will proceed with the creation of the Eco-Delta City waterfront zone in Busan with the aim of creating a future-oriented waterfront city from 2012 to 2023. Therefore, the current urban river conditions and precipitation data were collected by utilizing SWMM developed by the Environment Protection Agency, and the target basin was selected to simulate flood damage. Measures to reduce flood damage in various cases were proposed using simulated data. It is a method to establish a disaster prevention plan for each case by establishing scenario for measures to reduce flood damage. Considering structural and non-structural measures by performing an analysis of the drainage door with a 30-year frequency of 80 minutes duration, the expansion effect of the drainage pump station is considered to be greater than that of the expansion of the drainage door, and 8 scenarios and corresponding alternatives were planned in combination with the pre-excluding method, which is a non-structural disaster prevention measure. As a result of the evaluation of each alternative, it was determined that 100㎥/s of the pump station expansion and the pre-excluding EL.(-)1.5m were the best alternatives.
