A volume integral equation method(VIEM) is applied for the effective analysis of elastic wave scattering problems in unbounded solids containing general anisotropic inclusions. It should be noted that this newly developed numerical method does not require the Green's function for anisotropic inclusions to solve this class of problems since only the Green's function for the unbounded isotropic matrix is Involved In their formulation for the analysis. nis new method can also be applied to general two-dimensional elastodynamic problems with arbitrary shapes and number of anisotropic inclusions. Through the analysis of plane elastodynamic problems in unbounded isotropic matrix with an orthotropic inclusion, it is established that this new method is very accurate and effective for solving plane elastic problems in unbounded solids containing general anisotropic inclusions.

A numerical model of nonlinear stream function wave theory evolved from Dean's model (1965) is presented. The stream function theory has been evaluated to be an accurate and useful tool for engineering applications. Effects of damping coefficient employed in a linearized simultaneous equation and number of points in the numerical integration of model on numerical solutions are assessed. Most accurate wave characteristics calculated by the present model are tabulated using revised Dean's Table (Chaplin, 1980) input parameters. Since the well-known feature of nearly breaking waves that with increasing wave steepness the wave length as well as integral properties have a maximum prior to the limiting wave height is represented by the model, the accuracy of model can be proved.

A Volume Integral Equation Method (VIEM) is applied for the effective analysis of elastic wave scattering problems and plane elastostatic problems in unbounded solids containing general anisotropic inclusions. It should be noted that this newly developed numerical method does not require the Green's function for anisotropic inclusions to solve this class of problems since only Green's function for the unbounded isotropic matrix is involved in their formulation for the analysis. In this paper, we propose an optimal design method for a dual reflector antenna(DRA) using the Genetic algorithm. In order to reduce the computational burden during the optimal design, we exploit the iterative physical optics(IPO) to calculate the surface current distribution at each reflector antenna. To improve the accuracy, we consider the shadow effect by the structure and the coupling effect by the multi-reflection based on the iterative MFIE(Magnetic Field Integral Equation). To reduce the number of design variables and generate a smooth surface, we use the Bezier function with the control points, which become the design variables in this paper. We adopt the HPBW(Half Power Beam Width), the FNBW(First Null Beam Width), and the SLL(Side Lobe Level) as the objective or cost functions. To verify the results, we compare them with the those of the commercial tool.

A computational method of the Michell integral for water of finite depth is developed and the method makes use of the expansion of the hull form by the Legendre polynomial in both the longitudinal and the vertical directions. The wave resistance coefficient is given as a quadruple summation of the product of the shape factor and the hydrodynamic factor. The shape factor depends only upon the geometry of the hull form, and the hydrodynamic factor upon the depth-based Froude number and the ratios of the water depth and the draft to the ship length. Example calculations are done for the Wigley parabolic hull and the Series 60 $C_B$ 0.6, and the comparison of our results with the existing experimental data is shown.

The method of moments(MoM) is one of the most popular integral-equation-based full-wave simulation methods, and the multi-level fast multipole method(MLFMM) algorithm can be used for its efficient calculation. When calculating the surface current on the large scatterer in the MoM or MLFMM, iterative methods for the final matrix inversion are used. Among them, BiCGstab(l) has been widely adopted due to its good convergence rate. The number of iterations can be reduced when l becomes larger, but the number of operations per iteration is increased. Herein, we analyze the computational complexity of BiCGstab(l) in the MLFMM method and propose an optimum choice of l.
A traveltime tomography has been carried out by transforming electromagnetic data in frequency domain to wave-like domain. The transform uniquely relates a field satisfying a diffusion equation to an integral of the corresponding wavefield. But direct transform of frequency domain magnetic fields to wave-field domain is ill-posed problem because the kernel of the integral transform is highly damped. In this study, instead of solving such an unstable problem, it is assumed that wave-fields in transformed domain can be approximated by sum of ray series. And for further simplicity, reflection and refraction energy compared to that of direct wave is weak enough to be neglected. Then first arrival can be approximated by calculating the traveltime of direct wave only. But these assumptions are valid when the conductivity contrast between background medium and the target anomalous body is low enough. So this approach can only be applied to the models with low conductivity contrast. To verify the algorithm, traveltime calculated by this approach was compared to that of direct transform method and exact traveltime, calculated analytically, for homogeneous whole space. The error in first arrival picked by this study was less than that of direct transformation method, especially when the number of frequency samples is less than 10, or when the data are noisy. Layered earth model with varying conductivity contrasts and inclined dyke model have been successfully imaged by applying nonlinear traveltime tomography in 30 iterations within three CPU minutes on a IBM Pentium Pro 200 MHz.

The numerical calculation for solving boundary-value problem related to potential flows with a free surface is carried out by application of the localized finite element method. Only forced motion of 2-D body in infinitely deep fluid is considered, although this schemes is equally applicable to any first order time-harmonic problems of similar nature. The infinite domain of the fluid is separated into the inner flow field and the outer flow field with common inter-surface boundary. The finite element method is applied to obtain the solution in the inner flow field and the Green functions are utilized to represent the solution in the outer flow field. At the inter-surface boundary, the continuity of the value of potential and the normal derivative of the potential(i.e. matching condition) is conserved. The present method has better computational efficiency than the previous LFEM and the integral equation method of Frank. This enhanced computational efficiency is presumably due to the fact that the present method gives a symmetric coefficient matrix and requires less computational time in calculating the influence coefficient matrix of Green function than the integral equation method. And the irregular frequency desen't exist because the uniqueness of the solution is assured by the such that the exact free surface condition is satisfied on the boundary of the localized finite element region(i.e. inner region). As an example of the above method, the hydrodynamic forces for the circular cylinder and the rectangular cylinders are calculated. In the computed results, the small number of singularity distribution segments($3{\sim}6$) give good result relative to Ursell's and Vugts'.

Monostatic RCS analysis of complex structures has been done with a combined method of physical and geometric optics, commonly applied to high frequency electromagnetic backscattering problems. In the analysis, the complex structure is modeled as a number of flat surfaces and the RCS of whole structure is calculated by summing RCS of each surface, which can be obtained from an analytical solution of flat surface phase integral derived from physical optics. The reflected and hidden surfaces are searched by an object precision method based on adaptive triangular beam method, which can take account for effects of multiple reflections and polarizations of electromagnetic wave. The validity of the presented RCS analysis method has been verified by comparing with exact solutions and measured data for various structures.
The solutions are expressed in terms of a double integral transformation over wavenumber and frequency. The complete solution is considered in such a full wave theory approach. This method can handle a larger number of plane layers. Therefore, the result of FK method is very similar to real data. Using the models that were modified in velocity and Q value with depth by iterative process from a model (Kang and Park, 2006) and considered as one of the best models in Korean Peninsula, the synthetic data are simulated for explosions and earthquakes of North Korea. This study notes that the wave shape of the synthetic data is very dependent on Q value, velocities, and thickness of sedimentary layers. Comparing between the real and the synthetic, fitting well in arrival time of first arrival and wave shape causes us to arrive at an indication that the model is very close representation of upper crustal structure and simulations are well done in amplitude fitting and in identification of phases of local and regional waves.
