Abstract A facultative alkalophilic gram-negative Vibrio metschnikovii strain RH530, isolated from the wastewater, produced several alkaline proteases (VAP) including six alkaline serine proteases and a metalloprotease. From this strain, high yielding YAP mutants were isolated by NTG treatment. The isolated mutant KS1 showed nine times more activity than the wild-type after optimization of the culture media. The production was regulated by catabolite repression when glucose was added to the medium. The effects of several organic nitrogen sources on the production of the YAP were investigated to avoid catabolite repression. The combination of 4% wheat gluten meal (WGM), 1.5% cotton seed flour (eSF), and 5% soybean meal (SBM) resulted in the best production when supplemented with 1% NaCl. The YAP showed a resistance to surfactants such as $sodium-{\alpha}-olefin$ sulfonate (AOS), polyoxy ethylene oxide (POE), and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), yet not to linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS). However, the activity of the YAP was restored completely when incubated with LAS in the presence of POE or $Na_2SO_4$. The YAP was stable in a liquid laundry detergent containing 6.6% SLES (sodium lauryl ether sulfate), 6.6% LAS, 19.8% POE, and stabilizing agents for more than two weeks at $40^{\circ}C$, but the stability was sharply decreased even after 1 day when incubated at $60^{\circ}C$. A washing performance test with the YAP exhibited it to be a good washing power by showing 51 % and 60% activity at $25^{\circ}C{\;}and{\;}40^{\circ}C$, respectively, thereby indicating that the YAP also has a good detergency at a low temperature. All the results suggest that the YAP produced from the mutant strain KSI has suitable properties for use in laundry detergents.rgents.
The effect of application of dentin bonding agent to the exposed dentin on the intradental nerve activity (INA), dentinal fluid movement and sealing of the dentinal tubules, was investigated in this study. The INA was recorded from the single pulp nerve unit dissected from the inferior alveolar nerve. And specimen of dentin was observed by SEM. Dentinal fluid 'movement through exposed dentin surface was measured before and after the application of dentin bonding agent. 1. Eight Ao-fiber units (conduction velocity: $8.0{\pm}4.0m$/sec) were identified. 4M NaCl evoked an irregular burst of action potentials which ceased immediately after washing. 2. In 4 $A{\delta}$-fiber units, appliction of All Bond 2 completely abolished the INA induced by 4M NaCl. Also, application of Scotchbond Multipurpose(SBMP) totally abolished the INA induced by 4M NaCl in 4 $A{\delta}$-fiber units. 3. Before the application of dentin bonding agent, outward dentinal fluid movement of $10.2{\pm}5.7\;pl{\cdot}s^{-1}{\cdot}mm^{-2}$ was obsered. But after the application of dentin bonding agent the movement of dentinal fluid was stopped. 4. The gap width of 2-$3{\mu}m$ was formed between exposed dentin and adhesive resin in the specimens applied with dentin bonding agents of All Bone 2 and SBMP. But the formation of hybrid layer and the penetration of resin into were dentinal tubules were not clearly observed in interface between dentin and adhesive resin.
Magaldrate. an antiacid was synthesized by reacting magnesium oxide, aluminum sulfate, and dried aluminum hydroxide gel. The optimum synthesis conditions based on the yield of t he product were established by applying Box-Wilson experimental design. It was found that the optimum synthesis conditions of Magaldrate were as follows: Reaction temperature; 61~$85{\circ}C$, concentration of two reactants. Mgo and $Al(OH)_3$: 16~19.8%, molar concentration ratio of two reactants, [MgO]/[$Al(OH)_3$]; 4.2~5.0, temperature of washing water; 36~$41^{\circ}C$ and drying temperature of the product: 76~$80^{\circ}C$. Magaldrate was synthesized under the optimum synthesis conditions and identified by analyzing the chemical composition, and by differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction method. The Magaldrate sample synthesis under these conditions was used to prepare 15.6% Magaldrate original suspension which was utilized to make 13% Magaldrate suspension dispered in various concentrations of eight types of suspending agents. The acid-neutralizing capacity of 13% Magaldrate suspension dispersed in 0.25% suspending agents was examined by Rosset-Rice method. The maximum pH was reached within 1 minute in all suspension tested, and duration maintained between pH 3~5 was decreased in the order of Na alginate Na silicate(meta) Veegum HV pectin agar>Na>CMC>xanthan gum>bentonite. It was found that the hysteresis loop area was increased with temperature in the case of Riopan Plus and the addition of agar, whereas the area was decreased with temperature in the case of the addition of Na alginate and xanthan gum. 13% Magaldrate suspension tends to sediment by the addition of bentonite.
The influence of processing fluids and electrode spacing on the electrokinetic process was evaluated to remediate As-, Cu-, Pb-contaminated soil. Single and mixture of sodium citrate, EDTA and NaOH was used to investigate the metal extraction. EDTA for washing reagent showed the highest removal efficiency. Based on the extraction result, the electrode spacing (20, 40, 60 cm) on the electrokinetic process was investigated to remove the multi-metals from soil. The highest removal was observed at the experiment with 60 cm of electrode spacing, however, the correlation between electrode spacing and removal of metals was not clear. The electrode spacing influenced the amount of accumulated electro-osmotic flow. BCR sequential extraction showed that electrokinetic process removed the fractionation of metals bound to Fe-Mn oxyhydroxide.
This paper examined dyeing using sulfur dye with nylon and the characteristics of high gauge knitting for generating high functionality including light weight, wind resistance and elasticity using fine nylon threads. Yarn tension, stitch field and knitting speed of high and fine gauge knitting were measured. The influence of reducing agents on sulfur dye, optimum dyeing conditions and fastness features in nylon dyeing were analyzed. The analysis results are presented below. When nylon (Hyoseong, 40d/34f) and spandex (Hyoseong, 20d) for use as hosiery yarn were used to knit high gauge and flat weave, 44 gauge, the effective knitting conditions were a stitch field over 8.2cm in 1 course length, yarn tension of less than 5g and knitting speed below 18rpm. Nylon dyeing using sulfur dye showed effective results when a rongalite reducing agent was used at more than 10% o.w.f. and dyeing was maintained at $98^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. For dyeing nylon and spandex composite using sulfur dye, color fastness in washing, water, daylight and friction were higher than Class 4 or 5, which indicated a superior property. The analysis results verified that the existing problems in nylon dyeing could be solved by using sulfur dyes that don't use heavy metals due to superior fastness and therefore quality, high gauge nylon knit products could be produced.
Purpose: This study is about safety of the expressed human milk by investigating its bacterial contamination and antibiotic resistance of the microbes in the expressed milk. Methods: The data are collected from the 156 mothers and their newborn infants in NICU of U University Hospital from January 2004 to September 2005. Results: 1) The expressed human milk was contaminated by Staphylococcus epidermidis for 66.7%, Two mixed bacterial strain for 11.5%, Acinetobacter species for 8.0%, Klebsiella species for 4.6%, Staphylococcus aureus for 4.6%. 2) The microbes in the human milk had high resistance to the Antimicrobial agents: 77.5% for Penicillin-G, 66.6% for Oxacillin, and 63.7% for Cephalothin. 3) The distribution of microbes showed a significant depending on the place of the milk expression (p=.020). In particular, mixed bacterial strain was found more in the milks expressed at home than the milk expressed at the hospital. Conclusion: This study shows the importance of systematic education of feeding process in expressed milk: poor management of a breast pump, inadequate hand washing and imperfect breast cleaning explain the reasons of contamination 156 cases.
A number of studies have been introduced on the use of quaternary cationic agents having various reactive groups, which can improve the substantivity of anionic dyes, specially direct dyes, towards cotton. In the case of direct dyes, it is well known that they are widely used due to their convenience to apply and low cost, whilst they display poor levels of fastness properties to washing. Thus many applications using direct dyes in the textile fields have been still enjoyed in the areas where a higher level of wet fastness is specially not required. This work herein comprises that in order to improve the substantivity of direct dyes towards cotton, cellulose-reactive allylamine polymer namely, triazinyl N,N′-dimethyl-N,N′-diallyl ammonium chloride was prepared and treated onto cotton to provide cationic properties within substrates. This application showed that even low concentration of electrolytes being present, the direct dyes were exhausted well on the cationized cotton and that the rate of dye uptake by treated cotton was faster than that of untreated sample. Furthermore the antimicrobial properties were observed from the cationized samples.
Hexachloro-cyclophosphazene(HCCP), a formaldehyde-free flame retardant (FR), was steam-cured with triethanol amine(TEA) to impart durable flame-retardancy to cotton fabrics. While the HCCP treatment alone showed very limited resistance to repeated laundering cycles, the addition of TEA substantially improved the laundering durability of the FR cotton up to twenty laundering cycles. The extended washing resistance was accomplished by the increased nucleophilic substitution of unreacted P-Cl groups in HCCP by the TEA resulting in the more densely crosslinked FR networks. With increasing molar ratio of TEA to the HCCP up to 2, the flame retarding effectivity and the synergistic effectiveness improved to 2.8 and 1.8 respectively. TGA and microscale combustion calorimetry verified the pyrolysis and combustion behaviors of the FR-cotton, which showed lower maximum pyrolysis and combustion temperatures together with substantially decreased peak pyrolysis and heat release rate, synergistically yielding larger amounts of carbonaceous chars. The formaldehyde-free HCCP and TEA can be a durable FR finishing agents for cotton fabrics acting through a solid-phase flame-retarding mechanism.
In this report, nano-sized catalysts were introduced onto fabric surface to eliminate toxic chemicals assisted by physical adsorption. For chemical removal of toxic compounds, a series of zirconium-containing catalysts were synthesized and treated on fabric to catalyze the hydrolysis and oxidation of target molecules. Antimicrobial was also introduced for the research purpose to prove the compatibility of as-synthesized catalysts with other solutions. Zirconium ligated with hydroxyl group and MOF(Metal-Organic Frameworks) were exploited as catalyst for removal of toxic compounds, while zinc complex was used for an antimicrobial to culminate in a chemical shield. Once fabrics were functionalized, fabrics were washed 2 or 5 times for a washing durability test. The amount of catalyst in textile were measured by ICP-MS and weight increasing ratio of fabrics.
Duck down is a feather of waterfowl and is used as an accessory for bedding products such as evil, pillow and outdoor sleeping bags due to its soft and bulky characteristics. Down is used mainly for winter outdoor such as padding and jumpers because of its excellent thermal insulation effect. Down wear is known as a product with high added value. Down is processed and sanitized because a large amount of oil and fat, bacteria, dust, insects, and soil are mixed. In particular, if the proper amount of oil and fat is not removed, it may cause odor or bacteria, and since the fishy smell peculiar to down and harmful VOCs (toluene, benzene, etc.) are released, there is a need to suppress the occurrence of bacteria through the provision of antibacterial function. In this study, we investigated the substances that cause the fishy odor of down, and confirmed the effect on the deodorization and antibacterial properties of down according to processing agents and processing conditions in order to impart deodorant and antibacterial properties to down.
