  • In this paper we proposed system and algorithm to recognize hand gestures based on the millimeter wave that is in 65GHz bandwidth. The proposed system is composed of millimeter wave radar board, analog to data conversion and data capture board and notebook to perform gesture recognition algorithms. As feature vectors in proposed algorithm. we used global and local zernike moment descriptor which are robust to distort by rotation of scaling of 2D data. As Experimental result, performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with those of algorithms using single global or local zernike descriptor as feature vectors. In analysis of confusion matrix of algorithms, the proposed algorithm shows the better performance in comparison of precision, accuracy and sensitivity, subsequently total performance index of our method is 95.6% comparing with another two mehods in 88.4% and 84%.

  • There are two methods for train control in information transmission by using track circuit system and installing wayside transmitter. Information signal is transmitted to the on-board antenna by using rails. Continuous information about train intervals, speed and route is received by on-board antenna in AF track circuit system. The information signal is included with carrier wave and received by magnetic coupling in the on-board antenna. Therefore, it is important to define standard current level in the AF track circuit system. When current flowed to rails is low, magnetic sensors are not operated by decreasing magnetic field intensity. Hence, SNR is decreased because electric field intensity is decreased. When the SNR is decreased, there is the serious influence of noise upon demodulation. So, the frequency of information signal is not extracted in frequency response. Thus, it is possible to happen to train accident and delay as the information signal is not analyzed in the on-board antenna. In this paper, standard energy density is calculated by using Parseval's theory in UM71c track circuit. Hence, detection time of information signal is presented.

  • In the ocean engineering field, information about the ocean environment is important for planning, design, and operation, especially the wave information. High precision wave data is also important for considering environmental problems, like efficient operation of ships. For this purpose, many methods were considered in the past. However, an on-board directing wave measurement system has not been incorporated. The use of conventional marine radar Plane Position Indicator (PPI) images allows the estimation of wave information on a real-time basis, using both space and time information, regarding the evolution of ocean surface waves. In order to achieve data acquisition, the Radar Scan Converter (RSC) has been developed. Three-dimensional analysis was performed. The comparison of wave information derived from this system, and that of wave buoy, shows that this wave field detecting system can be a useful tool.

  • In order to improve navigational safety of ships, an ocean wave prediction model of high precision within a short time, dealing with multi-directional random waves from the information of the sea surface winds encountered at the planned ship's course, was introduced for construction of ocean wave forecasting system on the ship. In this paper, we investigated a sea disaster occurred by a stormy weather in the past. We analyzed the sea surface wind first and then carried out ocean wave hindercasting simulations according to the routes the sunken vessel. From the result of this study, we concluded that the sea disaster was caused by rapidly developed iou pressure system Okhotsk Sea and the predicted values by the third generation wave prediction model(WAM) was agreed well with the observed significant wave height, wave period, and directional wave spectrum. It gives a good applicability for construction of a practical on-board calculation system.

  • Improvement of sound absorption capability of wood and wood-based board by resonant absorption was attempted. Sound absorption coefficients of wood and wood-based board which contain normal, simple perforation and stair type perforation had been estimated by the tube method using standing wave ratio. Sound absorption coefficients of wood specimens of simply perforated and perforated with stair were higher than that of normal specimens. Especially, in case of stair type perforation, it was about 50 to 60% higher than that of normal specimen in the frequency of 3 to 4KHz. It was considered that the cavity which had been formed by perforation with stair type behaved as a single resonator. Wood-based board showed good sound absorption coefficients in the frequency from 125Hz to 2KHz and that of perforated board showed a little higher in the frequency from 300Hz to 500Hz than that of normal board. The computed data of resonant frequencies at several sizes of cavity showed good accordance with the estimated data of those.

  • This paper presents a cross-eye characteristics of multi-path wave scattering. Cross-eye method uses the phase differences of multi signals and is used fur electronic protection. When a signal is propagated from transmitter to receiver on the ground surface, direct wave and reflected wave signals are combined in front of the receiving antenna with different phases. To calculate and control the amplitude and phase of reflected signal, we have developed a cross eye electronic protection method for radar system and studied the variation of electric power density.

  • The motion of a small boat in seas is affected in relatively higher degrees than the case of a larger ship by the specific characteristics of sea waves, i.e., the wave length and height. Ship's motion caused by sea waves is a matter of special importance to small fishing boats, because they carry out fishing job in rough seas frequently. This is an experimental study on the rolling and pitching motions of full scale ship. In the experiment, the ship's motions were measured for head, how, beam, quarter and following seas. The experiment were carried out on board the training ship Pusan 404(160 GT) in the adjacent waters off NAM HYENG JAE DO on Dec. 13th 1994. The sea condition during the measurements was that wave height 2.5m, no swell and the wind velocity of 12 m/sec. Some statistic considerations were given to the observed data by the series analysis methods and discussed in this paper.

  • In this paper, an experimental investigation for return loss and a software-based prediction for interference level of single-packaged filtering antenna composed of dielectric waveguide filter and PCB(Printed Circuit Board) slot antenna in transceiver module have been carried out with several different feeding structures in millimeter-wave regime. The implementation and embedding method of the existing air-filled waveguide filters working at millimeter-wave frequency on general PCB substrate have been described. In a view of the implementation of each components, the dielectric waveguide embedded in PCB and LTCC(Low Temparature Co-fired Ceramic) substrates has employed the via fences as a replacement with side walls and common ground plane to prevent energy leakage. The characteristics of several prototypes of filtering antenna embedded in PCB substrate are considered by comparing the wideband and transmission characteristics as a function of bent angle of transmission line connecting two components. In addition, as an essential to the packaging of transceiver module working at millimeter-wave, miniaturization technology maintaining the performances of independent components and the important problems caused by integrating and connecting the different components in different layers are described in this paper.

  • This study proposes a remote monitoring of patients and emergency notification system with a camera and pulse wave sensor for U-Healthcare. The proposed system is a server client model based U-Healthcare system which consists of wireless clients that have micro-controller, embedded-board for patient status monitoring and a remote management server. The remote management server observes the change of pulse wave data individually in real-time sent from the clients that is to be remote-monitored based on the pulse wave data stored by users and divides them into caution section and emergency section. When the pulse wave data of a user enters an emergency situation, the administrator can make a decision based on the real-time image information and pulse rate variability. When the status of the monitored patient enters the emergency section, the proposed U-healthcare system notifies the administrator and relevant institutions. An experiment was conducted to demonstrate the pulse wave recognition of the proposed system.
