The impact of spar-nacelle-blade coupling on edgewise dynamic responses of spar-type floating wind turbines (S-FOWT) is investigated in this paper. Currently, this coupling is not considered explicitly by researchers. First of all, a coupled model of edgewise vibration of the S-FOWT considering the aerodynamic properties of the blade, variable mass and stiffness per unit length, gravity, the interactions among the blades, nacelle, spar and mooring system, the hydrodynamic effects, the restoring moment and the buoyancy force is proposed. The aerodynamic loads are combined of a steady wind (including the wind shear) and turbulence. Each blade is modeled as a cantilever beam vibrating in its fundamental mode. The mooring cables are modeled using an extended quasi-static method. The hydrodynamic effects calculated by using Morison's equation and strip theory consist of added mass, fluid inertia and viscous drag forces. The random sea state is simulated by superimposing a number of linear regular waves. The model shows that the vibration of the blades, nacelle, tower, and spar are coupled in all degrees of freedom and in all inertial, dissipative and elastic components. An uncoupled model of the S-FOWT is then formulated in which the blades and the nacelle are not coupled with the spar vibration. A 5MW S-FOWT is analyzed by using the two proposed models. In the no-wave sea, the coupling is found to contribute to spar responses only. When the wave loading is considered, the coupling is significant for the responses of both the nacelle and the spar.

The present study concerns assessing the operability of a surface combatant, based on the Percent-Time-Operable (PTO). For validation of the seakeeping analysis in the regular waves, the model test is first conducted in a towing tank. The seakeeping analysis results in the regular waves are expanded to the irregular waves, considering the wave spectra around the Korean peninsula and in North Pacific. The seakeeping criteria of the surface combatant in transit, combat, replenishment operation, and survival condition are defined by the literature review. An annual operation scenario of the surface combatant in two operation areas, i.e., advance speed and wave direction, are combined with the seakeeping analysis results to assess PTO. The main constraints of operability of the surface combatant are identified as the pitch angle and vertical velocity at the helicopter deck.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the torsional and cyclic fatigue resistance of ProGlider (PG), WaveOne Gold Glider (WGG), and TruNatomy Glider (TNG). Materials and Methods: A total of 15 instruments of each glide path system (n = 15) were used for each test. A custom-made device simulating an angle of 90° and a radius of 5 millimeters was used to assess cyclic fatigue resistance, with calculation of number of cycles to failure. Torsional fatigue resistance was assessed by maximum torque and angle of rotation. Fractured instruments were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Data were analyzed with Shapiro-Wilk and Kruskal-Wallis tests, and the significance level was set at 5%. Results: The WGG group showed greater cyclic fatigue resistance than the PG and TNG groups (p < 0.05). In the torsional fatigue test, the TNG group showed a higher angle of rotation, followed by the PG and WGG groups (p < 0.05). The TNG group was superior to the PG group in torsional resistance (p < 0.05). SEM analysis revealed ductile morphology, typical of the 2 fracture modes: cyclic fatigue and torsional fatigue. Conclusions: Reciprocating WGG instruments showed greater cyclic fatigue resistance, while TNG instruments were better in torsional fatigue resistance. The significance of these findings lies in the identification of the instruments' clinical applicability to guide the choice of the most appropriate instrument and enable the clinician to provide a more predictable glide path preparation.

In the state of Positronium (Ps), which is an unstable material created by the temporary combination of electrons and positrons, the imaging technology through photo-conversion methodology is emerging as a new research theme under resonance conditions through terahertz electromagnetic waves. Normally, Positronium can be observed in the positron emission computed tomography (PET) process when an unstable, separate state that remains after the pair annihilation of an electron and a positron remains. In this study, terahertz (THz) waves and Cherenkov radiation (CR) are generated using the principle of ponderomotive force in the plasma wake-field acceleration, and electrons and positrons are simultaneously generated by using a relativistic electron beam without using a PET device. We confirm the possibility of Positronium photoconversion technology in terahertz electromagnetic resonance conditions through experimental studies that generate an unstable state. Here, a relativistic electron beam (REB) energy of 0.5 MeV (γ=2) was used, and the terahertz wave frequencies is G-band. Meanwhile, a THz wave mode converting three-stepped axicon lens was used to apply the photoconversion technology. Through this, light emission in the form of a luminescence-converted Bessel beam can be verified. In the future, it can be used complementarily with PET in nuclear medicine in the field of medical imaging.

The test fit has commonly used for the evaluation of the railbed condition, and indirect methods by using the compressional wave are also studied. the direct evaluation method by penetration test has not been studied. For the measurement of in-situ cone tip resistance of the railbed with minimizing the disturbance of the upper railbed. the cone penetrometer with the helical type outer rod(CPH) was developed. The outer rod, which has helical screw, is penetrated through the gravel layer and provides the reaction force for cone penetration testing. the cone tip resistances are measured by the mini cone penetrometer, where diameter is 15mm. For the developing the mini cone, strain gauge installation, circuit configuration, penetration rates and calibration process are considered. For the easy penetration of the screw rod in the field, the reaction force stepping plate and guide column are arranged. The screw rod are penetrated through the gravel layer. And the mini cone was pushed into the subgrade railbed at the penetration rate of 1mm/sec. The penetration test shows that the cone tip resistance increases along the depth. In addition, the subgrade condition is evaluated. This study demonstrates that the CPH may be effectively used for the evaluation of subgrade method any damage of the gravel layer.

This paper presents a navigation garde capacitive microaccelerometer, whose low-noise high-resolution detection capability is achieved by a new electrode design based on a high-amplitude anti-phase sense voltage. We reduce the mechanical noise of the microaccelerometer to the level of 5.5$\mu\textrm{g}$/(equation omitted) by increasing the proof-mass based on deep RIE process of an SOI wafer. We reduce the electrical noise as low as 0.6$\mu\textrm{g}$/(equation omitted) by using an anti-phase high-amplitude square-wave sense voltage of 19V. The nonlinearity problem caused by the high-amplitude sense voltage is solved by a new electrode design of branched finger type. Combined use of the branched finger electrode and high-amplitude sense voltage generates self force-balancing effects, resulting in an 140% increase of the bandwidth from 726㎐ to 1,734㎐. For a fixed sense voltage of 10V, the total noise is measured as 2.6$\mu\textrm{g}$/(equation omitted) at the air pressure of 3.9torr, which is the 51% of the total noise of 5.1$\mu\textrm{g}$/(equation omitted) at the atmospheric pressure. From the excitation test using 1g, 10㎐ sinusoidal acceleration, the signal-to-noise ratio of the fabricated microaccelerometer is measured as 105㏈, which is equivalent to the noise level of 5.7$\mu\textrm{g}$/(equation omitted). The sensitivity and linearity of the branched finger capacitive microaccelerometer are measured as 0.638V/g and 0.044%, respectively.

In order to evaluate a stress state of concrete according to the change of tensile force of prestressed beam, improved nonlinear resonant ultrasonic spectroscopy(NRUS) method is proposed. This technique is advantageous to evaluate the stress state in initial state because the method shows much higher sensitivity than existing linear ultrasonic methods. The NRUS technique measure a nonlinearity parameter, which is calculated from the resonant frequency shift of ultrasonic wave related to the medium state, and the result is also closely related to the stress state of concrete. In this study, the nonlinearity parameter was measured with the change of tensile force to verify the close relationship between the two factors, and the effect of repetitive load cycle on the change of nonlinearity parameter was analyzed. In addition, sensitivity comparison with the linear ultrasonic pulse velocity method was performed. Through the experimental results, the possibility of NRUS technique for the evaluation of stress state in prestressed beam was confirmed.

We present a continuous size-dependent particle separator using a negative dielectrophoretic (DEP) virtual pillar array. Two major problems in the previous size-dependent particle separators include the particle clogging in the mechanical sieving structures and the fixed range of separable particle sizes. The present particle separator uses the virtual pillar array generated by negative DEP force instead of the mechanical pillar array, thus eliminating the clogging problems. It is also possible to adjust the size of separable particles since the size of virtual pillars is a function of a particle diameter and applied voltage. At an applied voltage of 500 kHz $10\;V_{rms}$ (root mean sqaure voltage) sinusidal wave and a flow rate of $0.40\;{\mu}l\;min^{-1}$, we separate $5.7\;{\mu}m$-, $8.0\;{\mu}m$-, $10.5\;{\mu}m$-, and $11.9\;{\mu}m$-diameter polystyrene (PS) beads with separation purity of 95%, 92%, 50%, and 63%, respectively. The $10.5\;{\mu}m$- and $11.9\;{\mu}m$-diameter PS beads have relatively low separation purity of 50% and 63%. However, at an applied voltage of $8\;V_{rms}$, we separate $11.9\;{\mu}m$-diameter PS beads with separation purity over 99%. Therefore, the present particle separator achieves clog-free size-dependent particle separation, which is capable of size tuning of separable particles.

The procedure and the results of the full scale strain measurement of the long-range high-speed foil catamaran are described. The wave induced stresses at the center struts of the foils were measured during the sea trials in order to evaluate the hydrodynamic force acting on the foils and to verify the structural safety of the foil structures. From the statistical properties of the measured response of the stress, the most probable maximum values of the lift force and the stresses at the foils in service life of the ship are predicted and compared with the design parameters of the foils which were applied in the design of the subject ship. The available prediction processes of the measured stress are studied and the results of the applied processes are compared with each other.
Vessels on anchoring are frequently dragged due to the increased area of wind pressure by enlargement of ship's size and sudden gust of winds in recent years. In the view point of the ship's navigators, the proper measurements corresponding to the dragging of anchor should be taken into account concerned about the time for the occurring of dragging by the external forces such as wind and wave, the pattern and speed of dragging and the possibility of collisions with any other vessels or obstacles. In this paper, it was examined the actual dragging anchor in T.S. HANBADA due to the wind and waves. From this case, it was found the critical external forces by which she was begun to dragged comparing the force by the wind, frictional resistance, drifting force and ship motion moment with the holding power. Also, through the analysis of the dragging pattern, it was known the alteration range of heading angle, swinging width and dragging speed etc.
