This study revealed the behavior of droplets formed through leak process in deep water. There was a threshold depth named the universal attraction depth (UAD). Droplets rose upward in the zone below the UAD called the rising zone, and settled down in the zone above the UAD called the settling zone. Three mass loss modes were identified and formulated: dissolution induced by mass transfer, condensation by heat transfer and phase separation by pressure decrease. The first two were active for the settling zone, and all the three were effective for the rising zone. In consequence, the life time of the droplets in the rising zone was far shorter than that of the droplets in the settling zone.
In the present study, experiments on the film boiling of liquid droplets on oxidized copper surface was conducted. The shape of pure water droplets was observed, and the evaporation rate of them was measured during the film boiling evaporation process. The droplet of initial volume 16 ~ 30 µl was applied onto the oxidized copper surface heated up to 300 ~ 500℃, then the shape of the droplet was analyzed during the film boiling evaporation. Experimental results showed that there was good correlation between dimensionless volume and dimensionless time. However, a significant difference in evaporation rate for small and large droplets discussed in previous study was not found.
The water droplet motion and the interaction between the droplets in a PEMFC air flow channel with multiple pores, through which water emerges, is studied numerically by solving the equations governing the conservation of mass and momentum. The liquid-gas interface is tracked by a level set method which is based on a sharp-interface representation for accurately imposing the matching conditions at the interface. The method is modified to implement the contact angle conditions on the walls and pores. The dynamic interaction between the droplets growing on multiple pores while keeping the total water flow rate through pores constant is investigated by conducting the computations until the droplet motion exhibits a periodic pattern. The numerical results show that the droplet merging caused by increasing the number of pores is not effective for water removal and that the contact angle of channel wall strongly affects water management in the PEMFC air flow channel.
Wet compression means the injection of water droplets into the compressor of gas turbines. This method decreases the compression work and increases the turbine output by decreasing the compressor exit temperature through the evaporation of water droplets inside the compressor. This paper provides thermodynamic and aerodynamic analysis on wet compression in a centrifugal compressor for a microturbine. The meanline performance analysis of centrifugal compressor is coupled with the thermodynamic equation of wet compression to get the meanline performance of wet compression. The most influencing parameter in the analysis is the evaporative rate of water droplets. It is found that the impeller exit flow temperature and compression work decreases as the evaporative rate increases. And the exit flow angle decreases as the evaporative rate increases.
This experiment has been carried out to measure the process of droplet formation between water phase fluid(PVA 3%) and organic phase fluid(oil) and vector fields measured by a Dynamic Micro-PIV method in the inside of a droplet while generated. Droplet length controlled by changing flow rate conditions in microchannel. Water-in-oil(W/O) droplets successfully generated at a Y junction and cross microchannel. But oil-in-water(O/W) droplets could not be formed at a Y junction microchannel. That is, PVA 3% flow could not be detached from the PDMS surface and ran parallel with oil flow. When PVA 3% flow rate was constant, droplet length and time period decreased as oil flow rate increased, but droplet frequency increased. When PVA 3% and oil flow rate ratio was constant, droplet length and time period decreased as flow rate increased, but droplet frequency increased. All that case, Standard deviation of droplet formation have less than 5% at averaged droplet length and regular-sized droplets were reproducibly formed.
Visualization of internal flow of a regenerative blower has been made by injecting a tracer directly into the flow. For the convenience of visualization, working fluid has been replaced by water and marbling color oil has been used as a tracer. Oil droplet has been injected near the inlet of the blower and the streak has been recorded using a high speed camera with the illumination of high power light sources. At first, droplets have irregular motion in the near inlet area and enter into a groove of the impeller. Then the droplets circulate inside the groove while translated by the rotational motion of the impeller. When the droplets get out of the impeller groove, their speed is lower than that of impeller. And the droplets repeatedly enter into the groove and circulate inside the grooves. Then the droplets either flow to the outlet or reenter into the inlet area through stripper. Through this experimental study, internally circulating motion of the flow inside a regenerative blower has been characterized.

The atomizations of CWM slurry and water are done by a wheel atomizer which is designed and manufactured for this experiment. The variables of the experiment are the angle of vane, aspect ratio, particle loading and the mean size of coal particle distribution. The main purposes of the experiment are to know how the angle of vane and aspect ratio of vane influence the size distribution of CWM droplets. The experimental results say there are no appreciable effects on the mean size of CWM droplets from the change of loading of coal prticles in slurry. The mean size of coal particle in slurry, however, influence quite strongly the mean size of CWM droplets. The mean size of CWM droplets is quite strongly affected by the angle of vane. The size distribution of CWM droplets is controllable by the change of aspect ratio.

We have studied the stability of W/O high internal phase emulsions(HIPE) containing water, cetyl dimethicone copolyol and oils varying magnesium sulfate in the range 0 to 0.5 wt% and oil polarities, respectively. The rheological consistency was mainly destroyed by the coalescence of the deformed water droplets. The greater the increase of complex modulus was, the less coalescence occurred and the more consistent the concentrated emulsions were. The increasing pattern of complex modulus versus volume fraction has been explained with the resistance to coalescence of the deformed interfacial film of water droplets in concentrated W/O emulsion. The stability is dependent on: (i) the choice of the oil is important, the requirements coincide with the requirements for the formation of the rigid liquid crystalline phases; and (ii) addition of salts the aqueous phase opposes the instability due to coalescence. Increasing the salt concentration increases the refractive index of the aqueous phase. It lowers the difference in the refractive index between the oil and aqueous phases. This decreases the attraction between the water domains, thus increasing the stability.
An experimental study has been carried on single fuel droplets of water-in-light oil emulsions in an electric furnace to elucidate the dominant factor for the occurrence of micro-explosions. The tests were carried out by changing the following four parameters; the surfactant, the ratio of water to light oil, ambient temperature in electric furnace, and four kinds of fuels having different viscosity(light-oil, kerosene, iso-octane, bunker fuel). The result shows that micro-explosion phenomena is dominated without surfactant and below 30% of water content. Explosion-time is affected by ambient temperature and viscosity of used fuel.

The stability is dependent on: (i) the choice of the oil is important, the requirements coincide with the requirements for the formation of the rigid liquid crystalline phases :5; and (ii) addition of salts the aqueous phase opposes the instability due to coalescence:. Increasing the salt concentration increases the refractive index of the aqueous phase. It lowers the difference in the refractive index between the oil and aqueous phases. This decreases the attraction between the water domains, thus increasing the stability.
