As the combustion process of CWM consists of the water evaporation, the release and combustion of volatile matter, and the combustion of char for every particle, it is more complex than that of existent liquid fuel. Though the many studies on CWM combustion have been carried out by the single droplet using hanging methods or the multiple droplet using atomization methods, any report don't presents definite solution about the effects by the initial water evaporation and combustion of volatile. When CWM is suddenly exposed in the high temperature surroundings, the internal water evaporates and then each droplet builds up pores. Besides, porosity rate changes along the temperature of surroundings, the composition ratio of CWM, and the initial diameter of droplet. In result, because it affects the whole combustion rate, the combustion of CWM has complex mechanism as compared with the combustion of liquid or gas fuel. Therefore, concentrating on porous structure of CWM, this study has proceeded to acquire the basic data on the CWM injection combustion and closely examines the effects of the first stage combustion on the whole combustion by measuring the diameter variations, pore rate, mass fraction burned, and the internal temperature changes of CWM droplet. The results demonstrate that $60{\sim}70%$ of initial mass is reduced during water evaporation and volatile combustion period, and swelling rate, mass faction burned, and density variation are greatly concerned with atomization of CWM etc.

For vibration analysis of stiffened plates the orthotropic plate analogy is commonly accepted. As to stiffened plates in contact with water, however, there is still much uncertainty in estimation of the added mass because of the lack of direct methods. The authors, considering that for added mass of plates there are many reliable data derived theoretically or experimentally available, suggest a method to estimate the added mass of a stiffened plate by combining the mass increase factor, $\beta$, of an equivalent orthotropic plate and the correction factor, $\kappa$, for the effects of stiffeners. The latter is to be derived from systematic experimental investigations. Then, the natural frequency in water, f', can be calculated from that in air, f, by the equation $f'=f/\sqrt{1+\kappa\beta}$. To investigate practical applicability of this method, a systematic experiment was carried out with five uniaxially stiffened plates. Each of them had a plate of same size, $600mm{\times}600mm{\times}3.2mm$, but stiffeners of different size in the web-depth, 41.6mm, 51.2mm or 66.8mm and of different spacing 75mm, 100mm, or 150mm. Natural frequencies were measured under simply supported-edge conditions in both air and water, and corresponding $\kappa$ values derived. In spite of wide variations of web-depth and spcae of stiffeners, the experimental results show that the diversity of $\kappa$ values is not remarkable; mean values of $\kappa$ are 1.31 with standard deviation of 0.025 for the first modes and 1.27 with that 0.077 for the second modes. Hence, the authors concluded that the above $\kappa$ values can be used generally for the cases of uniaxially stiffened plates both sides of which contact with water, and that $\kappa$ values of general use for the cases of cross-stiffened plates may also be obtainable from similar experiments.

In this study, the performance of five ejectors has been investigated with working fluids of water and water vapor. The diameters of nozzle and mixing tube of five ejectors were 1 and 1.5(ejector A), 1 and 2(ejector B), 1 and 2.5(ejector C), 1 and 3(ejector D), 2 and 4(ejector E) in millimeters. The length of the mixing tube was 8-10 times of its diameter. For each ejector, the ratio of mass flow rate of ejected water to that of entrained water vapor, $\mu$, was evaluated in terms of evaporator pressure, mass flow rate of ejected water, and water temperature. It was found that the performance of an ejector was not stable when the ratio of diameters was too small or too large(ejector A and D) and $\mu$ was almost the same for two ejectors with the same diameter ratio(ejector B and E). It was also found that $\mu$ increased almost linearly with an increase of evaporator pressure and the ratio $\mu$ increased as water temperature decreased. As expected, $\mu$ converged to zero as the water temperature approached the evaporator temperature. Finally, a non-dimensional correlation has been developed to predict$\mu$ terms of evaporator pressure and saturation pressure of ejected water.
In this study we investigated the removal characteristics of NOM and bromate formation characteristics in SOMT reactor. The system was recently developed as a novel ozone reactor and installed in SJ pilot plant. DOC values were decreased within 3% after treatment of 0.5~2.0 mg/L ozone dosage in SOMT reactor while the $UV_{254}$ value was 69% decreased at 2.0 mg/L ozone dosage. The composition of NOM was analysed by LC-OCD (Organic Cabon Detector) after ozone treatment in SOMT reactor to elucidate the variation of NOM character. Polysaccharide (more than 20,000 g/mol) fraction of NOM was decomposed while building blocks (350~500 g/mol) and neutral (less than 350 g/mol) fraction increased. Spiked bromide reacted with 0.5~2.0 mg/L ozone dosage in the SOMT reactor. The bromate formation was proportional to the ozone dosage ($R^2=0.978$) but not proportional to reaction time. The maximum concentration of formated bromate was not exceeded to 10% of spiked bromide concentration.

In this study, the steady state performance of a $CO_2$ heat pump water heater was measured with a variation of operating conditions such as refrigerant charge amount, compressor frequency, EEV opening, and water mass flow rate. Transient state performance tests were also conducted to investigate major system effects associated with the interaction between the $CO_2$ heat pump water heater and the water tank. Optimum refrigerant charge amount for the system was 1600 g. At compressor frequencies of 50 Hz and 60 Hz, water mass flow rates of 95 kg/h and 105 kg/h, and EEV opening of 8% and 16%, the water heating temperatures were $65^{\circ}C$ and $68^{\circ}C$ and COPs were 3.0 and 2.8, respectively. In the transient condition, the instantaneous COP decreased with an increase in the inlet water temperature.
Theoretical calculation results are presented for the enhancement of the water mass flow rate through the hydrophobic micro/nano pores in the membrane respectively on the micrometer and nanometer scales. The water-pore wall interfacial slippage is considered. When the pore diameter is critically low (less than 1.82nm), the water flow in the nanopore is non-continuum and described by the nanoscale flow equation; Otherwise, the water flow is essentially multiscale consisting of both the adsorbed boundary layer flow and the intermediate continuum water flow, and it is described by the multiscale flow equation. For no wall slippage, the calculated water flow rate through the pore is very close to the classical hydrodynamic theory calculation if the pore diameter (d) is larger than 1.0nm, however it is considerably smaller than the conventional calculation if d is less than 1.0nm because of the non-continuum effect of the water film. When the driving power loss on the pore is larger than the critical value, the wall slippage occurs, and it results in the different scales of the enhancement of the water flow rate through the pore which are strongly dependent on both the pore diameter and the driving power loss on the pore. Both the pressure drop and the critical power loss on the pore for starting the wall slippage are also strongly dependent on the pore diameter.

Previously reported Ar/N$_2$ratios in groundwater have been measured by single ion monitoring (Barnes et al., 1975; Vogel et al., 1981; Mariotti et al., 1988). The detector geometry and flared flight tube in VG Optima isotopic ratio mass spectrometer appeared to be fortuitously aligned for the simultaneous measurement of Ar/N$_2$ratios. Method development included mechanical adjustments to optimize the mass spectrometer for Ar/N$_2$ratio measurements followed by development of a preparation system for the extraction of air-saturated water samples. Samples containing known Ar/N$_2$ratios were used to assess accuracy and precision, and to test the applicability of methods for measurements of aqueous Ar/N$_2$ratios. The results indicated that the prepared air-saturated water samples were almost identical to the predicted Ar/N$_2$ratios (p <0.001). Groundwater samples were collected from on-going research sites, Shelton and Grand Island, Nebraska. Samples from the Grand Island sludge injection site form a lower boundary for worldwide reported Ar/N$_2$ratios. These lower Ar/N$_2$ratios can be explained by the production of nitrogen gas from this site, where denitrification was reported previously.
An unprecedented mass mortality of commercially important macrobenthic animals, including Haliotis discus discus, H. diversicolor, Batilus cornutus, Sticopus japonious and Hemicentrotus puzoherrimus, occurred off the west coast of Cheju Island in summer of 1996. Phytoplankton blooms were absent along the coast. The appearances of the surface low-salinity water (SLSW) off the coast of Cheju Island preceded the mass mortality, leading to speculation that the low-salinity stress may have a crucial role in the mass mortality. Since there was no heavy rain for the same period, the precipitation was not a possible explanation for the decrease of salinity. Physical oceanographic data taken by NFRDI (1997) clearly indicated that the SLSW was present in the area between China and Cheju Island in August 1996. This is most likely due to a freshwater supply resulting from the existence of large river runoff. Evidence of the current and the distance between the Yangtz River and Cheju Island also supports the hypothesis that source of the SLSW was the freshwater originated from the Yangtz River runoff.[macrobenthic animals, mass mortality, surface low-salinity water].

After construction, time-variant seepage and long-term underground motion are representative factors to understand the abnormal behavior of tunnels. In this study, numerical models have been developed to analyze the behavior of tunnels associated with seepage and long-term underground motion. Possible scenarios have been investigated to establish causes-and-results mechanisms. Various parameters such as permeability of tunnel filter, seepage condition, water table, long-term rock mass load, size of damaged zone due to excessive blasting have been investigated. These are divided into two sub-parts depending on the tunnel type and major loading mechanisms depending on the types. For the soft ground tunnels, the behavior associated with seepage conditions has been studied and the effect of permeability change in tunnel-filter and the effect of water-table change which are seldom measurable are investigated in detail. For the rock mass tunnels, tunnel behavior associated with the visco-plastic behavior of rock mass has been studied and the long-term rock mass loads as a result of relaxation and creep have been considered.

The nonlinear dynamic characteristic of a straight tube conveying fluid with constraints and an attached mass on the tube is examined in this study. An experimental apparatus composed of an elastomer tube conveying water which has an attached mass and constraints is made and comparisons are done between the theoretical results from non-linear equation of motion of piping system and experimental results. And the results show that the tube is destabilized as the mass of the attached mass increases, and stabilized as the position of the attached mass close to the fixed end. In case of a small end-mass, the system shows rich and different types of periodic solutions. For a constant end-mass, the system undergoes a series of bifurcations after the first Hopf bifurcation, as the flow velocity increases, which causes chaotic motion of the tube eventually.
