The regeneration of the iron powders in the treatment of $FeCl_3$ etching solution containing nickel by ball-mill and ultrasonic treatments has been studied. When the unreacted iron powders were treated twice, the removal efficiency of nickel was 94.0% for the ball-mill treatment and 82.1% for the ultrasonic treatment. But the removal efficiency of nickel was 40.0% for the untreated iron powders. As the treatment time was increased, the particle size of iron powders was decreased for ball-mill treatment and almost not changed for ultrasonic treatment.
The removal of phosphorus was investigated from sewage waste water (SWW) using the used foundry sand (UFS). The optimal pH occurred at pH 2 for adsorption of phosphorus species in batch test. Phosphorus could be recovered with 99.9% from SWW in two hours at pH 2 using 100 g of UFS per liler of SWW. The adsorption of phosphorus species on UFS obeyed Langmuir isotherm, whose equation could be expressed by 1= 0.00059/(1+2.49878). Continuous column test for adsorption showed that breakthrough point appeared In 25 hours on the condition of breakthrough concentration of 8 mg/l
A scaled-up bioconversion of fishmeal wastewater (FMW) into liquid fertilizer was performed five times in a $1m^3$ reactor in order to examine the feasibility of commercialization. The importance of aeration was marked. Analyses indicated that dissolved oxygen (DO) level was closely related to the value of oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) and it was crucial to achieve high-quality liquid fertilizer. When pure oxygen was supplied through four diffusers into the reactor, DO levels and ORP values were maintained over 1.2 mg/L and 0.2 mV, respectively all the time during 52 hr of bioconversion. The pH changed from 6.8 to 5.9. The average removal percentages of chemical oxygen demand ($COD_{Cr}$) and total nitrogen (TN) were 75.0% and 71.6%, respectively. Compared to the result acquired in a 5-L reactor, bioconversion of FMW into liquid fertilizer was achieved in a shorter time under the same removal percentages of $COD_{Cr}$ and TN. The 52-hr culture of inoculated FMW was phytotoxic-free and it possessed comparable fertilizing ability to a liquid fertilizer made from the fish waste in hydroponic culture with amino acid contents of 5.93 g/ 100 g sample. From all the above results, transferring lab-scale data to large-scale production appeared to be successful. As a result, the commercialization of a liquid fertilizer made from FMW was feasible.
Excessive phosphorus (P as orthophosphate) is one of the major pollutants in natural water that are responsible for algal blooms and eutrophication. P removal by slag is an attractive solution if the P sorption capacity of the slag is significant. To design an efficient land treatment facility, basic information on the behaviour of P in the media-water environment is required. In this study, detailed column experiments were conducted to study the P transport under dynamic condition, and mathematical models were developed to describe this process. The column experiments conducted with dust and cake waste products (slag) from BHP steel industry in Australia as adsorbing media indicated that they had higher sorption capacity of P than that of a sandy loam soil from North Sydney, Australia. P transport in the dust and cake columns exhibited characteristics S-shaped or curvilinear breakthrough curves. The simulated results from a dynamic physical non-equilibrium sorption model (DPNSM) and Freundlich isotherm constants satisfactorily matched the corresponding experimental breakthrough data. The mobility of P is restricted proportionally to the adsorbent's sorption capacity.
In this research, the removal or uptake of heavy metals such as coppers by using oxalic acid metabolism of wood rot fungi, Tyromyces palustris were endeavored. As results, the addition of oxalic acid to copper containing culture did not cause the mycelium growth, but Tyromyces palustris was able to grow in this culture without inhibition. Tyromyces palustris grew with the cicular halo type in copper containing culture, and this type was formed as collectives after examining by microscope, and considered as copper oxalates by analyzing FT-IR comparison experiment with standards. According to this result, Tyromyces palustris has secreted oxalic acid during incubation, this secreted oxalic acid was combined with coppers, and formed copper oxalates by chelating reactions. In other words, the oxalic acid was might be as non-toxifying agent of coppers in medium. By using this copper removal mechanisms, Tyromyces palustris immobilized sawdust was used in bench scale air lift system for removing coppers. The added coppers were almost removed from the system within 72hrs. Therefore, this nonenzymatic wood degradation mechanism may give a possibility for removing coppers from copper containing waste water.

Mill scale, an iron waste, was used to separate magnetite particles for the adsorption of phosphate from aqueous solution. Mill scale has a layered structure composed of wustite (FeO), magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$), and hematite ($Fe_2O_3$). Because magnetite shows the highest magnetic property among these iron oxides, it can be easily separated from the crushed mill scale particles. Several techniques were employed to characterize the separated particles. Mill scale-derived magnetite particles exhibited a strong uptake affinity to phosphate in a wide pH range of 3-7, with the maximum adsorptive removal of 100%, at the dosage of 1 g/L, pH 3-5. Langmuir isotherm model well described the equilibrium data, exhibiting maximum adsorption capacities for phosphate up to 4.95 and 8.79 mg/g at 298 and 308 K, respectively. From continuous operation of the packed-bed column reactor operated with different EBCT (empty bed contact time) and adsorbent particle size, the breakthrough of phosphate started after 8-22 days of operation. After regeneration of the column reactor with 0.1N NaOH solution, 95-98% of adsorbed phosphate could be detached from the column reactor.
The propellant has a short shelf-life because of nitrogen oxides that were released from nitrocellulose decomposition. As-received and surface-modified ACFs were applied to remove the nitrogen oxides with intend to extend the shelf-life of propellant. The specific surface area of modified ACFs was slightly decreased but nitrogen function groups such as pyridine, pyridone and pyrrol were created on the surface of ACFs. As a result, the NO removal capacity of the surface-modified ACF by propellant waste increased about twice than that of the as-received ACF. The shelf-life of propellant was extended about 1.25 times by accompanying surface-modified ACF.
This study is investigated for the applications of MBR SYSTEM using $ENVIS^{(R)}$ which is a submerged flat membrane for treatment of sewage and wast water. The experiment was practiced on the scene of labor that are sewage facilities of factories $(10\;m^3/day)$ and wast water treatment plant $(30\;m^3/day)$ using equipments made by Pure-Envitech Co., LTD. SS, BOD and COD for the result of removal efficiency at the sewage facilities of factories were $99.7\%,\;97.6\%$, and $96.8\%$, rspectively. SS, BOD and COD for the result of removal efficiency at the waste water treatment plant were $99.6\%,\;95.6\%,\;and\;80.3\%$, respectively.
This paper was studied to research regarding the removal of contained nitrogen in industrial wastewater which uses the A2O4 advanced water treatment process. The field researches of two companies' wastewater occurred in each wastewater treatment site to apply the A2O4 process system, it was observed them for 20 days. As a result of the A2O4 system advanced wastewater process which applied an altitude control process obtained $10{\sim}76\;mg/L$, and 20 mg/L total nitrogen compound concentration in the two wastewater plants. In conclusion, it applied the A2O4 system in the two companies' wastewater system.
Two major hazardous gases. SOx and NOx. are emissioned from fossile fuels. SOx has been removed when oil is refined but NOx hasn't. So NOx is very serious problem in air pollution now There are several technologies to remove NOx. e.g. cooling method. scrubbers method. combustion method, polymer membrane method and adsorbent methods. Polymer membrane and adsorbent methods have good economic merit in removal systems of low content hazard gases. Traditional absorbents are porous silicas, aluminas. active carbon and zeolites. But these absorbents act only physisorption which has less removal performance than chemisorption. In this study. polymeric absorbent which has chemisorption as well as physisorption was analyzed about chemical structure and experimented about optimum operation conditions. The results showed that the chemical structure of the polymeric absorbent was expected as polystyrene having -N-CH$_2$COOH absorbent was revealed about 310$m^2$/g. The molar ratio of absored NO to charged NO in absorption experiments was shown 60% of the polymeric absorbent and 45% of zeolite absorbent at 3$0^{\circ}C$.
