Development of Dielectric Constant Sensor for Measurementof Lubricant Properties (윤활유 물성 측정을 위한 유전상수 센서 개발)

  • This study presents the development of dielectric constant sensors to measure lubricant properties. The lubricant oil sensor is used to measure oil properties and machine conditions. Various condition monitoring methods are applied to diagnose machine conditions. Machine condition monitoring using oil sensors has advantage over other machine condition monitoring methods. The fault conditions can be noticed at the early stages by the detection of wear particles using oil sensors. Therefore, it provides an early warning in the failure procedure. A variety of oil sensors are applied to check the machine condition. Among all oil sensors, only one sensor can measure the tendency of several properties such as acidity and water content. A dielectric constant sensor is also used to measure various oil properties; therefore, it is very useful. The dielectric constant is the ratio of the capacitance of a capacitor using that material as a dielectric to that of a similar capacitor using vacuum as its dielectric. The dielectric constant has an effect on water content, contaminants, base oil, additive, and so forth. In this study, the dielectric constant sensor is fabricated using MEMS process. In the fabrication process, the shape, gap of the electrode array, and thickness of the insulation material are considered to improve the sensitivity of the sensor.

  • In this paper, we present measurement method of the amount of used piped water and the communications environment for automatic piped water meter reading. The existing piped water meter reading which is carried out by the human in person by monitoring the amount of use and recording make the problem of an error of the figure and being short of staffed to carry out piped water meter reading. To solve the existing problem in this paper, the amount of used piped water is converted into data type by Photo Interrupt Sensor, and IEEE 802.15.4 Protocol is used to confirm the measurement in remote place.

  • Remote water meter monitoring is essential in U-city applications, whoγe digital water meter is a key component. While there are several kinds of water meters, the way to use has sensors has the merit of better preciseness, but the drawback of more power consumption. In this paper, we suggest an advanced sensing algorithm to diminish the power consumption while keeping the quality of preciseness. Our approach is to use less precise hall sensor for detecting the start of water impeller rotation with lower power consumption. During the rotation, a high precision hall sensor is used to meter the amount of water consumption. Our algorithm is analyzed to get 2 times lower power consumption than the previous algorithm.

  • This study was conducted the management of a water level through the water sensor, the waterline and the drain applied to the rice paddy. The gateway transfers the information to oneM2M(: Machine to Machine) platform of IoT(: Internet of Thing) standards to the height of the water level sensor information through the LoRa connection. Depending on the water level requested by the IoT platform, the gateway is to On or Off waterline or drain motor switch and send the information of the water level sensor. IoT platform performs the intelligent application function according to the condition of the water level.

  • Recently, interest in concrete quality has been increasing. It is important to manage these factors due to unit-water content and aggregate quality that affect concrete quality. In this study, the unit-water content of concrete was measured through an economical, easy-to-measure, and portable Frequency Domain Reflecmetry sensor among micro-methods that compensated for the shortcomings of existing concrete unit-water content measurement methods. As a result of predicting the unit-water content, the accuracy within the ± 10 kg/m3 error range was confirmed to be more than 72% of all factors. In order to ensure high accuracy, it is considered necessary to conduct an experiment to evaluate the unit-water content by conducting additional experiments according to other variables and factors.

  • 농업적 가뭄은 토양의 수분함량(토양수분)이 마르기 시작하면서 식생 활동에 영향을 주는 것으로 정의할 수 있다. 광범위한 농업적 가뭄을 판별하기 위해 인공위성 자료를 토대로 토양수분을 산정하고 이를 이용해 가뭄지수를 산정하고, 가뭄 상태를 판별한다. 기존 인공위성 기반의 토양수분의 경우, microwave sensor에서 제공되는 밝기온도(brightness temperature)를 통해 토양수분을 추정하는 방식이 일반적으로 활용되었다. 하지만, microwave sensor에서 제공되는 자료들의 공간해상도가 10 km 이상이기 때문에, 한반도나 더 작게는 유역 단위, 행정 단위별 가뭄 분석을 하기에는 적합하지 않다. 이에 본 연구에서는 공간 해상도 500m의 광학센서(visible infrared imaging radiometer suite sensor (VIIRS))에서 제공되는 지표면 온도(land surface temperature)와 지표 반사도(land surface albedo) 자료들을 조합하여 토양수분을 산정하는 방식을 제안하고, 산출된 토양수분으로 농업적 가뭄을 모니터링한 결과를 제시하고자 한다. 기존의 microwave sensor로 산출된 토양수분 결과 값과의 비교 및 검증을 통해 광학센서를 통한 토양수분 산출물의 한반도 내 적용성을 확인할 수 있다.

  • A TDM-multiplexed fiber optic pressure/temperature sensor system utilizing fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometers as sensing devices was developed and applied to measure water level variations and temperature variations. The maximum measurement speed of the system without saving measurement data is 4500 times per second and the response time of the sensors is thought to be ~ms. The difference between the theoretical value and the measured value for the scale factor of water level sensor and temperature sensor was +13.7%, -18% respectively. The nonlinearity of the sensors after calibration was less than 1%. The sensor system was applied to verify the capability of measuring the temperature variations and water level variations at a high speed.

  • Sodium hypochlorite is used worldwide as a water disinfectant and in bleaching agent. Sodium hypochlorite applied to water initially undergoes hydrolysis to form free chlorine consisting of hypochlorous acid(HOCl) and hypochlorite ion($OCl^-$). For free chlorine determination, an electrochemical method is simple due to the electroactivity of free chlorine; it measures current and is free of most reagents. Amperometric free chlorine sensor has been developed with gold (Au)-based electrode. The 3-electrode free chlorine sensor whose working and counter electrodes were Pt exhibited excellent response to HClO at +400mV vs. Ag/AgCl/sat. KCl. In addition, the use of a pH error correction algorithm provided a reliable measurement of residual free chlorine in water sample without any pretreatment in the normal pH range(pH 6~8) of municipal water supply. The free chlorine sensor installed in on-line monitoring system could be used to continually monitor the level of residual free chlorine in real samples.

  • This work demonstrates the design and evaluation of Aqua-Aware, a lightweight miniaturized light emitting diode (LED) based underwater compact sensor node which is used to obtain different characteristics of the underwater environment. Two optical sensor nodes have been designed, developed, and evaluated for a short and medium link range called as Aqua-Aware short range (AASR) and Aqua-Aware medium range (AAMR), respectively. The hardware and software implementation of proposed sensor node, algorithms, and trade-offs have been discussed in this paper. The underwater environment is emulated by introducing different turbulence effects such as air bubbles, waves and turbidity in a 4-m water tank. In clear water, the Aqua-Aware achieved a data rate of 0.2 Mbps at communication link up to 2-m. The Aqua-Aware was able to achieve 0.2 Mbps in a turbid water of 64 NTU in the presence of moderate water waves and air bubbles within the communication link range of 1.7-m. We have evaluated the luminous intensity, packet success rate and bit error rate performance of the proposed system obtained by varying the various medium characteristics.

Suitability Examination of Flex sensor and FBG Sensor for Levee Safety Management (제방 안전관리를 위한 Flex센서와 FBG센서의 적용성 검토)

  • Collapse of the levee surrounding structure(culvert) accounts for l0 % of collapse factors of the river levees. In particular, in 2002, the levee collapse that happened at "Nakdong River" at flood usually happened around culverts. This levee collapse has mechanism that the cavity expands with internal erosion at flood after the pore and cavity are formed between culvert and levee copula which are heterogeneity material. The study regarding the cavity or flowing detection around a culvert for safety management of a river levee is in the proceeding. In this study, the characteristic of two sensors could be figured out through an experiment about displacement measure of Flex sensor and FBG sensor and the decision of more suitable sensor was possible for safety supervision of river levee. According to an experiment result, several characteristics of FBG sensor could be known in consistency of the measure data and minute displacement measure part regarding displacement measure and this characteristic may supplement a shortcoming of Flex sensor at this time.
