To simulate the combustion process under stratified charged conditions, like GDI engines, the new combustion model is proposed, which is based on Welter's FAE model and Peters' PDF model for considering primary reactions. In addition to these models, the new laminar burning velocity correlation and diffusion flame model are also included in the proposed model. The former can be applicable to much wider range of equivalence ratio, pressure and temperature than the others, such as Keck's and Guilder's models, and the latter has been derived from water-gas shift reaction and hydrogen oxidation, by which the secondary reactions can be considered after primary reactions. 3-D computation has been performed by using STAR-CD v3.05 in the simple cylindrical geometry under stratified charged condition. Judging from the calculated results, the present model proves to be reasonable to simulate the characteristics of flame propagation and concentrations of products in burned regions.
Mo/γ-Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by impregnation method in various conditions to identify the states of surface Mo species. TPR (Temperature-Programmed Reduction) and Raman spectroscopy were applied to analyze the surface Mo species. TPR analysis revealed that MoO3 was reduced to Mo through MoO2, the intermediate state and the increase of Mo loading enhanced the reducibility of Mo oxide till the formation of monolayer coverage. High temperature calcination induced oxygen defects in MoO3 giving their unstable states for easier reduction. Raman spectroscopy analysis showed that the increase of Mo loading induced the polymeric Mo oxide.
High temperature co-electrolysis of H2O-CO2 mixtures using solid oxide cells has attracted attention as promising CO2 utilization technology for production of syngas (H2/CO), feedstock for E-fuel synthesis. For direct supply to E-fuel production such as hydrocarbon and methanol, the outlet gas ratio (H2/CO/CO2) of co-electrolysis should be controlled. In this work, current voltage characteristic test and product gas analysis were carried out under various reaction conditions which could attain proper syngas ratio.
Kinetic and effectiveness factors for methanol steam reforming using commercial copper-containing catalysts in a plug flow reactor were investigated over the temperature ranges of $180-250^{\circ}C$ at atmospheric pressure. The selectivity of $CO_2$/$H_2$ was almost 100%, and CO products were not observed under reaction conditions employed in this work. It was indicated that $CO_2$ was directly produced and CO was formed via the reverse water gas shift reaction after methanol steam reforming. The intrinsic kinetics for such reactions were well described by the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model based on the dual-site mechanism. The six parameters in this model, including the activation energy of 103kJ/mol, were estimated from diffusion-free data. The significant effect of internal diffusion was observed for temperature higher than $230^{\circ}C$ or particle sizes larger than 0.36mm. In the diflusion-limited case, this model combined with internal effectiveness factors was also found to be good agreement with experimental data.
2020년까지 대형 CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) Demo Plant 시장 (100MW 이상) 이 형성될 전망이다.
Cerium oxide (ceria, CeO2) is one of the most wide-spread oxide supporting materials for the precious metal nanoparticle class of heterogeneous catalysts. Because ceria can store and release oxygen ions, it is an essential catalytic component for various oxidation reactions such as CO oxidation (2CO + O2 2CO2). Moreover, reduced ceria is known to be reactive for water activation, which is a critical step for activation of water-gas shift reaction (CO + H2O → H2 + CO2). Here, we apply van der Waals-corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculations combined with U correction to study the mechanism of water chemisorption on CeO2(111) surfaces. A stoichiometric CeO2(111) and a defected CeO2(111) surface showed different water adsorption chemistry, suggesting that defected CeO2 surfaces with oxygen vacancies are responsible for water binding and activation. An appropriate level of water-ceria chemisorption energy is deduced by vdW-corrected non-local correlation coupled with the optB86b exchange functional, whereas the conventional PBE functional describes weaker water-ceria interactions, which are insufficient to stabilize (chemisorb) water on the ceria surfaces.
Nowadays biodiesel (fatty acid methyl ester, FAME) has been becoming an important issue as a desired alternative of energy products because of non-toxic, biodegradable properties, and lower exhaust emissions. During esterification of fatty acids or transesterification of oils and fats with short chain alcohols by the alkali-catalyzed methanolysis, FAME and unrefined glycerol are generated. Quantification of glycerol as a by-product is important because of a determinant of biodiesel quality. However, the glycerol analysis by gas chromatography (GC) method has laborious works with sample preparation, long time and cost of sample analysis. Thus, there is a need to analyze glycerol more simply. Herein we demonstrate that the colorimetric assay for glycerol analysis conducted by UV-vis spectrophotometer at the wavelength 617 nm whose peak is maximum intensity of malachite green, resulting in the red-shift occurred proportionally as a function of glycerol amount. Thus, it is considered the solvent media for malachite green fading for biodiesel production: (1) water, (2) MeOH, and (3) EtOH. The resulting findings show that the peak intensity at 617 nm in glycerol-malachite green mixture had a relationship between glycerol concentration and degree of peak shift as increase in pure glycerol concentration approximately at pH 7.0. However, when it was measured the unrefined glycerol concentration by diluting and adjusting with water to buffer (pH 7.0), it was not observed the absorption peak at 617 nm because of impurities and OH ions. In case of glycerol from biodiesel production factories, glycerol concentration could be successfully measured.
