  • In this study, the production of proper emulsion fuel and the evaluation of its rheological stability in various experimental conditions were carried out. The W/O (water-in-oil) emulsion fuel was made using n-decane, pure water, and Span 80 was used as a surfactant. Increments of water volume ratio and fuel temperature were the factors, which boosted the phase separation of the emulsion fuel. Rheological characteristics for different water/oil volume ratio, temperature, and elapsed time after the fuel production were examined. As the water volume ratio in the fuel increased, the behavior of non-Newtonian fluid was observed. Viscosity declined as the fuel temperature increased due to the cohesion of water droplets in the fuel. The effect of elapsed time on viscosity was not severe for lower water ratio. However, gradual decrease of viscosity 3 hours after fuel production, in the case of ratio of 3:7, was clearly observed.

  • In this study, a long term monitering of nonpoint source pollution runoff is conducted at the area of transportation related and EMCs(Event Mean Concentrations) in terms of water quality items, such as BOD, $COD_{Mn}$, SS, T-N and T-P are determined for each not only runoff event and but also observation site. On the other hands, SWMM(Storm Water Management Model) model is constructed using the data collected in the transportation areas selected. Model calibration and verification of SWMM is carried out based on the data collected. And simulated EMCs was compared with observed EMCs by monitoring and prior studies. SWMM applicability estimation was Using the compared result. The results of simulation showed that BOD 5.787 ~ 14.475 mg/L, $COD_{Mn}$ 12.946 ~ 59.611 mg/L, SS 13.742 ~ 46.208 mg/L, T-N 2.037 ~ 5.213 mg/L, T-P 0.117 ~ 0.415 mg/L. And a differential between simulated EMCs and observed EMCs is too low so comparing result show high fit(BOD 4.27 %, $COD_{Mn}$ 4.87%, SS 2.31%, T-N 5.78%, T-P 14.45%). A results of compared with the prior studies, BOD and T-P are included range of prior studies, $COD_{Mn}$ and SS are lower than range of prior studies, T-N is higher than range of prior studies. Differential between simulated EMCs and prior studies EMCs was showing for survey seasonal and changing land-use, so from now on, EMCs of using the internal representatives value will be calculated by more monitoring toward various precipitation events.

  • It is difficult for seismic survey to get hold of characteristic of coal shale fractured zone and if coal shale zone did not come into contact with underground water, coal shale zone has characteristic of good strength. But in case coal shale zone is exposed by excavation or blasting to the air, strength of coal shale zone decreases in short term and weathering of coal shale zone progresses rapidly. Therefore, the prediction of tunnel collapse is not easy in the coal shale zone and the great portion of tunnel collapse takes place in a moment. From a view point of strength, after twelve hours form result of point load test strength of coal shale decreases by fifty six percent when coal shale zone come into contact with ground water. The standard reinforcement design of coal shale fractured zone was presented in the paper.

  • Gas hydrate is an ice-like crystalline compound that forms at low temperature and high pressure conditions. It consists of gas molecules surrounded by cages of water molecules. Although hydrate formation was initially found to pose serious flow-assurance problems in the gas pipelines or facilities, gas hydrates have much potential for application in a wide variety of areas, such as natural gas storage and transportation. Its very high gas-to-solid ratio and remarkably stable characteristics makes it an attractive candidate for such use. However, it needs to be researched further since it has a slow and complex formation process and a high production cost. In this study, formation experiments have been carried out to investigate the effects of pressure, temperature, water-to-storage volume ratio, SDS concentration, heat transfer and stirring. The results are presented to clarify the relationship between the formation process and each factor, which consequently will help find the most efficient production method.

본 연구에서 사용한 ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System)은 data driven model(자료에 기반을 둔 모형)의 하나로 다음과 같은 장점을 가진다.

  • In this study, a two-dimensional model for identifying areas of erosion and deposition over a basin was developed based on the mass balance principle in a distributed model. The program consists of three steps: (a) estimation of soil erosion; (b) determination of flow amount and direction; and (c) estimation of mass balance. Soil erosion was estimated with USLE. A single-direction (SF) and a multi-direction flow algorithm (MF) were applied to estimate slope length (L). The Maximum Downhill Slope Method (MDS) and the Neighborhood Method (NBH) were used to estimate the slope degree (S). Sediment transport resulting from eroded soil was estimated using Ferro's (1998) and Swift's (2000) sediment delivery ratio (DR). The model was validated by comparing the predicted sediment yields for three basins with measured data. The developed algorithm showed that Ferro's DR method combined with the MDS and MF produced the best agreement with the dredging records of three agricultural reservoir basins in Korea.

  • This research was conducted to elucidate the optimum conditions for the antibacterial activity of konjak jelly using the evolutionary operation-factorial design technique. In the first set of experiments, concentration of a coagulation agent, soaking liquid, and temperature of water were set to 0.4%, $0.6{\times}10^{-2}N$, and $65^{\circ}C$ as a central point, respectively. The highest antibacterial activity was acquired at E21, in which the number of bacteria was 1.25 log cfu/g. Because the code of changes in the main effect was (-), it could be decided that the central point of the first set was not the optimum point. Although antibacterial activity in the second set was improved, the values of the main effect were higher than that of changes in the mean effect. The central point of third set was concentration of coagulation agent 0.8%, concentration of soaking liquid $1.0{\times}10^{-2}N$, and temperature of water $65^{\circ}C$. It was found that the antibacterial activity of central point in the third set was highest among all the tested set. Further, all the necessary conditions were appropriate to reach the optimum condition. The antibacterial activity of the central point in third set was more than 1,000 times higher than that of E11, in first set.

  • The paved areas in nonpoint source are highly polluted landuses because of high imperviousness and high pollutant mass emissions from vehicle activities. Particularly, the metal pollutants are a big issue in the paved area. It is usually washed-off during storms by adsorbing on sediments or soluble status. Therefore, this research was achieved for understanding the characteristics of metal pollutants in stormwater runoff in highways. Five monitoring sites were equipped with an automatic rainfall gage and an automatic flow meter. This manuscripts will summarize the washoff characteristics of metal pollutants and its concentration changes during storms. Usually first flush phenomenon was observed for all of the storm events and visibly confirmed with hydro- and polluto-graphs. Also it was coincided with the tendency of particulates and organic matters. The decrease rate per total reduced amount for metals during initial 30-min storm duration was obtained on 80%. The result may be able to use for determining the economical treatment criteria for stormwater runoff in highways.

  • We analyzed glycerol using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and compared the separation resolution of some mobile phases. When acetonitrile:distilled water (85:15 v/v) was used as a mobile phase, the band of glycerol on the TLC was more distinctly and rapidly separated. Using TLC analysis, we prepared a calibration curve for the glycerol concentration vs. the area of the glycerol band in which the glycerol concentration of the x-axis was converted into a log-scale ranging from 3.0 to 0.0625 (%, w/v). Based on this calibration curve, the residual glycerol concentration (0.2 [%, w/v]) in biodiesel was determined successfully using TLC analysis. When the results of the TLC analysis were compared with those of a chemical and enzymatic assay, the results were fairly similar. We conclude that TLC without additional analytical instruments can be used as an alternative method for the quantitative analysis of the concentration of glycerol in biodiesel.
