In this study, Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) which is the measure of organic substances, Total nitrogen(T-N), Total phosphorous(T-P), Fe and Mn were analyzed in the sediments of dam reservoir. The purpose of this study were to understand the relevances among the analytical methods adopted and the applicabilities of those methods. For the determination of COD, Standard Method for the Examination of Marine Environment(SMEME) and Standard Method for the Examination of Sanitary(SMES) was used. Both method had wide dynamic range and the deviations of the values obtained by two methods were small because $KMnO_4$ method closely reflected BOD and organic substances. For the determination of T-N and T-P, Standard Method for the Examination of Food(SMEF) and Standard Method for the Examination of Sanitary(SMES) were used. Two methods for T-N were both the acid-base titration but SMES gave less T-N values than SMEF because of the differences in digestion and distillation steps. Two methods for T-P gave the comparable values after acid digestion of $HNO_3$ and $HClO_4$. The determination of heavy metals as a Fe, Mn was mainly divided to the leaching method and acid digestion method. The values obtained by leaching method were less than those by digestion method. It is thought that the condition of acid digestion was more severe than that of leaching method.
New simple methods for the Isolation of sesquiterpenes from Panax ginseng were developed. First, volatile compounds were isolated by simultaneous distillation and extraction (SDE) with 30% methanol and $\alpha$-hexane instead of water and ethyl ether/pentane (1:1). Secondly, head space volatiles in U-shaped tube at 7$0^{\circ}C$ were passed through C18 Sep-Pak by nitrogen gas streaming and the adsorbed volatiles were fluted by $\alpha$-hexane. TLC analysis showed that the volatile concentrates consisted mainly of terpenes when colored by vanillin-sulfuric and. GC/MS data revealed that approximately 30 sesquiterpenes of molecular weight 204 occupied 81.1% or more of the volatile concentrates isolated by those two newly developed methods. Among these, alloaromadendrene, germacrene B, isocaryophyllene, $\alpha$-neoclovene, ${\gamma}$-muurolene, $\beta$-panaslnsene, and $\alpha$-humulene were identified as being major sesqulterpenes by authentic samples or literatme search Key words : Panax ginseng, volatile compound, sesquiterpene, isolation, new method, GC/MS.

The purpose of this study was to analyse the volatile components of Thymus magnus Nakai extracted by different extraction methods and reproduce scent close to original plant based on the results. For this purpose, the essential oil of T. magnus was extracted by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), water and steam distillation (WSD) and simultaneous steam distillation and extraction (SDE) methods. The compositions of the essential oil were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Consequently, linalool (0.1%) and trans-sabinene hydrate (0.9%) contents in the essential oil extracted by SFE method of $40^{\circ}C$ - 400 bar condition were relatively higher than compositions of the essential oil extracted by different conditions. The contents of borneol (3.82%), terpinen-4-ol (0.3%) and caryophyllene oxide (2.2%) were relatively higher at $50^{\circ}C$ - 400 bar and the contents of ${\beta}$-bisabolene (5.88%), 1-octen-3-ol (0.31%), caryophyllene (2.91%), p-cymene (2.04%) and ${\gamma}$-terpinene (0.52%) were extracted relatively higher at $50^{\circ}C$ - 300 bar. The compositions of the essential oil extracted by SFE method of $50^{\circ}C$ - 200 bar condition contained relatively higher contents of thymol (77.63%) and carvacrol (5.65%). The contents of ${\alpha}$-bisabolol (0.17%), caryophyllene (6.46%), cis-${\alpha}$-bisabolene (1.52%) and ${\beta}$-bisabolene (20.65%) in the essential oil extracted by WSD method were relatively higher than compositions of the essential oil extracted by SFE method, and by SDE method we couldn't obtained essential oil. The results of this study could be utilized to reproduce scent close to original scent of T. magnus.
In this study, a hydrate inhibition system is investigated for shallow water gas fields. Mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) injection has been used as a typical method for inhibiting hydrate formation in gas fields; therefore, most offshore platforms are equipped with MEG injection and regeneration processes. A recent application of a kinetic hydrate inhibitor (KHI) has reduced the total volume of MEG injection and hence reduce the operating cost. Experiments are designed and performed to evaluate and verify the KHI performance for inhibiting hydrate formation under shallow water conditions. However, the shut-in and restart operation may require the injection and regeneration of MEG. For this operation, the MEG concentration must be optimized while considering the cost of MEG regeneration. The obtained results suggest that decreasing MEG concentration from 80 wt% to 70 wt% can reduce the life cycle cost (LCC) of MEG regeneration process by approximately 5.98 million USD owing to reduced distillation column cost. These results suggest that the hydrate inhibition system must be evaluated through well-designed experiments and process simulations involving LCC analysis.
When extracting semi-volatile components of herbal medicines using hot water vapor, some substances may react with water vapor or oxygen, and some volatile substances may be lost, when using an organic solvent extraction method has the disadvantage that it may contain a non-volatile material and residual organic solvent. In addition, it is inefficient to separate semi-volatile substances from herbal medicines into each single component and conduct biological activity research for each component to determine the effective ingredient, and some components may be lost in the separation process. In this study, semi-volatile substances evaporated under two pressure-reduced conditions in Chinese herbal medicines such as Cnidii Rhizoma, Aucklandiae Radix and Amomum Fructus were separated by cooling with liquid nitrogen. Those were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify the components, and this method may be used to study biological activities at the cellular level. The substances separated under reduced pressure, essential oil obtained by simultaneous distillation extraction (SDE) method and substances by using solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) from Cnidii Rhizoma, Aucklandiae Radix and Amomum Fructus were analyzed by GC-MS. In the case of Cnidii Rhizoma and Aucklandiae Radix, there were some differences among the essential oil components obtained by SDE and those identified by low temperature capture (CT) and SPME method, these were believed to be produced by some volatiles reacting with water or oxygen at the boiling point temperature of water.
Butyl acetate is produced from acetic acid and butanol via an esterification reaction in reactive distillation (RD). The product, butyl acetate, has been used as an internal entrainer until now. In this case, butyl acetate and water are removed at the top of column and separated into two different phases (organic and aqueous phases) after condensation, and butyl acetate rich organic phase is refluxed into the RD. This method makes butyl acetate remain high at the reactive zone, leading to lower equilibrium conversion and product yield. We introduced an extraneous entrainer to solve the problem. The extraneous entrainer forms a new azeotrope with water. The proposed process provides lower concentration of butyl acetate in the reactive zone than conventional RD processes using an internal entrainer. We compared the yield and production rate of butyl acetate between the proposed and conventional processes through pilot-scale experiments. Experimental and simulation results showed that the proposed process was more efficient than conventional process using internal entrainer.

Sunbigi tree(Vitex rotundifolia L.f.), which grows wild in the southern part of Korea and along the coast of the West Sea, has a lot of useful value in terms of resource utilization. Since ancient times, it has been used as folk medicine or herbal medicine in the private sector. Although the leaves and stems have a strong scent, the fruit also has a strong scent, so there are some studies on extracting essential oil from the fruit of Sunbigi tree and analyzing the ingredients, but there are few studies on the fragrance component by extracting hydrosol. The reason is that the fruits are hard and it is difficult to identify the active ingredients contained in the general extraction method. Therefore, in this study, the results of analyzing the components contained in the fragrance of hydrosol obtained by extracting hard fruits at high temperature by different extraction methods are as follows. 1. The extraction condition with the highest flavonoid content was 30.57 mg/g with ethanol, followed by hot water extract at 18.26 mg/g and water extract at 9.69 mg/g with the lowest. 2. As a result of distillation extraction from the fruit of Sunbigi tree, the fragrance of hydrosol is 3-Methyl-2-butenoic acid, cyclobutyl ester, Eucalyptol, L-alpha-Terpineol, 1H-Cycloprop[e]azulen-7-ol, decahydro-1 ,1,7-trimethyl-4-methylene-, [1ar-(1a.alpha.,4a.alpha.,7.beta.,7a.beta.,7b.alpha.)] were found to be many.
Lactic acid is widely used in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and there is an increasing demand for lactic acid as the raw material of poly lactic acid(PLA), which is a biodegradable polymer. Lactic acid production has been changing over from production by synthesis to production by fermentation, since the fermentation process is more nature friendly and economic. However, the fermentation method generates excess water and impurities with high boilers. The presence of high boilers and non volatility of lactic acid makes the separation of lactic acid very difficult job. Also, the purification-separation process requires the many investment costs and energy costs. Reactive distillation concept was also introduced for the process, giving higher selectivity and yield compared to the convention method. We introduce a new highly integrated process, reactive diving wall column, to reduce the capital and energy cost for producing a pure lactic acid. The reactive dividing wall column combines reactive distillation and dividing wall column. We compared capital and energy consumption required for the purification of lactic acid the between the proposed design structures. And we examined the effect of major process variables on the process performance and determined optimal process.
The global water shortage is getting more attention by global climate change. And water demand rapidly increases due to industrialization and population growth. Desalination technology is being expected as an alternative water supply method. Desalination technology requires low energy or maintenance costs, making it a competible next generation technology, with examples such as forward osmosis (FO), membrane distillation (MD), capacitive deionization (CDI), and electrodialysis (ED) to compete with reverse osmosis (RO). In order to identify recent research trends in desalination technologies (FO, MD, RO, CDI, and ED) between 2000-2020, a bibliometric analysis was conducted in the current study. The number of published papers in desalination technology have increased in Desalination and Journal of Membrane Science mainly. Moreover, it was found that FO, MD, RO, CDI, and ED technologies have been applied in various research areas including electrochemical, food processing and carbon-based material synthesis. Recent research topics according to the desalination technologies were also identified.
In this experiments, we introduce the simple method measuring the refractive index and it measured for severial materials compare with real values. Refractive index of distillation water, ethyl alcohol and acryl were $1.32{\pm}0.006$, $0.36{\pm}0.01$ and $0.48{\pm}0.005$, respectively.
