Heat transfer and pressure drop on the air side of a plate-louvered fin heat exchanger with new shape of louver fin have been investigated experimentally. Water is employed inside the flat tube to transfer heat with air for convenience. This problem is of particular interest in the design of a plate-louvered heat exchanger. The effect of air flow rate, water flow rate and water temperature on pressure drop as well as heat transfer in air side are studied in detail. The present results showed a good agreement qualitatively with the previous results in general. Based on the experimental data, f-factor and j -factor correlations of the present louvered-fin are suggested. It is also found that heat transfer could be enhanced with new shape of louver fin, compared with the conventional louvered-fin, while the f-factor remains unchanged.

The configurations of the evaporator and condenser of a water chiller can be determined from the trade-off between the heat transfer area, which is related to the capital cost and the pressure drop, which is associated with the operational cost. In this study, the design of the water chiller focused on minimizing the water pressure drop of both condenser and evaporator for given cooling capacity and requirements. Commercial enhanced tubes were employed to simulate real-life conditions. The results of the present analysis were compared with those obtained by HTRI software for verifying them. The results indicated that a reduction in the water pressure drop, which is associated with the short length of a tube, can be effected by decreasing the number of tube passes and increasing the number of tubes and the tube diameter. However, using a large number of tubes with smaller diameters can reduce the capital cost because the tubes are short. The reduction of the capital cost is due to the fact that a small-diameter tube has low internal thermal resistance and hence contributes to a decrease in the overall thermal resistance per unit length.

An experimental study has been performed to investigate the air-side capacity and pressure drop of the fin-tube heat exchanger for a fan coil unit under a cooling condition. The experimental data of five kinds of slit fin-tube heat exchangers were measured using an air-enthalpy calorimeter and a constant temperature water bath. Cooling capacities at the air and water rating flow rates were larger at the lower inlet water temperature. With increasing the water flow rate, the cooling capacity increased at the constant rate. Under the lower inlet water temperature, since the condensate was generated more on the fin-tube surface, the air-side pressure drop of the heat exchanger was larger.

The objective of this study is to investigate experimentally the characteristics of pressure drop in SMX type motionless mixers. The motionless mixers used are SMX-O, SMX-H, SMXL-O and SMXL-H ones. The SMX-H and SMXL-H mixer elements have been designed to reduce the pressure drop as compared with the SMX-O and SMXL-O ones. The Reynolds number based on the bulk average properties of the water is in a range of 5000 to 13000. The pressure drops across the motionless mixers are measured and the friction factors are calculated using the pressure drop data. On the average, the friction factors of the SMX-H and SMXL-H mixers are about 8% and 15% lower than those of the SMX-O and SMXL-O ones. In addition, the proposed correlations from the experimental data for the friction factor are presented and compared with those obtained from the literature.
In this paper, the correlation of Pressure drop about the Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid was investigated experimentally for vibrating intravascular lung assist device (VIVLAD) and we determined correlation equation to make a prediction about Pressure drop for designing VIVLAD. Design conditions to predict the pressure drop of the modules were studied through an experimental modeling before inserting the artificial lung assist device into as venous. Experiments were performed by distilled water, glycerol/water mixed solution(40% glycerol) of Newtonian fluids. and the bovine blood of non-Newtonian fluids. These fluids were flowed outside and parallel of hollow fiber membranes. Also we measured pressure drop according to the number of the fiber membranes which ware inserted into the inside diameter of shell of 3 cm, and developed the prediction equations by curve fitting method based on correlation between the experimental pressure drop and the frontal area or the packing density of device. The result showed that the Pressure drop and the friction factor of the water/glycerol mixed solution were similar to that of bovine blood. It was showed that the water/glycerol mixed solution (40% glycerol) could be used for measuring the pressure drop and the friction factor instead of the bovine blood. Also, we could estimate the prediction equation of pressure drop and friction factor as the function of Packing density at the number of hollow fibers. We obtained the reliance of the prediction equations because the pressure drop and the friction factor measured from the experiments were similar to that from the prediction equation. These results may be used to further usefulness for the design of VIVLAD.

A model for a pressure drop of water vapor flow across tube banks in a horizontal tube absorber of an absorption chiller/heater using LiBr solution as a working fluid has been developed based on a commercial 20RT(70kW) absorption chiller/heater. The numerical results show that the characteristic of the pressure drop in the shell side of the horizontal tube absorber is completely different from that in a conventional shell and tube heat exchanger. Especially, solution film thickness has significant influence on the vapor pressure drop in the horizontal tube absorber. In addition, the effects by the tube diameters, the longitudinal pitch to diameter ratio, and Reynolds number of the vapor flow, on the vapor pressure drop have been studied to evaluate the compactness of tube absorber. It was found that the vapor pressure drop decreases as tube diameter increases, the longitudinal pitch to diameter ratio increases, and Reynolds number of the vapor flow decreases. A comparison of the present study results with well-established experimental and numerical results showed a good overall agreement.
Pressure distribution around rotating impeller blades in centrifugal pump has been main issue for design of efficient and high performance automotive water pump. In addition, pressure losses of inlet water pipes should be considered to reduce additional pressure drop and design high performance engine cooling system. In this paper, pressure distribution inside water pump and pressure drop between inlet and outlet of water pump are investigated numerically to design plastic water pump for clean diesel engine application. And the inlet geometry of water pump was considered to analysis the effect of inlet water pipe geometry on pressure distribution around impeller blades and outlet pressure. The prediction results are compared with experimental data to validate and determine optimal operation condition without water pump cavitation. Major design parameters such as blade angle, volute geometry, system pressure, and coolant flow rate are considered to confirm applying possibility of plastic blades to the clean diesel engine.

Experiments have been performed to find out the effect of the mixing port length of Y-jet atomizers on the spray performance, using air and water as the test fluids. Water and air flow rates and drop sizes were measured at each injection pressure condition for different mixing port length. The air flow rate was almost unaffected by the change of the mixing port length. However, the water flow rate was relatively susceptible to the change of the mixing port length. The mixing point pressure was very much influenced by the mixing port length. Variations of spatial distribution of Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD, $D_{32}$) and the cross-section-averaged SMD ($D_{32,m}$) with different mixing port length and air/water mass flow rate ratio were examined. Generally, when the mixing port length was reduced, the mean drop size decreased and became spatially even.

The present study concerns the stern slamming load of container carriers, with stern bulb arrangement variation. First, a series of wedge drop tests were conducted using simple wedge models with fixed deadrise angles, and tests with the cross-section models of practical container carrier sterns were followed. The deadrise angle of the simple wedge ranged from 0° to 10°. The pressure measurement results of the simple wedge drop tests were distributed between empirical formula and analytic solution, so the experimental setup was validated. In the cases of practical hull cross-sections, the water entry of the bulb prior to that of the transom resulted in characteristic water film generation and delayed pressure peak appearance. The trapped air between the bulbs damped the pressure in the twin skeg hull case, reducing the pressure peak and causing the pressure oscillation during water entry.
Pressure drop could happen in the water distribution systems due to pipe breaks or maintenance. The pressure drop causes the water service shutdown and nodal water demands should be reduced in some areas. The conventional analysis method of water distribution systems can not consider the change of nodal water demands caused by these pressure drops. This study is to investigate the variation of nodal water demands according to the nodal water pressure and its effect on the analysis of water distribution systems. For these purpose, one real water service district was selected as a study area. As a result, nodal water demand patterns according to the water pressure could be suggested. Also, we could confirm that the suggested new analysis method for the water distribution systems which considering water pressure drops could be more reliable than the conventional method.
