  • The noise component of electrocardiogram is not distributed in a certain frequency band. It is expressed in various types of signals by rater's physical and environmental conditions. Particularly, since the baseline wander is occurred by the mixture of the original signal and 0 ~ 2 [Hz] range of the frequency components according to muscle constraction of part attaching to an electrode and respiration rythm, it makes the ECG signal analysis difficult. Several methods have been proposed to eliminate the wandering effectually. However, they have some problems. In some methods, the high processing time is required due to the computational complexity, while in other cases ECG signal morphology can be distorted. This paper suggests a simple and effective algorithm that eliminates baseline wander with low computational complexity and without distorting signal morphology. First, the algorithm detects and segments a baseline wandering interval using slope analysis and curve point detection, second, approximates the wandering in the interval as a sinusoid, and then subtracts the sinusoid from signal. Finally, ecg signals without baseline wander are obtained. In order to evaluate the performance of the algorithm, several ECG signals with baseline wandering in MIT/BIH ECG database 101, 111, 113, 234 record were chosen and applied to the algorithm. It is found that the algorithm removes baseline wanders effectively without significant morphological distortion.

  • A new algorithm classifying ECG Arrhythmia signals using Back-propagation network is proposed. The base-line of ECG signal is detected by high pass filter and probability density function then input data are normalized for learning and classifying. In addition, ECG data are scanned to classify Arrhythmia signal which is hard to find R-wave. A two-layer perceptron with one hidden layer along with error back-propagation learning rule is utilized as an artificial neural network. The proposed algorithm shows outstanding performance under circumstances of amplitude variation, baseline wander and noise contamination.

  • Total magnetic field measurements were performed to study paleomagnetism of three seamounts (OSM7, OSM8-1, and OSM8-2) to the northwest of the Marshall Islands in the western Pacific. The study area is located at the Ogasawara Fracture Zone which is a boundary between the Pigafetta and East Mariana basins. The magnetic parameters and paleopoles of three seamounts were derived from inversion of the measured magnetic field. The goodness-of-fit ratio of OSM7 is too low to be included to the estimation of parameters. The complex magnetic anomalies of center, scarcity of flank rift zones and steep slope at OSM7 suggest that the multiple intrusions of magma converge into the center of volcanic edifice. Inclination calculated from the magnetic anomalies of OSM8-1 and OSM8-2 is $-41.2^{\circ}$, and the paleolatitude calculated from the inclination is $23.6^{\circ}S$. The corresponding paleopoles for OSM8-1 and OSM8-2 are $(24^{\circ}42'W,\;48^{\circ}54'N)\;and\;(18^{\circ}18'W,\;48^{\circ}30'N)$, respectively. In comparison with the apparent polar wander path (APWP) of the Pacific plate, the paleopoles are close to 129-Ma pole. The paleopoles and paleolatitudes of OSM8-1 and OSM8-2 suggest that they were formed at similar time and location. The seamounts have drifted northward about $41^{\circ}$ from the paleolatitude to present latitude of seamounts.

  • This study identifies a basic framework to analyze specific experiences of examinees so that which nurses are better able to understand reactions of examinees and, further, to provide better nursing treatments to them. This study follows Strauss & Corbin's analysis tool (1990). This basic framework identifies the specific mental reactions in a process away from the "being tightened" state. The main factors explaining this process include the 28 following variables : anxiety, being burdened, being suppressed, lack of agency, being suffocated, term pressure, expectation pressure, grade pressure, firmness, feebleness, helping others, being disturbed, watching others, off ficiousness, staightening on, depending on, getting along with, getting out of, shooting out, giving up, being alone, devoting, bracing up, being industrious, being harassed, being distressed, troubles, and quiting. Twelve variables are factored from the above factors which include pressure, being tighened, terms, expectations, grades, will, friends, family, open-minded confrontation, close-minded confrontation, pursuing, and wandering around. The Examinees' state of being tightened is first developed, watched by others, and finally resolved causing students either to pursue (positive reactions) or to wander around (negative reactions). Based on the theoretical framework, the following sixteen hypotheses are developed : 1. Students are less tightened in the first term. 2. Students are more tightened in the second term. 3. Students with higher grades feel less tightened. 4. Students with lower grades feel more tightened. 5. Students with higher expectations feel more tightened. 6. Students with lower expectations feel less tightened. 7. Students who are less tightened confront open-mindedly. 8. Students who are higher tightened confront close-mindedly. 9. Students with a strong will confront open-mindedly. 10. Students with a weak will confront close-mindedly. 11. Students who have more sincere friends confront open-mindedly. 12. Students who have less sincere frieds confront close-mindedly. 13. Students with family support confront open-mindedly. 14. Students with little family support confront close-mindedly. 15. Students confronting open-mindedly pursue. 16. Students confronting close-mindedly wander. We identify the following four relations from the data analysis : 1. Students with average grades in their first term are more tightened from high expectations and have a tendency to wander if they have less supporting families even if they also have a strong will and sincere friends. 2. Students with low grades in their second term are less tighened because of low expectations and have a tendency to wander if they have a weak will and few sincere friends even if they have strong family support. 3. Students with high grades in their second term are more tightened with high expectations and have a tendency to pursue confrontations open-mindedly if they have supporting families and a strong will even if they have few sincere friends. 4. Students with average grades in their first term are less tightened from fewer expectations and have a tendency to pursue confrontations open-mindedly when they have more supporting families and sincere friends even if they have a weak will. A Student's degree of being tightened are affected by grades, terms, and expectations. Being tightened is resolved positively or negatively based on will, friends, and family. We conclude that will, family support, and sincere friends cause students to confront "being tightened" open-mindedly. We also conclude that practical nursing for students who are tightened have to focus on creating environments in which students are able to confront open-mindedly.

  • In ubiquitous computing environment the biological signal ECG (Electrocardiogram signal) is usually recorded with noise components. Adaptive interference (or noise) canceller do adaptive filtering of the noise reference input to maximally match and subtract out noise or interference from the primary (signal plus noise) input thereby adaptively eliminate unwanted interference from the ECG signal. Measured Stress ECG (or exercise ECG signal) signal have three major noisy component like baseline wander noise, motion artifact noise and EMG (Electro-mayo-cardiogram) noise. These noises are not only distorted signal but also root of incorrect diagnosis while ECG data are analyzed. Motion artifact and EMG noises behave like wide band spectrum signals, and they considerably do overlapping with the ECG spectrum. Here the multidimensional adaptive method used for filtering which is more effective to improve signal to noise ratio.

  • This paper describes the obstacle avoidance architecture to walk safely around in factory and home environment, and presents methods for path planning and obstacle avoidance for the humanoid robot. Solving the problem of obstacle avoidance for a humanoid robot in an unstructured environment is a big challenge, because the robot can easily lose its stability or fall down if it hits or steps on an obstacle. We briefly overview the general software architecture composed of perception, short and long term memory, behavior control, and motion control, and emphasize on our methods for obstacle detection by plane extraction, occupancy grid mapping, and path planning. A main technological target is to autonomously explore and wander around in home environments as well as to communicate with humans.

  • It is well known that the surface tension forces can make a particle denser than water float when the size of the particle is of the order of 1 mm. This is deeply related to the basic mechanism enabling small insects to wander around on the pond surface and also to a newly emerging technology of self-assembly using capillary forces. For the quantitative understanding of this effect, we experimentally study the maximum density of a cylinder that can float on water and how fast the cylinder sinks when the density exceeds the maximum value. We compare our experimental results with the theoretical prediction and find good agreement between them.
