  • There are many challenging problems in mobile robot navigation. As an example, a mobile robot may wander around in local minimum and may wiggle when it moves through a narrow corridor. In addition, the real time obstacle avoidance and the posture control of mobile robot are also very improtant problems. To address these problems, a navigation algorithm which is composed o freal time obstacle avoidance algorithm and a global path planner (GPP) that genrates the shortest path is presented. In this paper, the global path planner reduce the calculation time by reducing the dta to be handled. Also it can make a real time obstacle avoidance by using the fuzzy logic inference. So the presented algorithm provide a stable navigastion for the mobile robot when it fall into the unstable navigation.

  • This study approaches the novel from psychodynamic perspectives, where the narrative is woven into the strands of traumatic memories and past. Deriving from Julia Kristeva's discussion on melancholia, this paper discreetly examines Hata as a melancholic, who is unaware of what he has lost and even that he has lost. Racially abject but in defiance of his separation from 'the mother,' Hata introjects loss as his own subjectivity. The insoluble void causes him to wander through the bravado of belongingness, which he eventually transforms into Sublimation. This paper reads that Hata finally faces his own black sun, deviating from his earlier gesture life; thus, the novel becomes a successful case study of the melancholic. However, female bodies are at stake, subsumed under Hata's sexual perversion. The novel renders trauma behind the fragmented narrative of an Asian American man at the expense of consuming morbid 'feminine' bodies physically and psychologically.

  • QRS detection of ECG is the most popular and easy way to detect cardiac-disease. But it is difficult to analyze the ECG signal because of various noise types. The important problem in recording ECG signal is a baseline wandering, which is occurred by rhythm of respiration and muscle contraction attaching to an electrode. Particularly, in the healthcare system that must continuously monitor people's situation, it is necessary to process ECG signal in realtime. In other words, the design of algorithm that exactly detects QRS region using minimal computation by analyzing the person's physical condition and/or environment is needed. Therefore, baseline wander removing method based on morphological filter for efficient QRS detection method is presented in this paper. For this purpose, we detected QRS through the preprocessing method using morphological filter, adaptive threshold, and window. The signal distortion ratio of the proposed method is compared with other filtering method. Also, R wave detection is evaluated by using MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. Experiment result show that proposed method removes baseline wanders effectively without significant morphological distortion.

  • Baseline drift reduction and removal of power line noises in electrocardiogram are often necessary to avoid the distortions in extracting the fiducial features. With this aim, the multirate digital filtering algorithm is suggested to design and implement Finite Impulse Response or Infinite Impulse Response Filter by changing the sampling rate with omitting or interpolating intermediate ECG data. After the experimental simulations performed, we can conclude the fact that we can suppress the baseline wander and power line disturbances in ECG signal with reducing the computational complexities in which we do not keep the original and high sampling frequency.

  • Homing operation can be defined as a series of actions which are necessary for a mobile robot to move from the current position with any arbitrary orientation to a desired position with a specified orientation, while avoiding possible obstacles. In this paper, a homing and obstacle avoidance algorithm for nonholonomic mobile robots is proposed. The proposed algorithm consists of a local goal generator, a discrete state controller, and local path tracking controller based on Aicardi's path following algorithm. In the discrete state controller, 4 states are defined according to the environmental conditions and 4 desired high-level command for the states are given as follows: avoid, wander, home and homing zones. The proposed local goal generator is designed to generate the desired local path by using weighted distance transforms which are newly made to satisfy the nonholonomic constraints of mobile robots. Here, subgoals are also found as vertices of the desired local path. To demonstrate result effectiveness and applicability of the proposed algorithm, computer simulations are illustrated and experimental results for a real mobile robot system are also provided.

  • Nowadays renewable energy has undergone major development, however most renewable energy resources still have demerit which is under the influence of environmental factors that can not be set up the power plants or can not be generated the rated power. To wander from the point of environmental instability, the present paper looks at the tidal current energy which can supply regular electric power. It has an important merit which is more predictable than others, however the place which can be set up is limited and the turbine system must be optimized. The development of the optimized rotor blades design is urgent to obtain regular electric power using the tidal current energy. Therefore, the paper expands on this idea and presents a conceptual design of 100kW horizontal axis rotor blade for the tidal current turbine using blade element momentum (BEM) analysis. The compatibility of horizontal axis tidal turbine (HATT) is verified using a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, ANSYS-CFX. This paper presents results of the numerical analysis, such as pressure, streak line and the performance curves with torque data for the inflow of the horizontal axis tidal current turbine (HATT).

  • Marcel Wanders, one of the greatest designers in the world of contemporary design, was born in the Netherlands. His works run the gamut from interior design to furniture design to lighting design, building a unique world of works. He started to gain fame when he presented "Knotted Chair" at Droog Design in 1996, which was made out of aramid ropes and later became his symbol. In 2000, he established "moooi," a world-renowned design label. By giving characteristic qualities, his works are given meaning, and like a fantastical dream, their images are extremely fantastical and stimulating. As can be seen in his character cover, he puts emphasis on the harmony between minimalism and decoration, establishing his own unique design concept. In this thesis, based on Marcel Wander's design philosophy, his overall design characteristics were classified into theatrical effects and storytelling. Expressive elements depaysement, eclectic mixture, and scale modification were derived from theatrical effects and analyzed; for storytelling, object, semantic cues, and dream and fantasy were derived and analyzed. A distinguishing feature of such analysis is his meaning-centric design approach, the principle by which to form long-term relationships with the users by creating user-centric designs that make them find meaning and values in diverse experiences in their daily routine, giving them familiar yet unique experience.

  • This is a successive study of the development and application of an electronic safeguard system for elderly men (senile dementia patients) who wander without purpose because of declined mental capability, while retaining their physical ability. The new safeguard system is designed with some additional functions on the basis of the previously developed system. Firstly, alarms are designed not to disturb other patients at night, so that informations about doors from which the patients go out may be transmitted to helpers individually by radio paging system. Secondly, the system hardware can be set up anywhere without laying particular signal transmission cables, provided that there exist AC power distribution lines for the utilization as a transmission line of signals to alarm indicators. Thirdly, it is possible to have a grasp of the whole states of the safeguard systems at the center of operation by monitoring the operational state of each system with a necessary data acquisition according to its instruction through telecommunication network. Thus, each safeguard system can be economically supplied to the special nursing homes and the helpers are ensured more released from physical and psychological burdens so that they can devote themselves to the care of senile elderly men, thereby improving their patients' comfort and human dignity.

  • Purpose: This qualitative study aimed to understand the experiences of reorganization of everyday lives among the women with chronic health problem. Methods: In this study, the approach and its process of sociology of everyday lives were adopted. Data for the study came from 6 informants and 9 family members of the informants by interview and participant-observation from January, 2004 to May, 2006. Qualitative content analyzing methods were adopted. Results: Informants' everyday lives were reorganized as follows. During the experiences of shock from unpleasant and unclear symptoms of their body, their sight fixed on the body part. Their time also fixed on a point of present. They started to wander from medical care to folk and lay care. After they were informed that the health problem could not be treated completely, they reduced the world of everyday life and protected themselves from the chaotic unfamiliar world by setting -a- side duties as a family member and severing unessential social relationship. As they achieved a skill for managing their health problem, they gained their former pattern of everyday lives as a woman, a family member, and a social member. Finally, they created a new life world. Conclusion: We need more study on the development of an adaptive strategy by the informants, to intervene in the crisis of everyday life.
