In this study, we propose a wearable force sensor using 3D printed mold and liquid metal. Liquid metal, such as Galinstan, is one of the promising functional materials in stretchable electronics known for its intrinsic mechanical and electronic properties. The proposed soft force sensor measures the external force by the resistance change caused by the cross-sectional area change. Fused deposition modeling-based 3D printing is a simple and cost-effective fabrication of resilient elastomers using liquid metal. Using a 3D printed microchannel mold, 3D multichannel Galinstan microchannels were fabricated with a serpentine structure for signal stability because it is important to maintain the sensitivity of the sensor even in various mechanical deformations. We performed various electro-mechanical tests for performance characterization and verified the signal stability while stretching and bending. The proposed sensor exhibited good signal stability under 100% longitudinal strain, and the resistance change ranged within 5% of the initial value. We attached the proposed sensor on the finger joint and evaluated the signal change during various finger movements and the application of external forces.

Recently, many electronic devices have been integrated with various kinds of wireless sensor network technologies that have been enabled with wireless network connections. These wireless sensor network devices have adopted various kinds of wireless network technologies. On the other hand, because each wireless network technology has its advantages and disadvantages, the target and purposes should be considered carefully at the beginning of the development. In particular, the approach to the magnetic sensor should be considered carefully because it has its own characteristic compared to general sensors. The magnetic field generates nonlinear data. This paper introduces the design aspects to reflect low cost and wearable devices to use in a wireless sensor network. In addition, this paper addresses how to select proper sensor network technology. As a result, wireless sensor network devices were integrated using Zigbee and showed the performance of the throughput.
This study aimed to develop a smart wearable device for assessing the risk angle associated with turtle neck syndrome in patients with Video Display Terminal (VDT) syndrome. Turtle neck syndrome, characterized by forward head posture resulting from upper cross syndrome, leads to thoracic kyphosis. In this research, a stretch sensor was used to monitor the progression of turtle neck syndrome, and the sensor data was analyzed using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and the Gauge Factor (GF) calculation method. The scapula and cervical spine angles were measured at five stages, with 15-degree increments from 0° to 60°. During the experimental process, the stretch sensor was attached to the thoracic spine in three different lengths: 30mm, 50mm, and 100mm. Among these, the attachment method yielding the most reliable data was determined by measuring with three techniques (General Trim Adhesive, PU film, and Heat Transfer Machine), and clothing using the heat transfer machine was selected. The experimental results confirmed that the most significant change in thoracic kyphosis occurred at approximately 30° of forward head posture. Prolonged deformity can lead to various issues, highlighting the need for textile sensor solutions. The developed wearable device aims to provide users with real-time feedback on their turtle neck posture and incorporate features that can help prevent or improve the condition.

In this paper, we propose a Mixed Reality based rehabilitation exercise solution with the goal of mitigating one of the most common chronic conditions among the elderly, musculoskeletal disorders. In modern society, as the number of elderly increases, more people engage in office work and engage in more sedentary activities. Due to repetitive work in the office, muscle strength decreases and this causes many difficulties in daily life. In this study, we developed a mixed reality based exercise platform to solve these chronic musculoskeletal diseases. VR is not appropriate for elderly because of dizziness. In addition, we developed a wearable sensor based on IMU and attached it to important parts of the upper body to motion tracking. We developed a algorithm synchronize to raw data from wearable sensor with in a vr avatar. Ederly can check in real time whether rehabilitation exercises are being performed accurately through the avatar.
This study aimed to produce fiber stretch sensors for smart soccer socks to prevent injuries during training. A sensor was manufactured with stretchable fabric and tested to ensure convenience during training. In order to manufacture the fiber stretch sensor, a CNT dispersion solution was applied to an e-band and elastic polyester fabric, and the performance of the sensors was evaluated by a tensile test. Performance evaluation showed that both of the tested fabrics are excellent for this purpose. Both sensors were attached to socks to create prototype wearable devices, and an experiment was conducted to determine whether a resistance change accompanying relaxation and contraction of the gastrocnemius muscle could be detected. In order to accurately evaluate performance as a sensor, the fabric was stretched 20 times at low speeds of 1 Hz and 0.5 Hz. A change in resistance due to tension was observed, with both the E-band and the stretchable poly fabric showing high sensitivity and high reproducibility. Both can be used as relaxation/contraction sensors. Smart soccer socks were made using the two materials, and an evaluation was conducted. Tensile tests were done on the smart soccer socks; the tests were done 20 times per sock, and the sensor showed a stable resistance change between 30 and 40 ohms depending on the tension of the sensor. As a result, we confirmed that smart soccer socks with stretch sensors made of E-bands can measure changes in the gastrocnemius muscle.
The recent emergence of smart phones, wearable devices, and even the IoT concept made it possible for various objects to interact one another anytime and anywhere. Among many of such smart services, a smart home service typically requires a large number of sensors to recognize the residents' activities. For this reason, the ideas on activity recognition using the data obtained from those sensors are actively discussed and studied these days. Furthermore, plenty of sensors are installed in order to recognize activities and analyze their patterns via data mining techniques. However, if many of these sensors should be installed for IoT smart home service, it raises the issue of cost and energy consumption. In this paper, we proposed a new method for reducing the number of sensors for activity recognition in a smart environment, which utilizes the principal component analysis and clustering techniques, and also show the effect of improvement in terms of the activity recognition by the proposed method.

Stretchable strain sensors have been developed for potential future applications including wearable devices and health monitoring. For practical implementation of stretchable strain sensors, their stability and repeatability are one of the important aspects to be considered. In this work, we utilized 3D printed polymer structures having kirigami patterns to improve the stretchability and reduce the hysteresis. The polymer structures were coated with graphene/carbon nanofiber hybrids to make a robust electrical network. The stretchable strain sensors showed a high gauge of 36 at a strain of 32%. Because of the kirigami structures and the robust graphene/carbon nanofiber coating, the sensors also exhibited stable resistance responses at various strains ranging from 1% to 30%.
Smart textile industries have been precipitously developed and extended to electronic textiles and wearable devices in recent years. In particular, owing to an increasingly aging society, the elderly healthcare field has been highlighted in the smart device industries, and pressure sensors can be utilized in various elderly healthcare products such as flooring, mattress, and vital-sign measuring devices. Furthermore, elderly healthcare products need to be more lightweight and flexible. To fulfill those needs, textile-based pressure sensors is considered to be an attractive solution. In this research, to apply a textile to the second layer using a pressure sensing device, a novel type of conductive textile was fabricated using vapor phase polymerization of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). Vapor phase polymerization is suitable for preparing the conductive textile because the reaction can be controlled simply under various conditions and does not need high-temperature processing. The morphology of the obtained PEDOT-conductive textile was observed through the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM). Moreover, the resistance was measured using an ohmmeter and was confirmed to be adjustable to various resistance ranges depending on the concentration of the oxidant solution and polymerization conditions. A 3-layer 81-point multi-pressure sensor was fabricated using the PEDOT-conductive textile prepared herein. A 3D-viewer program was developed to evaluate the sensitivity and multi-pressure recognition of the textile-based multi-pressure sensor. Finally, we confirmed the possibility that PEDOT-conductive textiles could be utilized by pressure sensors.

As many types of magnetic sensors are widely applied in various industries, the analysis and processing of magnetic sensor data need to be accurate. On the other hand, owing to the complexity of the magnetic field line caused by a moving magnet, the magnetic data generated by magnetic sensors are unpredictably nonlinear. Many industry systems using magnetic sensors have struggled with the nonlinear nature of magnetic sensor data. To reduce the effect of the nonlinearity, they have the target objects fixed firmly. Therefore, to collect accurate and reliable data, considerable efforts have been made to resolve the issues with the expensive tools and systems required. Through this paper, to tackle the issues, the data analysis and methodologies, including intelligent algorithms, are presented for the wrist rehabilitation system using magnetic sensors while being implemented without using expensive tools or systems. On processing magnetic sensor data, this paper adopted an intelligent algorithm, fuzzy logic, and compared the performance of other algorithms for comparison.
