Single-drop microextraction (SDME) is an extraction methodology where the drop plays an essential role as extracts. It was evaluated for the GC-MS determination of nerve agents, one class of the chemical warfare agents (CWAs). Since these nerve agents are highly toxic, it is important to detect the nerve agents in the environmental samples. Several affecting factors including extraction solvents, stirring rate, extraction time, and amounts of salt were optimized. The limit of detections (LODs) were 0.1 - 10 ng/mL and the relative standard deviations (RSDs%, n=5) were in the range of 6.3% to 9.0% for four nerve agents. Without pretreatment of the environmental samples, 5-103 fold enrichments and 48-100% recovery were accomplished. These results demonstrated the feasibility of this method for on-site and off-site analysis of water sample collected from suspicious CWAs site.
This paper is a study of the water sensor using a coaxial cavity resonator. This water sensor uses the resonant frequency variation of the coaxial cavity resonator when there is a water drop of the used coaxial cavity resonator. And we made resonant frequencies by controlling the input voltage of the oscillator which will be mainly resonated in the coaxial cavity resonator. First, we made the coaxial cavity resonator by simulating the resonator structure with the proposed size and we expect the resonant frequency from the simulation and then we decide the VCO from the result. Second, we made the water drop detecting sensor circuit and measured the water sensor. We decided the size of the resonator as inner conductor 5mm, outer conductor 14mm, the height of resonator 9.5mm, and the height of the glass 6mm from the simulated result. The simulated resonant frequencies are 3.09GHz and we made the VCO frequency ranges from 2.56GHz to 3.2GHz. The measured resonant frequency is 2.97GHz and the return loss is under -8. 4 dB at the center frequency. When the water is dropped on the glass of the resonator, the voltage has changed from 690mV to 145mV. It shows the proposed water sensor can detect the water by the resonant frequency variation of the resonator.
This study was performed to understand the exogenous-water-drop induced thermomechanical effect on the tooth in the free-running Er:YAG laser mode for the proper use of water as a laser energy absorber and coolant in dentistry. The ree-running Er:YAG laser was used in the dental hard tissue ablation study. A Microjet system was employed to dispense precise water drops. Ablation rate, recoil momentum, and temperature rise in the pulp cavity were measured with and without an exogenous water drop on the tooth surface. Exogenous water enhanced ablation rate in the thick tooth in which the ablation rate on the dry surface does not increase linearly but shows plateau. Optimal exogenous water volume was shifted from 2 nl to 4 nl as the laser energy was increased from 48 mJ to 145 mJ. The magnitude of the recoil momentum was increased as the volume of exogenous water increased. The results of this study suggest that we must pay attention to the recoil momentum or recoil pressure study or the optimal and safe usage of water in the dental treatment because these mechanical effects depend on the volume of exogenous water on the tooth surface.
The cooling water system for the PEFP 20 MeV proton accelerator was established and tested to obtain the precise resonance frequency of DTL through the temperature control of cooling water. The water temperature in the main flow loop was manipulated by adjusting the proportion of hot water returning from the DTL structures through the heat exchanger loop. Due to low duty factor operation and insufficient cooling loop installation of the DTL tanks, the manual mode operation was applied to maintain the DTL temperatures close to their resonance temperatures. The optimized process conditions with flow balancing and pressure drop in the DTL cooling systems are reported.
The main object of this study is to investigate the collection characteristics of wet-type multi-layered and multi-staged porous plate system experimentally. The experiment is carried out to analyze the characteristics of pressure drop and collection efficiency for the present system with the experimental parameters such as water spray, inlet velocity, stage number and inlet particle concentration, etc. In results, for the present system of wet-type, the pressure drop represents 158 $mmH_2O$ higher 3% than that in dry-type at 5 stage and $v_{in}$=3.53 m/s. In case of 5 stage, $v_{in}$=3.53 m/s and water spray 250 ml/min, the collection efficiency of the present system becomes significantly higher as 99.7% comparing to that of the conventional wet-type scrubber. Additionally, for 5 stage and 250 ml/min, $SO_2$ removal efficiencies decrease with the increment of inlet velocity representing 75.0, 62.5, 50.0%, at $v_{in}$=2.12, 2.82, 3.53 m/s, respectively.
Numerical investigation has been conducted to figure out flow behavior and pressure drop characteristics of spirally corrugated steel pipe which is widely used in civil, industrial and agricultural field owing to many advantages such as good corrosion resistance and durability, strength, easy and quick installation. Also the poly-ethylene coating spirally corrugated steel pipe has the long life under condition of sea water immerged. In the present study, flow behavior in the spirally corrugated pipe and influence of P/d/sub h/(ratio of wave pitch to hydraulic diameter) to pressure drop are investigated by CFD with various Reynolds number. And also friction factor is estimated by pressure drop obtained by flow analysis. According to computation results, the flow runs spirally up and down along the spiral corrugation in the vicinity of wall, but the effect of spiral corrugation disappears in core region of pipe. As P/d/sub h/ becomes small, more pressure drop occurs in spirally corrugated Pipe. Besides, friction factor augmentation becomes much larger as Re increases. In case of p/d/sub h/=0.38, Pressure drop and friction factor of spirally corrugated pipe are about four times larger than smooth pipe at Re: 1.46×10/sup 6/.
In the present study, the air-side heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of the fin-tube and PF heat exchangers have been experimentally investigated under the cooling standard condition. Fin type of PF heat exchanger is a triangler and squarer form. The experimental data of the slit fin-tube and two kinds of PF heat exchangers are measured using the air-enthalpy calorimeter and the constant temperature water bath. As the inlet air velocity increases, the heat transfer rate and pressure drop of the heat exchanger increased. The heat transfer rate and pressure drop of PF-2 heat exchanger of the squarer fin is larger than that of PF-1 heat exchanger of the triangler fin. As the inlet air temperature increases, the heat transfer rate decreases and the pressure drop is nearly uniform.
The extraction mechanism of Zinc from aqueous solution with D2EHPA (Di-2-Ethylhexyl Phosphoric Acid) dissolved in Kerosene was studied by the single drop method. The effect of the concentrations of reactant species on the extraction rate, Zinc and hydrogen ion in the continuous phase and D2EHPA in the dispersed, was studied for the drop rise period by the experiment. Then a theoretical analysis on the basis of Handlos-Baron modle was carried out. It becomes clear that the extraction rate was controlled by the neutral complex forming reaction at the drop surface from both analysises. From effect of the concentrations of species on the reaction rate, the extraction rate at the drop surface is considered to be as follows. $${\gamma}_{pn}=9.42{\times}10^{-7}\;\frac{[Zn^{2+}][(HR)_2]^{3/2}}{[H^+]^{3/2}}$$
Condensation of vapor on solid inherently accompanies generation of liquid drops on the solid surface. However, these drops prevent the solid surface from directly contacting the saturated vapor, thus causing thermal resistance. This work investigates a novel mechanism for enhancing the condensation process, in which the condensed drops are rapidly removed from a solid surface by imposing vibration on them. In the experiments, a water drop pendant from a solid surface is vibrated at a fixed frequency while increasing the vibration amplitude. Upon repeating the experiments using various frequencies, it is revealed that there exist resonant frequencies at which the minimum vibration amplitudes inducing a fall-off of the pendant drops are remarkably less than those at neighboring frequencies. These frequencies are supposed to correspond to the resonant frequencies for different modes of drop shape oscillations. They are compared with the resonant frequencies predicted by relatively simple analyses, and the factors causing discrepancy between then are discussed.
