The current of the water body is very important information for the water quality management on reservoirs. It is applied to hydraulics and water quality model for simulation. In this regard, the current characteristic of water body is the basic information that can be used to predict various conditions. However, it is very slow flowing and is affected by the reservoir operations and external factors. As such, an accurate measurement of the current is a difficult problem. In order to measure the water current, we constructed a drifter. According to the result of flow survey at Yongdam reservoir, 5m and 10 m depth layer flow was investigated from the upstream to the downstream, during a flood period. Maximum flow rate of 5 m depth is 13.8 cm $sec^{-1}$ and 10 m depth shows 4 cm $sec^{-1}$, respectively. But 2m depth shows a backward flow and maximum flow rate is 4 cm $sec^{-1}$. Density currents flow plays the role of back flow in reservoirs. Flow velocity in the reservoir was measured in the range of 1~2 cm $sec^{-1}$, at normal flow season, and the flow direction were different for each survey. This phenomenon occurs because the reservoir volume is very large, compared to the inflow and outflow volume.

Multivariate statistical approaches to classify sampling sites with measuring their similarity by water quality data. For empirical study, data of two years at the 9 sampling sites with the combination of 2 depth levels and 7 important variables related to water quality is collected in reservoir. The similarity among sampling sites is measured with Euclidean distances of water quality related variables and they are classified by hierarchical clustering method. The clustered sites are discussed with principal component variables in the view of the geographical characteristics of them and reducing the number of measuring sites. Nine sampling sites are clustered as follows; One cluster of 5, 6, and 7 sampling sites shows the characteristic of low water depth and main stream of water. The sites of 2 and 4 are clustered into the same group by characteristics of hydraulics which come from that of main stream. But their changing pattern of water quality looks like different since the site of 2 is near to dam. The sampling sites of 3, 8, and 9 are individually positioned due to the different tributary.
This study was conducted to optimize a unidirectional flushing program in distribution pipes by analysis of water pressure, velocity, quality, and other parameters during flushing. As a result, correlation coefficient between flushed pipe length and the flushing duration was obtained $R^2=0.83$ and the equation $Y_{Time}=0.0571{\cdot}X_{Pipe\;length}+4.7648$ for 10 pipes. The averaged flushing velocity in the pipes, 1.1 m/s, was enough to remove loose deposits on the inner wall of the pipes. 3 of 92 water samples taken during flushing met the National Drinking Water Quality Standard for Fe and Mn, but not for Al. Turbidity less than 1 NTU is suggested for the appropriate criteria to finish flushing in pipes. The coefficient of determination ($R^2$) between turbidity and TSS was 0.95 and the equation was induced as $Y_{TSS}=1.2068{\cdot}X_{Turbidity}$. The amount of removed deposits could be estimated from the turbidity data of discharged water in field because turbidity and TSS in the discharged water is highly correlated.

The sea water and the soil of surface zone in lagoon have many physical relations between each other by both physical phenomena such as tidal motion and wave action, and activity of a creature which lives in soil zone. The soil zone has an activity of filtering the sea water at lowering tide and also the organic materials in sea water are supplied into the soil. And small creatures such as small crab eat organic materials. Usually the surface zone of lagoon becomes under the sea water in two times of a day and also is coming in two times under the sunshine and it becomes dries up conditions. Authors made the field observation at Sanbannse lagoon in Tokyo bay in several times between 2002 to 2004. The observation has been done in a half period of tide in October and November 2002 and also full tide observation is made in July 2, 2003 in summer and November 26, 2003 in autumn. In 2004, three times observations of full tide has been made in three times as June 22, July 20 and December 14. This report is the summary of results on these observations focusing on the soil surface zone and sea water at under ground and wave breaking zone.
The main objective of this study is to investigate experimentally the two-phase flow characteristics in terms of the direct contact condensation of a steam-water stratified flow in a horizontal rectangular channel. Experiments were performed for both air-water and steam-water flows with a cocurrent flow configuration. This work presents the local temperature and velocity distributions in a water layer as well as the interfacial characteristics of both condensing and noncondensing fluid flows. The gas superficial velocity varied from 1.2 m/s to 2.0 m/s for air and from 1.2 m/s to 2.8 m/s for steam under a fixed inlet water superficial velocity of 0.025 m/s. Some advanced measurement methods have been applied to measure the local characteristics of the water layer thickness, temperature, and velocity fields in a horizontal stratified flow. The instantaneous velocity and temperature fields inside the water layer were measured using laser-induced fluorescence and particle image velocimetry, respectively. In addition, the water layer thickness was measured through an ultrasonic method.
Most of surface water ways in Egypt suffer from the infestation of aquatic weeds especially submerged ones which cause lots of problems for the open channels and the water structures such as increasing water losses, obstructing the water flow, and reducing the efficiency of the water structures. Accurate simulation of the water flow behavior in such channels is very essential for water distribution decision makers. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been widely utilized in the past ten years in civil engineering applications for the simulation and prediction of the different physical phenomena and has proven its capabilities in the different fields. The present study aims towards introducing the use of ANN technique to model and predict the impact of the existence of submerged aquatic weeds on the hydraulic performance of open channels. Specifically the current paper investigates utilizing the ANN technique in developing a simulation and prediction model for the flow behavior in an open channel experiment that simulates the existence of submerged weeds as branched flexible elements. This experiment was considered as an example for implementing the same methodology and technique in a real open channel system. The results of current manuscript showed that ANN technique was very successful in simulating the flow behavior of the pre-mentioned open channel experiment with the existence of the submerged weeds. In addition, the developed ANN models were capable of predicting the open channel flow behavior in all the submerged weeds' cases that were considered in the ANN development process.

Interest in application of ultraviolet light technology for primary disinfection of potable water in drinking water treatment plants has increased significantly in recent years. The efficacy of disinfection processes in water purification systems is governed by several key factors, including reactor hydraulics, disinfectant chemistry, and microbial inactivation kinetics. The objective of this work was to develop a computational fluid dynamics(CFD) model to predict velocity fields, mass transport, chlorine decay, and microbial inactivation in a continuous flow reactor. In this paper, It describe the how to design optimal UV disinfection device for ground water, BWT and rainwater. Spring shape instrument silver coated located in inner side of disinfection chamber. It make lead the active flowing movement target water and maximize disinfection performance. To search the optimal design method, it was performed computer simulation with 3D-CFD discrete ordinates model and manufactured prototype. Using proposed design method, performed simulation and proved satisfied performance.

Understanding of the hydraulics of flow is very important to support the management of river. The cross-sectional area, average velocity, flow depth and discharge can be regarded as a power function each other. In this paper the flow of Bocheong stream basin is experimentally studied. The correlation analysis was performed between observed hydraulic factors by the power type function. The constants resulted from the correlation analysis were calculated by the geomorphologic characteristics of the watershed using the power type function. The correlation coefficients between the hydraulic factors were appeared close to unit having strong correlationship. The two conditions of equality of the continuity equation were analysed, and the conditions were found to be good results. From these results the observed hydraulic data of Bocheong stream basin can be concluded as a reliable data. The correlation coefficients between the parameters of the hydraulic characteristics and geomorphologic factors were found to be close to unit.
In order to evaluate primary clarifier performance on TSS(Total Suspended solids) removal, four different sampling sets were collected as part of this study; (1) weekly test, (2) the diurnal sampling, (3) the settling velocity distribution sampling. Primary effluent TSS($TSS_{PE}$) and non settleable TSS($TSS_{NON}$) concentrations were averaged 160 and 75.5 mg/L, respectively. These data suggest approximately 85 mg/L TSS can be removed more. Average $TSS_{NON}$, $TSS_{PE}$, and Dispersed TSS(DTSS) concentrations(75.5, 160, and 104 mg/L, respectively) suggest that 28.5 mg/L of TSS difference attributable to poor flocculation, whereas 56 mg/L of TSS difference attributable to poor hydraulics within primary clarifier. In this study, equations for maximum TSS removal efficiency and effluent TSS concentration were suggested and compared with experimented data.
