  • Pyrolysis oil (C5-C20) produced using plastic non-oxidative pyrolysis technology produces naphtha oil (C5-C10) through a separation process, and naphtha oil produces hydrogen through a reforming reaction to secure economic efficiency and social and environmental benefits. In this study, waste plastic pyrolysis oil was subjected to a steam reforming reaction on a commercialized catalyst of 46-3Q And it was found that the 46-3Q catalyst reformed the pyrolysis oil to produce hydrogen. Therefore, an experiment was performed to increase hydrogen yield and minimize the byproduct of ethylene. The reaction experiment was performed using actual waste plastic oil (C8-C11) with temperature, steam/carbon ratio (S/C) ratio, and space velocity as variables. We studied reaction conditions that can maximize hydrogen yield and minimize ethylene byproducts.

  • In this study, calcium sulfate(gypsum) powder was obtained using waste sulfuric acid and stainless refinery sludge by- produced from chemical reagent and the iron industry, by the neutralization of waste sulfuric acid. As variables for the experiment the mole ratio of the H$_2$SO$_4$ : Ca(OH)$_2$, the pH, the reaction temperature and time, the amount of catalyst were used. The crystal shape and microstructure of obtained powder were observed by XRD and SEM, and the thermal property was investigated by DTA. As the NaCl is added 0~20wt% as a catalyst to the H$_2$SO$_4$ : Ca(OH)$_2$, system it can be found that the crystal shape goes through the processes as follows : gypsum dihydratlongrightarrowgypsum hemihydrate+gypsum dihydratelongrightarrowgypsum hemihydrate. And gypsum hemihydrate is $\beta$-type as the result of DTA. As waste sulfuric acid and stainless refinery sludge were used, the pH of reacted solution (which was 0.8) was rapidly raised up to 8~9 by the addition of stainless sludge and gypsum dihydrate was produced as a by-product. Therefore, it was found that stainless refinery sludge is sufficiently applicable for the neutralization of waste sulfuric acid.

  • Liquid-phase catalytic degradation of waste high-density polyethylene (HDPE) over ZSM-5 (powder type (PW)) and ZSM-5+binder (granule type (GR)) has been investigated with a stirred semi-batch operation at 400°C. Two ZSM-5 catalysts with a different crystal size were synthesized and also each ZSM-5 (25%) Catalyst was mixed with a same binder (kaolin: silica sol: alumina = 55%:10%:10%). The performance of prepared catalysts that has different physicochemical properties was discussed with the cumulative amount distribution, molecular weight distribution and also paraffin, olefin, naphthene and aromatic (PONA) distribution in liquid product. These liquid product quality and distributions were changed depending on the physicochemical properties of the catalyst. Moreover, the characteristic of ZSM-5 in the catalyst was strongly influenced on the activity and PONA distribution in liquid product.

  • In the global trend of countries around the world announcing the declaration of carbon neutrality, the development of low-carbon cement in the cement industry can be seen as a very important issue that can determine the future development of the cement industry in the future. Therefore, this study evaluated the strength characteristics of limestone cement paste with limestone powder of CaCO3 and refinery desulfurization waste catalyst of high Al2O3 content, and using a Minitab mixture design to optimize a limestone cement content. As a resuls it was confirmed that limestone cement paste with 5-10% of limestone powder and 1.25-2.5% of the waste catalyst exhibits similar compressive strength to that of OPC.

  • NiZn-ferrite was synthesized usign waste iron oxide catalysts which were produced from styrene monomer process and buried underground as an industrial wastes. The spinel type ferrite was obtained by calcination and sintering of the mixture of finely ground waste catalysts, nickel oxide and zinc oxide powders. The sintered body of Ni/sub 0.5/Zn/sub 0.5/Fe₂O₄ composition at 1230℃ for 5 hours showed the density of 5.38g/㎤, and initial permeability of 59 at 1 kHz. Not only cerium oxide, which existed as a major component in the catalyst, but also unicorporated NiO and ZnO into spinel structure remained as second phases after sintering.

  • NiZn-ferrite was synthesized from waste catalysts, which were produced from styrene monomer process and buried underground as an industrial wastes, and its magnetic properties were investigated. Nickel oxide and zinc oxide powders were mixed with finely ground waste catalysts, and spinel type ferrite was obtained by calcination at 900$\^{C}$ and sintering at 1230$\^{C}$ for 5 hours. The intial permeability was measured and reflection loss was calculated from S-parameters for the composition of Ni$\_$x/Zn$\_$1-x/Fe$_2$O$_4$(x=0.36, 0.50, 0.66). NiZn-ferrite synthesized from waste iron oxide catalyst showed a feasibility for the use as electromagnetic wave absorber in X-band.

  • Typical examples as unrecycled materials in Korea were Zinc from the electric arc furnace dust (EAF Dust), and Moiybdenium and Vanadium from the desulfurizing spent catalyst of petrochemical industries. In the otherwise, though recovery of valuable metals from the waste electronic scrap such as printed circuit boards (PCBs) and platinum group metals (PGM) from the waste automobile catalyst have been interesting issues, it is difficult to collect the exact informations or statistics on their material flow system. In this article, The current domestic research trends for unrecycled or less recycled materials have been reviewed, and material flow and recycling technologies on the desulfurizing spent catalyst were surveyed.

  • Simulated waste-derived synthesis gas has been tested for hydrogen production through water-gas shift (WGS) reaction over supported Cu catalysts prepared by co-precipitation method. $CeO_2$, $ZrO_2$, MgO, and $Al_2O_3$ were employed as supports for WGS reaction in this study. $Cu-CeO_2$ catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic activity as well as 100% $CO_2$ selectivity for WGS in severe conditions ($GHSV=40,206h^{-1}$ and CO concentration = 38.0%). In addition, $Cu-CeO_2$ catalyst showed stable CO conversion for 20h without detectable catalyst deactivation. The high activity and stability of $Cu-CeO_2$ catalyst are correlated to its easier reducibility, high oxygen mobility/storage capacity of $CeO_2$.
