  • The optical wave interactions in a sinusoidally corrugated dielectric waveguide are analyzed for the oblique incidence case. The coupled mode equations which govern the interactions are derived by the singular perturbation method for the TE-TE mode coupling. The results are compared with those of normal mode analysis by Wagatsuma et al. and total field analysis by Stegeman et al. Phase mismatching effects on the diffraction efficiency are also investigated.

  • Increasing the total length of waveguide-below-cutoff array(WBCA) as it is used to the duct in order to enhance shielding effectiveness, the design could cause higher cost, higher levels of difficulties in construction and the interruption a flow velocity. The multi-layered WBCA can compensate for this problem, which can be designed by crossing each waveguide layer. By conducting simulations from 2-layer to 8-layer structure, it can be observed that the shielding effectiveness increases from 52 dB to 75 dB. Comparing with the original WBCA in a shape of mono layer rectangular, our proposed waveguide becomes similar with the original value as the number of crossing layer increases. In addition, the analysis with the flow of fluid in the duct installed multi-layered WBCA are required. We demonstrate this analysis by doing the flow of fluid simulation, and concluded that the multi-layered WBCA has loss of flow of fluid less than unit rectangular WBCA.

  • A finite-element method is used to analyze loss generation and electromagnetic noise absorption characteristics of a coplanar waveguide transmission line integrated with a magnetic thin film. Parameters used in the analysis are the electrical resistivity of the magnetic layer and the thickness of both magnetic and insulating layers. The results indicate that L-C resonance is the main loss mechanism of the electromagnetic noise absorption.

  • A new method is proposed for the analysis of optical properties of stationary transverse electirc (TE) nonlinear waves in the five-layer waveguide which consists of a linear guiding layer with two nonlinear bounding layers sandwiched between a semi-infinite clad and a substrate. By using the relation of the interface electric fields, we obtain the generalized form of nonlinear dispersion equations as an analytic and flexible form. In order to verify the dispersion equation, we apply the dispersion equation to the analysis of the symmetric five-layer waveguide. The nonlinear dispersion curves for several thicknesses of the nonlinear thin film is also presented.

  • This paper investigated the destruction effect of the semiconductors by impact of high power electromagnetic wave. The experiments is employed as an open-ended waveguide to study the destruction effects on semiconductor using a 2.45 GHz 600 W Magnetron as a high power electromagnetic wave. The semiconductors are located at a distance of $31cm\sim40cm$ from the open-ended waveguide and are composed of a LED drive circuit for visual discernment. Also the chip condition of semiconductor is observed by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) analysis. The semiconductor are damaged by high power electromagnetic wave at about 860 V/m. The SEM analysis of the destructed devices showed onchipwire and bondwire destructions. Based on the result, semiconductor devices should have plan to protect the semiconductor devices form high power electromagnetic wave. And the database from this experiment provides the basis for future investigation.

  • The eigenvalue equations of multiple waveguides with step-index profile are derived by using the WKB theory. Phase changes unique to step-index discontinuity areintroduced when applying the WKB connection formula to turning points. The transfer matrix method is employed for the analysis of multiple structure and the derived eigenvalue equation are represented in the recursive form. The results by the WKB are compared with those by the FEM for a three-waveguide coupler.

  • Propagation constants for TMon and TEon modes in a circular waveguide with a ring type dielectri are computed using the numerical analysis when the width of dielectric is varied regularly. This structure can be applied to the supporter to make improve the Q-factor of dielectric resonators, and the results of numerical calculation can be used to design the slow wave structures. Also, the numerical analysis in this paper can be used to determine the resonant frequencies in dielectric resonators.

  • This paper presents basis functions for curvilinear square elements and describes finite element analysis for coaxial cable and coaxial cross-section waveguide. On the case of coaxial cable, the more exact results is obtained by the propotional elements than by the equal elements with the same number of elements. It is found that the cutoff frequency of coaxial cross-sectional waveguide is more dependent on the inner and outer radius than the cross-sectional angle.

  • An exact wave-optics analysis of wave propagation in thin-film optical waveguide using gyrotropic materials as the substrate or film of the guide is presented for the first time. Based on the Maxwell's equations and the boundary conditions of the guide, the field composition and the boundary conditions of the guide, the field composition and the phase velocity for the eigenmodes of the guide are determined. The field patterns of the guided waves are shown for the eigenmodes of the guides. The present analysos allows a new interpretation in the mode conversion of the thin-film optical waveguides.

  • The optimization of the specifications of vertical silicon on insulator (SOI) slot optical waveguides suitable for integrated-optical biochemical sensors was performed through computational analysis of the confinement factor of the guided mode distributed in the slot in addition to analytical examination of the TE mode. The optimized specifications were confirmed based on sensitivity in terms of the change in the refractive index of the biochemical analyte. When the slot width, rail width, and height were set to 120 nm, 200 nm, and 320 nm, respectively, the confinement factor was evaluated to be about 56% and the sensitivity was at least 0.9 [RIU/nm].
