Purpose: This study aims to suggest the architectural planning guidelines for the nurse area and patients' convenient facilities design of the wards in central public hospitals of the communities. Methods: In order to suggest architectural planning guidelines, expert's interview, field survey and analysis of the floor plan have been conducted in this paper. Results: This paper presents room configurations and space program, which determines the areas and structures of the spaces in the wards. Also it suggests the examples of floor plans which contains how to design nurse area and convenient facilities of the patient in the wards. Implications: The result of this research would be useful as a reference when the architect tries to design nurse area and convenient facilities of the patient of the wards.
Objectives: This descriptive survey study aimed to identify factors that affect job satisfaction among nurses working in integrated nursing care service wards and to explore measures to increase job satisfaction among these nurses. Methods: Data were collected between July 20 and August 3, 2018 from nurses working in integrated nursing care service wards in Busan and Changwon city, in Korea. Data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 23.0 software(IBM corp., Armonk, NY, USA). Results: Factors affecting job satisfaction among nurses working in integrated nursing care service wards were identified as follows: professional self-concept (${\beta}=.32$, p=.003), which is a subdomain of nursing professionalism, and nursing foundations for quality care (${\beta}=.30$, p=.001), which is a subdomain of nursing work environment. The model had an explanatory power of 54.7%. Conclusions: Nursing professionalism should be strongly established among nurses, as nurses are key players in a health system that allows stable and expanded operations of integrated nursing care. Intervention measures that create a better work environment for nurses should also be implemented. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop systematic strategies and multifaceted efforts to increase nurses' job satisfaction in integrated nursing care service wards.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and evaluate the collaborate transitional care program for improving continuity of care in patients transferred to general wards from ICUs. Methods: 18 years and older who were hospitalized in adult intensive care units at A university affiliated medical center was recruited for the study. The experimental group for patients transferred from an ICU consisted of 33 patients and family caregivers; 34 patients and family caregivers for the control group. This study was utilized a quasi-experimental research design. The collaborative transitional care program was administered in transfer process. Data were collected two times by interviews, medical records, and telephone using questionnaires. Results: There were statistically significant differences between the two groups on relocation stress (p<.001), perceived health status (p<.001), satisfaction of caring (p=.011), physical domain (p=.022) and mental domain (p<.001) of the QOL. There were significant differences between the families of the two groups on burden (p<.001) and satisfaction of caring (p<.001). Conclusion: The collaborative transitional care programs administered in transfer process to general wards from an ICU have positive effects on patients and families' intrinsic and extrinsic factors. This program will be able to be utilized in clinical fields to improve continuity of care for patients and families between ICUs and general wards.

In our society today, a variety of medical caring system, along with a scientific development in the area of oriental medical science plus national demand, has increased the augmentation and the opening of oriental wards and hospitals (Han Bang), which has come to create an additional requirement of nursing activity at oriental medicine wards should be different from that of the general wards or the same as the other. In view of this, various studies need to be made in this connection. The purpose of this study is to comprehend the number of nurses who want to work at oriental medicine wards and measure job satisfaction in nursing as compared with those working at general wards so as to provide basic materials for future assignment and supplementary training for the nurses. An attempt was made to contribute toward nursing administration on the one hand improving nursing training course on the other hand. A total of 72 nurses currently working at two oriental medicine hospitals available in Seoul and 82 general nurses were selected for this study using the questionaire from December 1993 to January 1994. An instrument for the study was based on the measurement of work satisfaction developed by Paula L. Stamps including 37 questions complemented by Kim for revision (1993) and 14 questions regarding general characteristics and oriental medicine wards. The instrument to test dependability showed Cronbach's=0.7711. The collected data have been processed by computer package SPSS. General characteristics of the two groups and the matters involved in oriental medicine wards were calculated into real figure and percentage an similarities between the two groups were analyzed by t-test and F-test according to the characteristics of variables. The comparative test on work satisfaction among the two groups including general characteristics and work factors were conducted by t-test and F-test. The major findings as a result of the study are as follows : 1. As general characteristics, age group of $26{\sim}30$ years are more than any segment of age. As to marital status, the number of those in single status is slightly higher than the married. Approximately 80% of them are graduates of nursing schools and nursing colleges. They are mostly in service for one to three years. There is no significant difference between the two groups. 2. The number of those who want to work at oriental medicine wards represents 40.3% against 58.4%, being in favor of general wards. 3. The reason for service at oriental medicine wards is that "there is room for potential research" which happened to rank first, followed by "easy job," "good working atmosphere" and "growing interest in oriental medicine." 4. Work satisfactions among nurses who work at oriental medicine wards prove greater than that of nurses who work at general wards. 5. Work satisfaction between the two groups by work factors is reflected with significant difference statistically on task requirement, interaction and doctor-nurse relationships. 6. The general charcateristics and the work satisfaction by work factors prove that there are significant difference in age, marital status, education and the period of work. They tend to be more satisfied with the work as they grow in age. Significant differneces are found in the work factors such as autonomy, adiministration and professional job in the relationship with doctor-nurse. As to marital status, the married are more satisfied than the unmarried. There are significant differneces in the factors respecting administration and doctor-nurse college graduates are highly satisfied with task requirement. However, satisfaction with the professional level has proven the highest degree for those having master degree. The period of work and satisfaction : There are significant differneces in task requirement, administration, interactions, professional level and doctor-nurse relationships. As a general rule, the degree of satisfactions is in proportion to the lengrh of service. The following conclusions are drawn based on the fndings mentioned above. Even though the work satisfaction of the nurse who work at oriental medicine ward is relatively high, it is desired that personal consultation be given as to disposition of nurses when they are assigned to oriental medicine wards. It is also recommended that lectures on oriental medicine be conducted through supplementary training and/or basic nursing course in order that they may be motivated for ingenious activities with an increasing sense of self-esteem which will eventually enhance positive changes for the patients who are in need of oriental medicine nursing and for the medical teams. In addition, joint reseaches involvingclinical care and education should be in constant process for unique and scientific development for those who are subject to oriental medicine nursing care.
Purpose: This study was done to understand the meanings and nature of experiences of the burnout of nurses working in oncology wards. Methods: The hermeneutic phenomenology developed by van-Manen was used. The period for data collection was from November, 2006 to May, 2007. This study took place in 3 university hospitals in B & U cities. Nine nurses working in oncology wards participated. Data collection was done through individual in-depth interviews. Results: The eight most common themes demonstrated by participants from this study were 'being fed up with endless demands', 'collapsing in front of deaths', 'gasping for breath due to overwhelming tasks', 'uncontrollable suffering of body', 'gradually loosing self-esteem', 'frustration from the work world', 'beleaguered relationships', and 'desire to escape'. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that there is a need to develop a preventive burnout program for nurses working in oncology wards.

The purpose of this study is a presentation of long term strategies for hereafter hospital's remodeling and new constructions with grabbing in the characters of various spaces and ways of remodeling on wards which have been remodeled according to periods(the opening, before remodeling, after remodeling, new construction). The targets are three remodeled hospitals and four resent hospitals. And also the hospitals are divided as beds, additional hospital facilities, day room, doctor's and staff dining room, public space(corridor, core, duct) etc. The analEis of this study explains changes of wards through the characters expressed by remodeling on the specific functions (beds, additional hospital facilities, day room, doctor's and staff dining room, public space etc.) Following the research, the study has kept going to understanding of problems and limitations of improvement on remodeling wards. Finally, this researcher looked for suggestions on the planning of wards.
Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationships between the self-leadership, role conflict, nursing work environment, and quality of nursing service in comprehensive nursing care service wards and identify the factors that affect the quality of nursing service. Methods: The data were collected from 158 nurses working in comprehensive nursing care service wards from three general hospitals with 200 beds or more in Seoul, Korea. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis of enter method using SPSS/WIN ver 22.0 program. Results: The factors of quality of nursing services were self-leadership (β=.44, p<.001), nursing work environment (β=.17, p=.014), and the work experience in comprehensive nursing care service wards (β=-.15, p=.035) explaining 32% of the total variance. Conclusions: The results indicated that self-leadership, work experience in the comprehensive nursing care service wards, and nursing work environment affect the quality of nursing services of nurses in the comprehensive nursing care service wards. It is necessary to make efforts for seeking various intervention strategies and improving nursing work environment.

Purpose: Because of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, there have been many cases of using portable negative pressure unit to convert general wards into temporary negative pressure isolation wards. The purpose of this study is to analyze the indoor environment of the switching type wards. Methods: Field measurements and experiments were conducted in a medical facility. Air volume, wind speed and pressure difference were measured in non-occupant state. Dispersion tests were performed with gas and particle matter. Results: The pressure difference between the wards and the corridor was higher than -2.5 Pa in normal situation. However, in the gas and particle dispersion tests, it was found that there were concerns about the spread through leakages in low-airtight walls or ceilings. In addition, it was confirmed that the pressure imbalance in ducts through the non-sealed diffusers could cause back flow during portable unit operation. Furthermore, when there was a pressure difference between adjacent wards planned to be at same pressure level, the possibility of the spread through the leakages was found. Implications: When using portable units for making switching type wards, it is necessary to create airtight space and seal the non-operation diffusers. In case of operating the air handling unit, T.A.B must be performed to adjust the duct balancing.
Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) has focused on the need for interprofessional education (IPE) to improve interprofessional collaboration competency and patient health outcomes. Accordingly, most European and North American medical colleges have established IPE for students. However, IPE learning activity in medical wards for the clinical experience of pharmacy students has not been fully reviewed in Korea. Therefore, this study aims to examine the current status of IPE learning activities in wards at tertiary and secondary hospitals in order to identify ways to improve the program. Methods: The official document of cooperation consists of six self-administered questions regarding IPE learning activities in wards. The preceptor's response in each hospital was evaluated. Results: Of the 22 hospitals, 9 tertiary hospitals and 12 secondary general hospitals responded. For the introductory pharmacy practice experience (IPPE), participating in intensive care (IC) was provided at one secondary general hospital (8.3%) and no tertiary hospital. Ward rounds with medical staff members were provided at two tertiary hospitals (22.2%) and one (8.3%) secondary general hospital. A major barrier to executing IPE was lack of rewards and incentives for the faculty and preceptors who participated in the program. Conclusion: In both tertiary hospitals and secondary general hospitals, pharmacy students have limited exposure to IPE learning activities in wards at hospital, and IPPE at most hospitals was carried out in pharmacy settings only. This study suggests that it is necessary for the hospitals to improve and support IPE learning activities in wards in order to improve learners' competency.

This study refers to the problem of long-term inpatient flow in a general hospital. In this study, a queueing simulation model was developed for the two departments in the hospital with a homogeneous case mix and relatively many long-term inpatients in order to increase the turnover rate and hospital charges. Before the simulation n, the model was verified by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The following results were generated by three alternative models of the special bed policies. 1. Alternative I : When long term inpatients were admitted to the wards belonging to departments A and B without transfer to other departments and special beds, the average turn-over rate decreased by 2-4% and the average hospital charges decreased by 70 million won. 2. Alternative II : When long-term inpatients were transferred to department C but the transfer of wards was determined by department C in order of clinical need, the average turnover rate increased by 4-13% but the average hospital charges decreased by 30 million won. This result was not greatly different from the present state. 3. Alternative III : When long-term inpatients were transferred to the special wards and department C simultaneously, the increase in the average turnover rate and hospital charges was equivalent to the increase of two beds in the special wards. When the special wards were allocated 16 beds, the average turnover rate of departments A and B increased by about 55% and 20% respectively. Also, the hospital charges increased by about 0.44 billion won. As a result, transfer to department C and the use of 16 beds in the special wards for long-term inpatients of departments A and B is expected to maximize the hospital revenue. However, as the above special bed policy can not increase the turnover rate above 60%, there is a need for a more comprehensive policy to further increase the rate. The development of an elaborate model should include the number of long-term inpatients in all clinical departments, the special wards system or an increase of hospital beds to handle admission needs, and the resources of the hospital by department. When the alternatives are evaluated, a cost-benefit analysis in addition to the turnover rate and the hospital charges should be considered.
