In this study, we offered a way that is to make warehouse industry clustered in Incheon port for getting competitive and high end value added activities like advanced port logistics center considering trend that is changing functions of port and importance of port-hinterland. For this, we studied the existing research about port cluster, the present condition of warehouse industry in Incheon port and importance of value-added logistics activities. Also, we offered needs to build a high value-added and integrated logistics center by examples of advanced port logistics center in Singapore, Netherlands(Rotterdam) and Hongkong. We get the questionnaires for gathering ideas of port logistics industry about to set integrated logistics centers by strategy we offered that is making warehouse logistics clustered.

POSCO has a plan for facility expansion in plate mill by building No.3 Plate Mill. By No.3 Plate Mill's coming on line, POSCO' current plate production of 2.3 million tons will increase by over 1 million tons to 3.36 million tons (Currently, annual domestic demand for plates is 4.42 million tons). With the plan of facility expansion, POSCO also has the plan of integrating the Plate Warehouse. But, we came to have a question whether the roller table from the mill to the warehouse could carry extended products. Engineers working in the mill wanted to install transfer facility to reduce the load of the roller table, but the engineers in facility purchasing team didn't want to buy the new facility. So, We needed to analyzed the material flow by simulation. The simulation was done on the VAX system by SLAM II. And this project was done by two engineers for 2 months. In the end, we concluded that two transfer facilities are needed for material flow with no bottle neck point.

This paper considers the intermediate warehouse location problem in a two stage distribution system where commodities are delivered from the given set of capacitated factories to customers via uncapacitated intermediate warehouses. In order to determine the subset of warehouses to open which minimizes the total distribution costs including the fixed costs associated with opening warehouses, the cross decomposition method for mixed integer programming recently developed by T.J. Van Roy is used. The cross decomposition unifies Benders decomposition and Lagrangean relaxation into a single framework that involves successive solutions to a primal subproblem and a dual subproblem. In our problem model, primal subproblem turns out to be a transshipment problem and dual subproblem turns out to be an intermediate warehouse location problem with uncapacitated factories.
Recently, not only domestic businesses but also overseas businesses are expanding development and investment in automated warehouses as domestic and foreign logistics environments undergo drastic change. In such an environment, automated warehouse systems are being rapidly changed, and automated warehouse systems equipped with diversified functions are being developed accordingly. But the assessment systems of developed automated warehouse system is at a standstill. In the present article, characteristics of the automated warehouse systems in diversified development and trends of technology were analyzed, based on which evaluation items of functional suitability and reliability were derived by referring to ISO/IEC 25000 as the international quality assessment standard to secure reliability of the automated warehouse system, and an evaluation model was developed through the derived evaluation items. Through the present article, evaluation standards of functional suitability and reliability to enhance quality levels of automated warehouse systems are considered to be secured.

This paper deals with a centralized warehouse problem with multi-item and capacity constraint. The objective of this paper is to decide the number and location of centralized warehouses and determineorder quantity (Q), reorder point (r) of each centralized warehouse to minimize holding, setup, penalty, and transportation costs. Each centralized warehouse uses continuous review inventory policy and its budget is limited. A SA (Simulated Annealing) approach is developed and its performance is tested by using some computational experiments.

This paper addresses the analysis of the travel distance and the number of storage location for storage location allocation methods in a warehouse system. The dedicated, randomized, combined and limited storage methods are considered. The combined and the limited storage methods are suggested here, which the combined storage method is to divide the storage locations into the dedicated storage area and the randomized storage area, and the limited storage method is to restrict the storage area of each product. Through a numerical example, the average travel distance between input/output point and the storage locations, and the number of storage location needed in the warehouse are compared between storage location allocation methods. The nearest randomized storage method is shown as the reasonable one in the travel distance and the number of storage location.

This paper addresses the analysis of the travel distance and order picking time of the vehicle in a aisle when items are picked by the batch in a warehouse system. Batching is to combine several orders in a single tour of the storage/retrieval machine. An advantage of batching is that the length of a tour for a batch of orders is shorter than the sum of the individual orders' tour lengths. The average travel distance and order picking time when a batch is picked in a aisle of the warehouse systems are analyzed for the batch size. And when the vehicle is idle, the dwell point of the vehicle to minimize to the response distance is analyzed. As the batch size is increased, average order picking time per item is decreased. The problem is analyzed and a numerical example is showed to explain the problem.

Productivity is important to evaluate an efficiency of performed work and organization in construction industry. The productivity should be defined as activity level rather than macro level in order to effectively use productivity data and manage a project. The primary objective of this study is to develop a construction productivity management system using data warehouse, OLAP and data mining technologies which enables to easily accumulate the construction productivity data and perform multi layer analysis. Finally, it is anticipated that the effective use of the developed system would be able to measure the result of project and make a plan of the similar project with reliability.
The purpose of this case study is to verify the usefulness of three costing models and a minimum profit management model that can support the logistics warehouse companies in the Busan Newport Distri-park. This case study investigated traditional costing, activity-based costing (ABC), and time-driven ABC (TDABC); and suggested that an appropriate minimum profit management model is contribution margin analysis. Accordingly, in order to verify the usefulness of models, this case study surveyed the actual cost management conditions of companies, applied the three costing models to the "K" warehouse company in the Busan Newport Distri-park, and undertook a comparative study of the results. This case study produced two main findings. First, TDABC was verified as the most useful and advanced of the three costing models tested. Second, contribution margin analysis was confirmed to be the most suitable model to manage minimum profits for port warehouse companies in the Busan Newport Distri-park.
Recently, many enterprises have attempted to construct data warehousing systems for decision-support. Data warehouse is an intelligent store of data that can aggregate vast amounts of information. Building DW requires two important development issues:(i) DW for the decision making of business users and (ii) metadata within it. Most DW development methodologies have not considered metadata development; it is necessary to adopt a DW development methodology which develops a DW and its metadata simultaneously. Metadata is a key to success of data warehousing system and is critical for implementing DW. That is, metadata is crucial documentation for a data warehousing system where users should be empowered to meet their own information needs; users need to know what data exists, what it represents, where it is located, and how to access it. Furthermore, metadata is used for extracting data and managing DW. However, metadata has failed because its management has been segregated from the DW development process. Metadata must be integrated with data warehousing systems. Without metadata, the decision support of DW is under the control of technical users. Therefore, integrating data warehouse with its metadata offers a new opportunity to create a more adaptive information system. Therefore, this paper proposes a DW development methodology from a metadata perspective. The proposed methodology consists of five phases: preparatory, requirement analysis, data warehouse (informational database) development, metastore development, and maintenance. To demonstrate the practical usefulness of the methodology, one case is illustrated
