This paper describes the possibility of human physiological data, especially brain-wave activity, to detect cognitive overload, a phenomenon that may occur while learner uses an e-learning system. If it is found that cognitive overload to be detectable, providing appropriate feedback to learners may be possible. To illustrate the possibility, while engaging in cognitive activities, cognitive load levels were measured by EEG (electroencephalogram) to seek detection of cognitive overload. The task given to learner was a computerized listening and recall test designed to measure working memory capacity, and the test had four progressively increasing degrees of difficulty. Eight male, right-handed, university students were asked to answer 4 sets of tests and each test took from 61 seconds to 198 seconds. A correction ratio was then calculated and EEG results analyzed. The correction ratio of listening and recall tests were 84.5%, 90.6%, 62.5% and 56.3% respectively, and the degree of difficulty had statistical significance. The data highlighted learner cognitive overload on test level of 3 and 4, the higher level tests. Second, the SEF-95% value was greater on test3 and 4 than on tests 1 and 2 indicating that tests 3 and 4 imposed greater cognitive load on participants. Third, the relative power of EEG gamma wave rapidly increased on the 3rd and $4^{th}$ test, and signals from channel F3, F4, C4, F7, and F8 showed statistically significance. These five channels are surrounding the brain's Broca area, and from a brain mapping analysis it was found that F8, right-half of the brain area, was activated relative to the degree of difficulty. Lastly, cross relation analysis showed greater increasing in synchronization at test3 and $4^{th}$ at test1 and 2. From these findings, it is possible to measure brain cognitive load level and cognitive over load via brain activity, which may provide atimely feedback scheme for e-learning systems.
The standard penetration test (SPT) has been widely used because of its usability, economy, and many correlations with soil properties among other factors. In SPT, hammer energy is an important factor to evaluate and calibrate N values. To measure hammer energy, an instrumented SPT rod was developed considering that stress waves transferring on rods during SPT driving are the same as stress waves transferring on piles due to pile driving. Using this idea, an instrumented SPT rod with a pile driving analyzer was applied as a pile capacity prediction tool in this study. In order to evaluate this method, SPT and dynamic cone tests with the instrumented SPT rod were conducted and also 2 pile load tests were performed on pre-bored steel pipe piles at the same test site. End bearings were predicted by CAPWAP analysis on force and velocity waves from dynamic cone penetration tests and SPT. Comparing these predicted end bearings with static pile load tests, a new prediction method of the end bearing capacity using the instrumented SPT rod was proposed.
Recently, as earthquakes have occurred in Gyeongju, interest in the stability of structures against vibration from earthquakes has increased. In Korea, the capacity of load resistance is mainly considered in the design of anchors. However, the vibration resistance characteristics of anchors have not been fully elucidated. The traditional type of anchor, which is a frictional resistance anchor, is often reported to fail due to vibration in construction procedures, such as blasting. The expansion type of anchor, on the other hand, could have more resistance to vibration but its capability of demonstrating vibratory resistance has to be investigated. In order to verify the vibratory resistance characteristics of expansion anchors against blasting and earthquake vibration, field tests and numerical analyses for seismic wave were performed. Field blasting test results show that the expansion anchor has better capability against vibratory load than does the frictional type anchor. Numerical analysis to earthquake also show that the expansion type anchor provides more resistance than does the frictional type anchor.
Jacket-type offshore structures are always exposed to severe environmental conditions such as salt, high speed of current, wave, and wind compared with other onshore structures. In spite of the importance of maintaining the structural integrity for an offshore structure, there are few cases to apply a structural health monitoring (SHM) system in practice. The impedance-based SHM is a kind of local SHM techniques and to date, numerous techniques and algorithms have been proposed for local SHM of real-scale structures. However, it still requires a significant challenge for practical applications to compensate unknown environmental effects and to extract only damage features from impedance signals. In this study, the impedance-based SHM was carried out on a 1/20-scaled model of an Uldolmok current power plant structure in Korea under changes in temperature and transverse loadings. Principal component analysis (PCA)-based approach was applied with a conventional damage index to eliminate environmental changes by removing principal components sensitive to them. Experimental results showed that the proposed approach is an effective tool for long-term SHM under significant environmental changes.

The high costs of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and installation are currently a stumbling block to the proliferation of electric vehicles (EVs). The cost-effective solutions are needed to support the expansion of charging infrastructure. In this paper, we develope EV charging system based on the big data analysis of the power consumption patterns. The developed EV charging system is consisted of the smart EV outlet, gateways, powergates, the big data management system, and mobile applications. The smart EV outlet is designed to low costs of equipment and installation by replacing the existing 220V outlet. We can connect the smart EV outlet to household appliances. Z-wave technology is used in the smart EV outlet to provide the EV power usage to users using Apps. The smart EV outlet provides 220V EV charging and therefore, we can restore vehicle driving range during overnight and work hours.

Steam jets ejected from a rupture zone of high energy pipes may cause damage to adjacent structures. This event could lead to more serious accidents in nuclear power plants. Therefore, to prevent serious accidents, high energy pipes of nuclear power plants are designed according to the ANSI / ANS 58.2 technical standard. However, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) has recently pointed out non-conservatism in existing high energy pipe fracture evaluation methods, and required the assessment of the unsteady load of the jet caused by a potential feedback mechanism as well as the impact range of steam jet, the jet impact loads and the blast wave effects at the initial breakage stage. The potential feedback mechanism refers to a phenomenon in which a vortex formed by impingement jets amplifies vortex itself and induces jet vibration in a shear layer. In this study, CFD methodology using the LES turbulence model is established and numerical analysis is carried out to evaluate the dynamic behavior of impingement jets and the potential feedback mechanism during jet impingement. Obtained results have been compared with an empirical correlation and experiment.

This paper deals with the dynamic simulation method for analysis of driving characteristics of aircraft and towing vehicles (TUG) on carrier vessel in wave motions. For prompt deployment in a short period of time, optimization of the movement of carrier aircraft becomes a major issue. In this regards, strategy studies using real-time simulation technology and optimal decision-making technologies are being conducted. In the present work, the dynamic characteristics of carrier aircraft and TUG connected by towbar or towbarless mechanism were investigated by means of multi-body dynamics model. Meanwhile, for real-time simulation, Dugoff's model of tire loads calculation was adopted. Through comparative analysis it was confirmed that the similarity of results between the multi-body contact model and the tire load calculation model can be achieved by coefficients tuning.

The sound radiation responses of multi-layer composite plates subjected to harmonic mechanical excitation in hygrothermal environment is numerically investigated. A homogenized micromechanical finite element (FE) based on the higher-order mid-plane kinematics replicating quadratic function as well as the through the thickness stretching effect together with the indirect boundary element (IBE) scheme has been first time employed. The isoparametric Lagrangian element (ten degrees of freedom per node) is used for discretization to attain the hygro-thermo-elastic natural frequencies and the modes of the plate via Hamilton's principle. The effective material properties under combined hygrothermal loading are considered via a micromechanical model. An IBE method is then implemented to attain structure-surrounding coupling and the Helmholtz wave equation is solved to compute the sound radiation responses. The effectiveness of the model is tested by converging it with the similar analytical/numerical results as well as the experimentally acquired data. The present scheme is further hold out for solving diverse numerical illustrations. The results revealed the relevance of the current higher-order FE-IBE micromechanical model in realistic estimation of hygro-thermo-acoustic responses. The geometrical parameters, volume fraction of fiber, layup, and support conditions alongside the hygrothermal load is found to have significant influence on the vibroacoustic characteristics.

The estimation of pile bearing capacity is important since the design details are determined from the result. There are numerous ways of determining the pile design load, but only few of them are chosen in the actual design. According to the recent investigation in Korea, the formulas proposed by Meyerhof based on the SPT N values are most frequently chosen in the design stage. In the study, various static and dynamic formulas have been used in predicting the allowable bearing capacity of a pile. Further, the reliability of these formulas has been verified by comparing the perdicted values with the static and dynamic load test measurements. Also in cases, these methods of pile bearing capacity determination do not take the time effect consideration, the actual allowable load as determined from pile load test indicates severe deviation from the design value. The principle results of this study are summarized as follows : A a result of estimate the reliability in criterion of the Davisson method, in was showed that Terzaghi & Peck > Chin > Meyerhof > Modified Meyerhof method was the most reliable method for the prediction of bearing capacity. Comparisons of the various pile-driving formulas showed that Modified Engineering News was the most reliable method. However, a significant error happened between dynamic bearing capacity equation was judged that uncertainty of hammer efficiency, characteristics of variable , time effect etc... was not considered. As a result of considering time effect increased skin friction capacity higher than end bearing capacity. It was found out that it would be possible to increase the skin friction capacity 1.99 times higher than a driving. As a result of considering 7 day's time effect, it was obtained that Engineering News. Modified Engineering News. For the design of composite breakwater as representative one of the coastal and harbor structures, it has been widely discussed by the researchers about the relation between the behavior of excess-pore-water pressure inside the rubble mound and seabed caused by the wave load and its structural failure. Recently, the researchers have tried to verify its relation through the numerical simulation technique. The above researches through numerical simulation have been mostly applied by the linear and nonlinear analytic methods, but there have been no researches through the numerical simulation by the strongly nonlinear mutiphase flow analytical method considering wave-breaking phenomena by VOF method and turbulence model by LES method yet. In the preceding research of this study, olaFlow model based on the mutiphase flow analytical method was applied to the nonlinear interaction analysis of regular wave-composite breakwater-seabed. Also, the same numerical techniques as preceding research are utilized for the analysis of irregular wave-composite breakwater-seabed in this study. Through this paper, it is investigated about the horizontal wave pressures, the time variations of excess-pore-water pressure and their frequency spectra, mean flow velocities, mean vorticities, mean turbulent kinetic energies and etc. around the caisson, rubble mound of the composite breakwater and seabed according to the changes of significant wave height and period. From these results, it was found that maximum nondimensional excess-pore water pressure, mean turbulent kinetic energy and mean vorticity come to be large equally on the horizontal plane in front of rubble mound, circulation of inflow around still water level and outflow around seabed is formed in front of rubble caisson.
