To increase the mechanical durability of the proton exchange membrane fuel cells, a reinforced membrane in which a support is placed in the polymer membrane is used. The support mainly uses e-PTFE, which is hydrophobic and does not transfer ions, which may cause performance degradation. In this study, we investigated the effect of e-PTFE support on PEMFC performance and electrochemical durability. In this study, the reinforced membrane with the support was compared with the single membrane (non-reinforced membrane). Due to the hydrophobicity of the support, the water diffusion coefficient of the reinforced membrane was lower than that of the single membrane. The reinforced membrane had a lower water diffusion coefficient, resulting in higher HFR, which is the membrane migration resistance of ions, than that of a single membrane. Due to the low hydrogen permeability of the support, the OCV of the reinforced membrane was higher than that of the single membrane. The support was shown to reduce the hydrogen permeability, thereby reducing the rate of radical generation, thereby improving the electrochemical durability of the reinforced membrane.
PURPOSES : This study intends to develop an inorganic soil pavement material using industrial by-products and to evaluate its applicability as a road pavement material. METHODS : In this study, a compressive strength experiment was conducted based on the NaOH solution molarity and water glass content to understand the strength properties of the soil pavement material according to the mixing ratio of alkali activator. In addition, the strength characteristic of the inorganic soil pavement material was analyzed based on the binder content. The performance of the soil pavement was evaluated by conducing an accelerated pavement test and a falling weight deflectometer (FWD) test. RESULTS : As a result of the soil pavement material test based on the mixture ratio of alkali activator, it was identified that the activator that mixed a 10 M NaOH solution to water glass in a 5:5 ratio is appropriate. As a result of the inorganic soil pavement materials test based on the binder content, the strength development increased sharply when the amount of added binder was over 300 kg; this level of binder content satisfied 28 days of 18 MPa of compression strength, which is the standard for existing soil pavement design. According to the measured results of the FWD test, the dynamic k-value did not show a significant difference before or after the accelerated pavement testing. Furthermore, the effective modulus decreased by approximately 50%, compared with the initial effective modulus for pedestrian pavement. CONCLUSIONS : Based on these results, inorganic soil pavement can be applied by changing the mixture proportions according to the use of the pavement, and can be utilized as road pavement from light load roads to access roads.
Permeable pavement technology allows the penetration of rainfall into the roadbed, thereby reducing surface runoff and enhancing water quality. The water quality can be improved by adding a filter layer to the permeable pavement. This study analyzes the permeability performance and particulate-matter removal efficiency of a bottom ash-silica sand filter. The performances of five filters with bottom ash and silica sand as the basic materials were evaluated on particulate matter sized 60 ㎛ or smaller. The pure silica sand sample and pure bottom ash sample delivered an average removal efficiency of around 70%. The removal efficiency of the mixed sample was approximately 90%, exceeding the recommended reduction rate (80%) at non-point pollution reduction facilities. In future work, the filter performance should be further verified on permeable pavement.

Recently, active researches are conducted on high performance concrete(HPC) exhibiting high strength and high fluidity. These researches are resulting in increased applications on real structures. In order to satisfy the required performances, HPC makes use of large quantities of binder and presents low water-cementitious material ratio. Such mixing is increasing significantly the autogenous shrinkage, which subsequently is likely to favor the potential development of cracks. Therefore, we investigated the effect of used materials and mix proportions on the shrinkage properties of HPC, and of the use of expansive additives and shrinkage reducing agents on the HPC. The autogenous shrinkage of HPC using blast furnace slag are tend to be increased, in some case have the potential development of cracks by only the autogenous shrinkage. Also the using method in combination with expansive additive and shrinkage reducing agent is more effective than the separately using method of that.

This paper proposes a study of cement replacement with rice husk ash (RHA) and eggshell ash (ESA) for enhanced mechanical properties of geopolymer (GP) concrete with and without admixture. The main objective is to investigate the mechanical properties of GP with various replacement levels of Pozzolana Portland cement by RHA and ESA. The GP resistance to durability is examined and impact of ash materials on concrete's durability performance is determined. The environmental benefits of using agricultural waste materials in GP manufacturing minimize cement usage and CO2 emissions. The goal is to assess value of RHA-ESA of building material, paving stones for structures to lessen environmental impact. The novelty lies in use of ESA and RHA as partial replacements for cement and investigation of admixtures to enhance concrete properties, and reduce environmental impact. The research contributes by introducing a novel approach to reducing cement consumption by using ESA and RHA to address environmental concerns. It also explores the potential benefits of admixtures improving concrete performance and reducing environmental pollution. A study is carried with and without impacts of admixture to find compressive strength of GP cubes. The cement has been replaced by RHA and ESA in the range of (2.5%+7.5%, 5%+5%, 7.5%+2.5) by weight of cement for M20 mix. The compressive strength (CS) and split tensile strength (STS) at 7days, 14 days and 28 days is obtained as 21 N/mm2 at 7.5%RHA+2.5%ESA and 2.3 at 7.5%RHA+2.5%ESA, 24 N/mm2 at 7.5%RHA+2.5%ESA and 2.3 at 7.5%RHA+2.5%ESA, 28 N/mm2 at 7.5%RHA+2.5%ESA and 2.8 at 7.5%ESA respectively with normal curing condition.
Recently, The sea water temperature around Korean Peninsula is steadily increasing. Water temperature changes not only affect the fishing ecosystem, but also are closely related to military operations in the sea. The purpose of this study is to suggest which model is more suitable for the field of water temperature prediction by attempting short-term water temperature prediction through various prediction models based on deep learning technology. The data used for prediction are water temperature data from the East Sea (Goseong, Yangyang, Gangneung, and Yeongdeok) from 2016 to 2020, which were observed through marine observation by the National Fisheries Research Institute. In addition, we use Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Bidirectional LSTM, and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) techniques that show excellent performance in predicting time series data as models for prediction. While the previous study used only LSTM, in this study, the prediction accuracy of each technique and the performance time were compared by applying various techniques in addition to LSTM. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that Bidirectional LSTM and GRU techniques had the least error between actual and predicted values at all observation points based on 1 hour prediction, and GRU was the fastest in learning time. Through this, it was confirmed that a method using Bidirectional LSTM was required for water temperature prediction to improve accuracy while reducing prediction errors. In areas that require real-time prediction in addition to accuracy, such as anti-submarine operations, it is judged that the method of using the GRU technique will be more appropriate.
Sustainable practices of school foodservices are gaining more attentions. The study aimed to investigate dietitians' performance levels of sustainable practices in school foodservice settings in Gyeonggi Provinces. Using a survey method was used, and data were collected from 358 participants (response rate 59.7%) to be analyzed using the SPSS program. The evaluation tool for sustainable practices of school foodservices consisted of four sections and 34 criteria with 100 points. Employment status of the respondents was as follows: nutrition teachers 40.9%, dietitians (permanent) 45.1%, and temporary position dietitians 13.2%. Dietitians' performance for sustainable practices marked 65.67 points out of 100 (performance rate 66%) and were in the following order by section: sustainable foodservice management criteria (69%), support activities (69%), planning and evaluation (68%), and outcome management (52%). Regarding sub-sections, criteria that acquired higher performance rates were labelling of food origin (99%), use of seasonal vegetables and fruits (98%), food waste management by contract dealer (98%), and planning for reducing of food waste and solid waste (91%). Meanwhile, criteria that showed the lowest scores were installing water conservation devices on equipment (19%), operating food donation programs for communities (21%), use of sensor lights for electricity conservation (24%), planning for annual energy conservation (40%), and implementation of education programs for foodservice workers on sustainable activities (42%). Performance scores differed according to school levels and working experience of dietitians, indicating that dietitians at elementary school foodservices or with work experience of 15 to 20 years showed higher performance than those at high schools or with less than 5 years of work experience (P<0.001, P<0.05). Based on the results, action plans for improvement were suggested.
As the number of Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) patients increases in a global pandemic situation, the usefulness of mobile computed tomography (CT) is gaining attention. Currently, mobile CT follows the basic safety and essential performance evaluation criteria of whole-body or limited-view X-ray CT in order to obtain device approval and evaluation in the Republic of Korea. Unlike stationary CT, mobile CT is not operated in shielded areas but rather areas such as intensive care units, operating rooms, or isolation rooms. Therefore, it requires a different basic safety and essential performance evaluation standard than stationary CT. In this study, four derived basic safety evaluation criteria related to electrical, mechanical, and radiation safety were included (dose indication test, protection against stray radiation, safety measures against excessive X-rays, half-value layer measurement); and seven essential performance evaluation criteria were included (tube voltage accuracy, mAs accuracy, radiation dose reproducibility, CT number of water, noise, uniformity, and spatial resolution); total eleven basic safety and essential performance evaluation criteria were selected. This study aims to establish appropriate basic safety and essential performance evaluation criteria for simultaneously obtaining images with diagnostic value and reducing the exposure of nearby patients, medical staff, and radiologic technologists during the use of mobile CT.
As the role of water distribution networks (WDNs) becomes more important, identifying abnormal events (e.g., pipe burst) rapidly and accurately is required. Since existing approaches such as field equipment-based detection methods have several limitations, model-based methods (e.g., machine learning based detection model) that identify abnormal events using hydraulic simulation models have been developed. However, no previous work has examined the impact of data uncertainties on the results. Thus, this study compares the effects of measurement error-induced pressure data uncertainty in WDNs. An artificial neural network (ANN) is used to predict nodal pressures and measurement errors are generated by using cumulative density function inverse sampling method that follows Gaussian distribution. Total of nine conditions (3 input datasets × 3 output datasets) are considered in the ANN model to investigate the impact of measurement error size on the prediction results. The results have shown that higher data uncertainty decreased ANN model's prediction accuracy. Also, the measurement error of output data had more impact on the model performance than input data that for a same measurement error size on the input and output data, the prediction accuracy was 72.25% and 38.61%, respectively. Thus, to increase ANN models prediction performance, reducing the magnitude of measurement errors of the output pressure node is considered to be more important than input node.

With the recent industrial developments and economic development nationally, there has been a rapidly increasing demand for the use of underground space as locations for establishing social infrastructure and various convenience facilities. In this study, a mist-control system was developed to reduce the generation of dust in underground blasting. To enhance the dust-reduction effect, a guiding device was developed which is capable of adjusting the direction of the spray toward's the blasting face of mine or tunnel. A numerical analysis was performed by using the AUTODYN software, and results were compared with those published in basic experiments. To verify the mist-diffusion effect according to the position of explosives in a water bag, numerical analyses were conducted for the following cases: Explosives were set in the middle, and in the bottom of the water bag. The optimum condition was external detonation and center charge. The mist particle size from the result was suitable for the reduction of dust after blasting in underground mine and tunnel.
