Heat Load Characteristics of Sea Water Cooling Apparatus on Inshore Fishing Boat (연근해 어선용 해수냉각장치의 열부하특성)

  • The circumstance is giving the blow against fishermen with the incoming-decreasing and the difficulty of crew's supply & demand and management. In addition, the depression of the external situation like the departure of WTO system and the plan of EEZ proclaim is forcing fishery into improving their fishing condition. By this international and domestic circumstance, development of the sea water cooling apparatus for fish hold storage is demanded sincerely. First of all, we Investigated load characteristics which based on development of sea water cooling system and optimum fish hold storage. The experimental results is as follows. In creasing the speed of compressor and mass blew rate of refrigerant, the temperature of NaCl solution is low. And the load characteristics experiment on fish hold storage outlet is as fellows. As time goes by, increasing the mass flow rate of NaCl solution, temperature difference between inlet and outlet is small in a model of fish hold storage. These results provide many useful informations applicable to an actual design of sea water cooling system and optimum fish hold storage.

  • These days the exhaustion of petroleum resources and environmental problems are getting serious. Many researchers are focused on low emission and high performance vehicles. Therefore, we should concern about emission regulation when we design a new car. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the traditional mechanical engine cooling systems which control the engine temperature using engine speed and wax type thermostat. This experiment used three components which are Radiator fan, water pump and water valve controlled by an electronic system based on the engine status (load, speed). We elucidated how different between traditional mechanical cooling system and electronic cooling system which control coolant temperature and coolant flow rate in a DI diesel engine in this paper. The results revealed a fuel saving and an emission (CO, HC) reduction on NEDC cycle.

  • Fuel represents a significant portion of the operating costs of voyages of the vessel. Under this situation, dramatic increase in fuel price caused a problem that earnings of ship becomes decreased seriously. Pumps in a cooling system of the vessel are often operated inefficiently. The reasons will vary from process to process and application to application. Inefficiency of pumps is one of the reason for making the cost of operating the vessel increased. This paper suggests energy-effective cooling system that controls sea water pumps with inverters to reduce energy consumption in vessel by conducting simulation with LabVIEW. Results shows that electric energy consumption of pumps are significantly deceased. If this energy-effective cooling system is applied to other systems which need cooling, it could be useful in reducing electric energy wastage.

  • During any construction involving mass concrete, it is crucial to control cracking during the placement and curing process. This study develops an intelligent cooling control system that regulates water temperature and flow based on concrete hydration heat, effectively preventing cracking in bridge construction. The system consists of hardware, a neural network-based control algorithm, and an information management system. An optimal cooling control strategy is proposed to dynamically regulate water flow and temperature, preventing cracking by utilizing real-time temperature data, target control curves, neural network algorithms, and cloud-based computing. The intelligent cooling control system has been successfully implemented in controlling cracking risks during bridge construction. It not only mitigates the risk but also provides a convenient management strategy for bridge construction projects. The optimal cooling control strategy ensures high accuracy and stability under unsupervised learning conditions. This intelligent cooling control system can be applied to similar constructions such as bridge, dam, and building that involve the use of mass concrete.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the simulation results and an overview of the performance assessment of a solar heating & cooling system by means of the $200m^2$ evacuated tube solar collector. The simulation was carried out using the thermal simulation code TRNSYS with new model of a single-effect LiBr/$H_{2}O$ absorption chiller developed by this study. The calculation was performed for yearly long-term thermal performance and for two design factors: the solar hot water storage tank and the cold water storage tank. As a result, it was anticipated that the yearly mean system efficiency is 46.7% and the solar fraction for the heating, cooling and hot water supply are about 84.4 %, 41.7% and 72.4%, respectively.

  • Direct contact air conditioning systems, in which heat and mass are transferred directly between air and water droplets, have many advantages over conventional indirect contact systems. The purpose of this research is to investigate the cooling and heating performances of direct contact air conditioning system for various inlet parameters such as air velocity, air temperature, water flow rate and water temperature. The experimental apparatus comprises a wind tunnel, water spray system, scrubber, demister, heater, refrigerator, flow and temperature controller, and data acquisition system. The inlet and outlet conditions of air and water are measured when the air contacts directly with water droplets as a counter flow in the spray section of the wind tunnel, and the heat and mass transfer rates between air and water are calculated. The droplet size of the water sprays is also measured using a Malvern Particle Analyzer. In the cooling conditions, the outlet air temperature and humidity ratio decrease as the water flow rate increases and as the water temperature, air velocity and temperature decrease. On the contrary, the outlet air temperature and humidity ratio increase in the heating conditions as the water flow rate and temperature increase and as the air velocity decreases.

  • Water cooling ducts are installed in the exhaust diffuser for high altitude tests of rocket engine to protect diffuser from high-temperature combustion gas. The mass flow rate and pressure of cooling water is designed to prevent boiling of cooling water in the ducts. Therefore, the estimation of maximum temperature of duct wall is important parameter in design of cooling system, especially pressure of cooling water. The method for predicting maximum temperatures of duct walls with variation of coolant flow rates was derived theoretically.

  • A vertical closed loop ground source heat pump (GSHP) is used to produce heat from the low-grade energy source such as the outside air and ground source. It is known that a heat pump system type has better efficiency comparing to the electric heating system. This study only demonstrates that the vertical closed loop GSHP system is a feasible choice for space cooling of air conditioning. The coefficient of performance (COP) is the ratio of heat output to work supplied to the system in the form of electricity. For the vertical closed loop GSHP system in a cooling mode, the COP is the most commonly used way for judging the efficiency. For the purpose of this experiment, vertical closed loop GSHP system was installed in the laboratory and the experiment was executed. As a result, an average COP of vertical-closed loop GSHP system was 3.62 when the outside average temperature was $33^{\circ}C$.

  • Optimal supervisory control strategy for the set points of controlled variables in the central cooling system has been studied by computer simulation. A quadratic linear regression equation for predicting the total cooling system power in terms of the controlled and uncontrolled variables was developed using simulated data collected under different values of controlled and uncontrolled variables. The optimal set temperatures such as supply air temperature, chilled water temperature, and condenser water temperature, are determined such that energy consumption is minimized as uncontrolled variables, load, ambient wet bulb temperature, and sensible heat ratio, are changed. The chilled water loop pump and cooling tower fan speeds are controlled by the PID controller such that the supply air and condenser water set temperatures reach the set points designated by the optimal supervisory controller. The influences of the controlled variables on the total system and component power consumption was determined. It is possible to minimize total energy consumption by selecting the optimal set temperatures through the trade-off among the component powers. The total system power is minimized at lower supply, higher chilled water, and lower condenser water set temperature conditions.

  • Recently, there has been increasing interest in the efficient use of energy due to policies related to the reduction of greenhouse gas. This paper suggests a highly efficient sea water cooling system for the load-dependent control of a seawater pump depending on the load, to improve energy efficiency of the warship. This study models the propulsion diesel engine and simulation reflecting the characteristics of the warship operation state that checked the performance of high efficiency sea water cooling system. The simulation results revealed the cooling system of high efficiency with energy savings of approximately 53% compared to the existing cooling systems. These results can be used to improve the performance of the cooling system of the warship propulsion diesel engine in the future.
