  • PC apartment house 15 years have elapsed have various deteriorations by water leakage in roof and wall. The prior investigation such as investigating of leakage repair history of PC apartment and the field investigation were carried out to solve the water leak problem in its structure. The path of water was analyzed on the parts of greatest water leak such as roof parapet, roof floor, side wall, corridor and balcony. As a result, the specific path of the water leakage was identified in various structure units.

  • Coastal village and Inland village was village in jeju. This study was cultural elements of stone to village in jeju. Memorial Stone and Stone Monument Street, Shrine, An altar of sarificial site for village tutelary spirits, Bangsatap(pagoda), 25 Bongsu(25 beacon fire stations) and 38 Yeondae(38 signaling sites), Hwanhaejangseong Fortress, Grave wall and Horse pasture walls were included in elements of history and culture to village in jeju. An altar of sarificial rite for village tutelary spirits was generally on the a hill near a village, built of Stone wall. Bangsatap(pagoda) was the kind and the size of stone to a location, that expresses the form and the scale. the form of grave wall was the oval or the rectangle, the latter was frequent. Thatched houses in jeju and facilities in a house, Stone wall, Tongsi(pigsty), Paeng namu and A heights of stone, Spring water and Water collected in a depression, Stone Weir, Horse mill and Dodaebul(Old Lighthouse) were included in elements of life and culture to village in jeju. Stone wall has the multiplicity of the size and the building method in the use, the function and the region. The form of Stone weir was the rectangular figure or the curvilinear figure, the section of that was the right triangle or the rectangular form.

  • A down construction method is frequently used in these days to reduce popular discontent and to assure sufficient working space at early stage in downtown area. There are two main problems in the existing down construction method. One is a confliction between frame works and excavation works, and the other is a cold joint in retaining wall which is unavoidable due to a sequence of concrete placement and induces a water leakage. Therefore, a new method is needed to overcome these problems. The CWS (buried wale Continuous Wall System) method was developed by authors. By replacing RC perimeter beam with embedded steel wale, the steel frame works of substructure can be simplified and the water leakage can be prevented using continuous retaining wall. Consequently, the improved qualify and reduction of construction period can be obtained from CWS method.

  • Braced excavation systems are commonly required to ensure stability in construction of basements for shopping malls, underground transportation and other habitation facilities. For excavations in deposits of soft clays or residual soils, stiff retaining wall systems such as diaphragm walls are commonly adopted to restrain the ground movements and wall deflections in order to prevent damage to surrounding buildings and utilities. The ground surface settlement behind the excavation is closely associated with the magnitude of basal heave and the wall deflections and is also greatly influenced by the possible groundwater drawdown caused by potential wall leakage, flow from beneath the wall, flow from perched water and along the wall interface or poor panel connections due to the less satisfactory quality. This paper numerically investigates the influences of excavation geometries, the system stiffness, the soil properties and the groundwater drawdown on ground surface settlement and develops a simplified maximum surface settlement Logarithm Regression model for the maximum ground surface settlement estimation. The settlements estimated by this model compare favorably with a number of published and instrumented records.

  • In this paper, a new performance equation of bath tubs has been derived, which is very characteristically illuminating and in good agreement with experiments : $$T=T_{\infty}+(T_0-T_{\infty})e-\frac{k(A'_f+A_0)}{Mc_{P{\Delta}x}t$$, where $T_{\infty}$ is the temperature of the bathroom, $T_0$ that of the bathwater at t=0, k the overall heat conductivity of the tub- wall, $A'_f$ the equivalent surface area to the wall, $A_0$ the submerged area of the tub-wall, M mass of the bath-water, $C_p$ the specific heat of the bathwater and ${\Delta}x$ the thickness of the tub-wall. Here the equivalent-free surface area is written as $$A'_f=mA_f,\;m=const.(1-{\phi})^{0.88}$$ : where m is a numerical factor which is determined by a simple experiment and some calculation, {\phi}$ the relative humidity and $A_f$ the real free-surface area. From this study, it has been clarified that cooling of bath-water is mainly due to mass-transfer through evaporation from the free surface and conductive heat loss through the tub-wall is minor, which rather gaily mock at common sense. The effect of keeping bathwater warn by increase of the tub-wall thickness is also analyzed by a new idea of the thickness gain factor.

  • The characteristics of tidal circulation with the flow-control structures using the three-dimensional numerical model (POM, Princeton Ocean Model) of Chinhae Bay, Korea were investigated. To confirm th efficiencies of flow-control structures, the training wall and submerged training wall were constructed at the mouth and narrow channel in Chinhae Bay. On the basis of the present investigation, the tidal circulation induced by the construction of flow-control structures could enhance the water exchange improvement appropriately. And, th training wall at the central is more dominated than the other structures for the efficient of water exchange. The sites and types of structure and flow patterns seem to be very sensitive in tidal simulation and changes in flow fields.

  • To demonstrate prevention of the leachate leakage out of the landfill with creating inward hydraulic gradient, a tracer test and continuous waterlevel monitoring at the Inside and outside of the barrier wall of a costal landfill were peformed. When the tracers were injected into the well outside of the vertical wall system with high water level, then they were detected at the well inside of the system with low water level. Furthermore the lowered water level at the inside of the landfill than that at the outside prevented leachate leakage out of the landfill. This study reports results of the tracer test and waterlevel monitoring.

  • A water wall system is one of the most important components of a boiler in a thermal power plant, and it is a nonlinear Multi-Input and Multi-Output (MIMO) system, with 6 inputs and 3 outputs. Three models are developed and comp for the controller design, including a linear model, a multilayer feed-forward neural network (MFNN) model and an Echo State Network (ESN) model. First, the linear model is developed by linearizing a given nonlinear model and is analyzed as a function of the operating point. Second, the MFNN and the ESN are developed by using training data from the nonlinear model. The three models are validated using Matlab with nonlinear input-output data that was not used during training.

  • The effects of addition of water extract of pine needle(WEPN) on texture and cell wall polysac-charides content of kimchi during fermentation at 1$0^{\circ}C$ were investigated. Textural properties of hardness, gumminess and cohesiveness of kimchi were higher for WEPN-added kimchi than for the control during the entire fermentation periods, while its adhesiveness was lower. Alcohol insoluble substance, among cell wall polysaccharide fractions of kimchi was higher in WEPN-added kimchi than in the control but water soluble materals was high in control during fermentation periods. The separation phenomenon of middle lamella of control kimchi tissue was observed at 14th days of fermentation but WEPN-added kimchi showed at 21th days fermentation. The vasular of kimchi tissue was more destroyed in control than in WEPN-added kimchi.
