  • Two air vents situated on a heat transport pipe in district heating system were exposed to the same environment for 10 years. However, one air vent was more corroded than the other. It also had a hole on the top of the front-end pipe. Comparative analysis was performed for these air vents to identify the cause of corrosion and establish countermeasures. Through experimental observation of the damaged part and analyses of powders sampled from air vents, it was found that corrosion was initiated at the top of the front-end pipe. It then spread to the bottom. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy results showed that potassium and chlorine were measured from the corroded product in the damaged air vent derived from rainwater and insulation, respectively. The temperature of the damaged air vent was maintained at 75 ~ 120 ℃ by heating water. Rainwater-soaked insulation around the front-end pipe had been hydrolyzed. Therefore, the damaged air vent was exposed to an environment in which corrosion under insulation could be facilitated. In addition, ion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma measurements indicated that the matrix of the damaged front-end pipe contained a higher manganese content which might have promoted corrosion under insulation.

  • The ventilation theory developed by Luyten, Pedlosky and Stommel (1983) is applied to the East Sea to understand the general circulation pattern of the Intermediate Water, especially the ventilated circulation beneath the Tsushima Warm Current. The original model is slightly modified such that it takes the inflow-outflow of the Tsushima Current into consideration. Results of the model indicate that for sufficiently strong Ekman pumping, the Intermediate Water circulates cyclonically by ventilation. The Intermediate Water subducts beneath the Tsushima Warm Water through the western boundary layer. Off the western boundary layer, it turns northward, outcrops to the north by passing the polar front and continues to flow northward until it finally is absorbed by the northern boundary layer. This result seems to be compatible with some recent observations. Over the ventilated area, the transport of the Tsushima Current is negligible and most transport occurs in the shadow area where the Intermediate layer is motionless indicating that, over the deep motionless layer, the two-layered vertical structure under consideration becomes substantially single-layered.

  • In this paper, We explained the best shape design of electrode for discharge on the water. Electrode with rounding was reduced maximum electric field of over 40% to electrode without rounding for discharge on the water and the best shape of electrode for discharge on the water designed when shape of electrode had a curve radius of over $60^{\circ}$ at electrode's face to electrode's face with minimum distance and a curve radius of under $120^{\circ}$ at electrode's side face to electrode's front face. And When dielectric beads are used between electrodes, the life of electrodes is improved by lower stress of electric field on surface of electrodes.

  • The topographic influences for the hydraulic characteristics in the estuary were studied by the hydraulic model test. The upstream boundary is set up at the Kumkang estuary dike and the downstream boundary at the Kunsan outer port. The geometrical model scales in horizontal and vertical are 1/300 and 1/100 respectively so that the distorted ratio is 3. If there is no or little river flow through the gate, the highest water levels are varied with $\pm$ 5cm compared with those before the project. If there is a flood flow through the gate, the highest water levels in front of the estuary dike are reduced 5~2Ocm depending on the frequency of flood compared with those before the project. This means that there is no important risk of excessive water level rise after the dredging.

  • Shallow failures of slopes in weathered soils are caused by infiltration due to prolonged rainfall. These failures are mainly triggered by the deepening of the wetting band accompanied by a decrease in suction induced by the water infiltration. In this paper, hysteresis on soil-water characteristic curve(SWCC) of granite and gneiss weathered soils are investigated using transient flow analysis respectively. Each case was subjected to artificial rainfall intensities and time duration depending on the laboratory-based drying and wetting processes. The results show that the unsaturated seepage on weathered slopes are very much affected by the initial suction of soils and unsaturated permeability of the soils. In addition, a granite weathered soil has a lower air-entry value, residual matric suction, and wetting front suction and less hysteresis loop than a gneiss weathered soil.

  • Gas hydrates are solid solutions when water molecules are linked through hydrogen bondin create host lattice cavities that can enclose a large variety of guest gas molecules. The natural hydrate crystal may exist at low temperature above the normal freezing point of water and pressure greater than about 30 bars. A lot of quantities of natural gas hydrates exists in the ear many production schemes are being studied. In the present investigation, depressurization method considered to predict the production of gas and the simulation of the two phase flow - gas and - in porous media is being carried out. The simulation show about the fluid flow in porous have a variety of applications in industry. Results provide the appearance of gas and water prod the pressure profile, the saturation of gas/ water/ hydrates profiles and the location of the pl front.

  • In Korea, most landslides occurred during the rainy season and had a shallow failure plane parallel to the slope. For these types of rainfall-induced failures, the most important factor triggering slope unstability is decrease in the matric suction of unsaturated soils with increasing saturation depth by rainfall infiltration. The saturation depth was readily estimated using modified Green-Ampt model proposed by Chu et al. (Chu Model) at present. But Chu Model involves some problems for application, because water-redistribution phenomena were not effected. So the modified Chu Model (MCGAM) which reflect water redistribution phono mens was developed. The results showed that the MCGAM had a better agreement with measured volumetric water contents than existing Chu Model.

  • In this study, the green water phenomena on rectangular shaped structure is numerically simulated by STAR-CCM+ to investigate the flow pattern including the velocity profiles in bubbly water flow. 5 phases of the formation of green water in front of and over the rectangular shaped structure is simulated at the design condition which is scaled down by 1:125 from FPSO operating in GOM. All numerical results are compared with the experimental results performed in a two dimensional wave flume. The water deformation due to the green water are obtained by the high speed CCD camera with employing the shadow graphy technique, which is allowed to take the bubbly water flow into images. A series of image taken by shadow graphy technique is analyzed with MQD method to calculate the velocity in bubbly water flow.
