활성 탈질미생물 Bio-bead의 특성

  • 질소, 인 등의 영양소 제거를 위한 고정화 미생물을 이용한 새로운 BNR 시스템 개발을 위해 탈질능력이 뛰어난 균주를 순수분리하고 여러 담체를 사용하여 제조된 활성 bio-bead의 특성을 알아보았다. 4종류의 탈질 능력이 뛰어난 균주를 순수분리 하였고, 12% PVA 담체로 만든 bead가 가장 좋은 탈질능력을 보였다. Cell loading 농도는 200 mg/ml일 때 bead의 활성이 최적을 나타내었으며, bead의 size에 의한 탈질효율에는 유의적 차이가 없었다. 제조된 bead는 약 4 batch실험 후 최대 탈질율을 나타내었으며, 약 25번의 batch실험까지는 탈질능력을 그대로 유지하고 cell leaking 양도 약 $10^3$ CFU/ml 정도 였으나, 그 이후로는 bead 형태도 변하면서 cell leaking이 증가하고 탈질능력도 감소되었다.

Applications of Sugarcane by-products to mitigate climate change in Ethiopia

  • Climate change is one of the major issues in both the developed and developing world. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emission is one of the implications for climate change. It is increasing rapidly. Although the emission is much less when compared to the rest of the world, Ethiopia has also faced this global issue. The major source for GHG emission in Ethiopia is agriculture. Therefore, the agriculture sector has to be given more attention in Ethiopia. To overcome the problem, Climate-Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy has been initiated. One way of executing this target is to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly pathway to use agricultural byproducts. Sugarcane is one of the major plants in Ethiopia. Its byproducts are bagasse, molasses, and press mud. Since it is a waste product, it is economical and creates a sustainable and green environment by reducing GHG emissions. Sugarcane byproducts have versatile applications like as fuel, as cement replacing material, as a mitigation for expansive soils, as biosorbent for the treatment of water and wastewater and also as a wood material. However, Ethiopia has not used this byproduct massively as it is readily available. This paper reviews the possible applications of sugarcane byproducts to mitigate climate change.

동절기 하수처리장에서 효율적인 질소제거를 위한 최적 HRT조합 도출에 관한 연구 (A Study on Optimum HRT Combination for Efficient Nitrogen Removal at WWTP in Winter Days)

  • 대부분의 하수처리장에서는 동절기에 수온저하로 인한 질산화 미생물의 활동저하 때문에 질소제거에 어려움을 많이 겪고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 하수처리 시뮬레이션 프로그램인 GPS-X를 사용하여 각조의 HRT를 변화시켜 저 수온시 효율적인 질소제거를 위한 HRT의 조합을 도출하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서 도출한 최적의 HRT 조합은 0.3 hr/0.5 hr/1.36 hr/4.84 hr(PreAx/An/Ax/Ox)이고 이때의 T-N 제거율은 51.4%, $NH_4^+$-N는 57.3%의 제거율을 보였다.

천연 제올라이트와 제올라이트 담체를 이용한 NH4+-N 이온교환 특성 평가 (Evaluation of NH4+-N Ion Exchange Property using Natural Zeolite and Zeolite Carrier)

  • The ammonium ion exchange characteristics of natural zeolite were investigated to remove ${NH_4}^+-N$. The effect of water temperature, particle size and competitive cation on the exchange capacity was examined. Ammonium ion exchange capacity tended to decrease when the temperature increased from $25^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$. Exchange capacity was increased according to the particle size of natural zeolite comes to be small. Batch isotherm experiments were conducted for measuring ammonium ion exchange capacity. The ion exchange capacity was well described either by the Langmuir isotherm model or by the Freundlich isotherm model. The ammonium ion exchange capacity ($q_m$) of zeolite carrier can be calculated $11.744mg-{NH_4}^+/g$-carrier. The ion exchange capacity of manufactured zeolite carrier was showed a similar tendency as ion exchange capacity of powder-sized natural zeolite. Therefore, zeolite carrier can be used for increasing of nitrogen removal efficiency in the wastewater treatment plants.

수생식물을 이용한 수질정화에 관한 연구 (Aquatic Plants for Wastewater Treatment)

  • Water parsley(Oenanthe javanica(Blume) DC) was raised with varying population density(S) in the laboratory aquarium unit to determine the growth equation. The population density was measure after 7 days. The resultant growth curve was well fit to the equation 1/S = A+B (1/S0) with a high correlation coefficient ($R^2$ = 0.999). The maximum specific absorption rate was $9.011 \times 10^{-5}$ kg $NO_x-N/kg$ water parsley$\cdot$day and $1.31 \times 10^{-5}$ kg $PO_4-P/kg$ water parsley$\cdot$day when the average population density was $2.62 kg/m^2$. The relationship between population density and nutrient absorption rate, the absorption rate of $NO_x-N$ was 5.04~5.24 mg/l$\cdot$day when the population density was $7.51~10.0 $mg/m^2\cdot day$ and the absorption rate of $PO_4-P$ was 0.56~0.78 mg/l$\cdot$day when the population density was 5.02~10.0 $kg/m^2\cdot day$. Taking into account the nutrient absorption rate and growth rate, the population density between $7.0 kg/m^2\cdot day$ and $8.0 kg/m^2 \cdot day$ was selected. The removal rate of nutrient was investigated after 7 days culture. Removal rate of $NO_x-N$ was 95.6~99.95% with initial concentration of 35 mg $NO_x-N/l$, and the removal rate of $PO_4-P$ was also high, indicating 80.24~98.9% with initial concentration of 5.95 mg $PO_x-P/l$.

APID공정 내 동절기 개량형 간헐포기 운전모드 적용 및 개발 (Development and Application of Modified Intermittently Aeration mode for Advanced Phase Isolation Ditch (APID) process at Winter Season)

  • Advanced Phase Isolation Ditch (APID) process was studied to develop economic retrofitting technology, for the plants where retrofitting of common activated sludge process is required. In this study, to develop and apply the modified intermittently aeration mode as process control conditions for treating municipal wastewater, a demonstration plant was installed and operated in the existing sewage treatment plant of P city. During this study, the average effluent $BOD_5$, SS, T-N, and T-P concentrations were 6.3, 4.5, 10.0, and 1.3 mg/L. The modified mode decreased the nitrification capability more than the conventional mode in the application period. Nitrate in the anaerobic condition can have a negative effect on biological phosphorus removal. In the decreasing nitrate levels, the modified mode increased the biological ability of removal phosphorus more than the conventional mode in this study. Therefore, newly developed APID process with modified intermittent aeration mode can be one of the useful processes for stable organic matter and nutrients removal.

특정수질유해물질 구리(Cu)의 수계에서의 현황 및 관리방향 (Status of the Copper as a Priority Water Pollutant and Management in Korea)

  • This paper is dealing with recent hot issues related with copper toxicity and its criteria, which was caused by a new government policy relocating some industries discharging priority-water quality pollutants from the watershed of Han River to other regions. Author is not interested in arguments between two sides of anti- and pro-policy but would like to go over status of copper pollution and its management and regulatory policy in Korea. From the data of published Research Journals and Reports, it can be concluded that copper is very common metal not only in the effluent from publically owned wastewater treatment plants, but also as a non-point source pollutant in the rainfall runoff. In addition, there have been very few studies personal interests, not by National Fund Basis. In order to enforce a new regulation, national-wide macro and micro-mass balance work of heavy metals should be performed in advance. In particular, background concentration and measurement errors have to be clearly defined before a new standard or criteria is established. The new standard has to be acceptable in terms of the best available technology and cost.

효과적인 수중의 인제거를 위해 강자성력을 가진 카보닐 철을 활용한 복합제 제조 (Preparation of Composites using Carbonyl Iron with Ferromagnetic Properties for Effective Phosphorus Removal in Water)

  • For the effective removal of phosphorus in water, a novel type of composite was prepared by combining Poly Alumiun Chloride, widely used in sewage/wastewater treatment plants, and Humic Acid particles, which are known to have phosphorus removal ability, with CI. The surface of the ferromagnetic CI particles was oxidized and activated, and then PAC and HA were synthesized to finally produce CIPAC and CIHA. CIPAC and CIHA prepared by this study showed similar results to the phosphorus removal efficiencies of PAC and HA coagulants. The novel composite has a larger weight than the conventional coagulant, and the coagulated sludge precipitates rapidly. The sludge could be easily separated in a short time if the external magnetic field was given by the ferromagnetic force of CIPAC and CIHA prepared with CI as support. Therefore, it can be concluded that if phosphorus removal is carried out using CIPAC and CIHA prepared through this study with external magnetic field, the sedimentation rate will be much faster than that of conventional coagulant. Thus it is possible to obtain a high economic benefit in the sludge recovery part.

지렁이 분변토가 식물성장에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Earthworm Casts on Growth of Plants)

  • 본연구는 분뇨처리장과 제지폐수 처리장에서 발생된 유기성 슬러지를 지렁이 먹이로 활용하고 지렁이가 배설한 분변토(Cast)를 유기질비료, 토양개량제로 재활용하여 폐기처분되어야 하는 유기성 슬러지를 자원화하는 기술을 개발하는 것으로 폐기물 재활용의 일익을 담당할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 분변토의 비효성조사를 위해 오이, 토마토, 배추 3가지 작물의 발아율을 조사한 결과 분변토를 배합하지 않은 대조구에서는 40.7~61,7%로 발아율이 낮았으나, 30~45%의 분변토를 배합한 처리구에서 3가지 작물의 발아율이 90% 이상으로 높게 나타났다. 분뇨처리장 슬러지를 지렁이 먹이로 하여 발생된 분변토로 식재한 오이, 토마토, 배추의 성장후 초장, 경경, 엽면적, 엽수, 생체중, 건물중, 뿌리의 생체중, 및 건물중 등 8가지 생육상황을 조사한 결과 15%, 60%의 분변토를 배합한 처리구에 비해 30~45%의 분변토를 배합한 처리구에서 3가지 작물의 성장이 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 제지폐수 처리장 슬러지를 지렁이 먹이로 하여 발생된 분변토로 식재한 오이, 토마토, 배추의 생육상황을 조사한 결과 30~45%의 분변토를 배합한 처리구에서 3가지 작물 모두 성장이 양호한 것으로 나타났으며, 분뇨분변토와는 달리 60%의 분변토를 배합한 처리구에서도 생육장애가 발생되지 않고 성장이 양호하였다.

총인 수질기준강화를 위한 국내 하수종말처리장의 물리화학적처리 특성조사 및 경제성 분석 (Survey of Physicochemical Methods and Economic Analysis of Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant for Advanced Treatment of Phosphorus Removal)

  • 우리나라의 공공하수처리시설은 생물학적 인 제거공정을 운전하고 있으나, '12년부터 지역구분(I, II, III)에 따라 각각 0.2, 0.3 및 0.5 mg/L로 강화되는 방류수수질기준을 준수하기 위해서는 화학물질을 이용한 추가적인 인 처리시설을 적용할 필요성이 대두되었다. 강화된 총인의 수질기준을 만족하기 위해 적용된 물리화학적 처리기술 성능의 구체적인 운영자료 구축을 위하여, 화학적 응집제 사용 중인 인 처리시설 중 모범적으로 가동하고 있는 국내 시설의 운영 데이터를 분석하여 처리성능을 평가하였다. 또한, jar 테스트를 이용해 물리화학적 인 제거공정 적용 시 최적 응집제 주입율 도출, 인 제거 및 슬러지 발생특성을 관찰하고 약품비용과 슬러지 발생증가량을 산정하여 실처리장에 응집제 적용 시 예상되는 경제성 분석을 하였다. 활성슬러지를 이용한 jar 테스트 결과, 0.5와 0.2 mg/L 이하의 총인 농도를 달성하기 위해 필요한 최소한의 응집제(황산알루미늄, 폴리염화알루미늄)의 주입농도는 각각 25와 30 mg/L (as $Al_2O_3$)이며, 2차 처리수의 경우에는 동일한 총인 농도를 달성하기 위해 요구되는 응집제 주입농도가 활성슬러지에 비해 약 1/12~1/3 수준으로 감소하였다. jar 테스트 결과, 활성슬러지에 응집제를 주입할 경우에 고형물 농도가 약 10~11%가 증가할 것으로 예측되었다. 한편, 활성슬러지에 응집제를 주입하는 경우의 응집제(황산알루미늄) 구입비는 2차 처리수에 주입하는 경우에 비해 약 4~10배 정도가 증가할 것으로 산정되었다. 또한, 슬러지 발생량은 약 4~10배 정도 증가할 것으로 예측되었다.
