Dimensional Optimization of Electric Component in Ultra Thin-wall Injection Molding by Using Moldflow Simulation (초박육 사출성형에서 Moldflow 시뮬레이션을 활용한 전자부품의 형상 최적화)

  • Micro-structure components applied to various disciplines are steadily demanded with lighter weight and better quality. This is because that ultra thin-wall injection molding has been paid attention with a lot of benefits such as cost reduction, shorter process period, and so forth. However, this technology is complicate and difficult to obtain high quality of products compared with conventional injection molding due to warpage caused by uneven shrinkage and molecular orientation. Since warpage of products directly affects product quality and overall performance of devices, it is essential to predict deformation behavior to achieve high precision of molded products. Therefore, this study aims to find out adequate thin-wall mold design for FPC connector housing by employing Moldflow simulation before application. In addition, experimental research is performed by using a fabricated mold structure based on simulated results to prove accuracy and reliability of the suggested simulation for warpage analysis.

A Numerical Study on the Effects of Drug Ejection Velocity on Endovascular Thrombolysis

  • Direct injection of a fibrinolytic agent to the intraarterial thrombosis may increase the effectiveness of thrombolysis by enhancing the permeation of thrombolytic agents into the blood clot. Permeation of fibrinolytic agents into a clot is influenced by the surface pressure, which is determined by the injection velocity of fibrinolytic agents. In order to calculate the pressure distribution on the clot surface for different jet velocities (1, 3, 5 m/sec) and nozzle arrangements (1, 9, 17 nozzles), computational fluid dynamic methods were used. Thrombolysis of a clot was mathematically modeled based on the pressure and lysis front velocity relationship. Direct injection of a thrombolytic agent increased the speed of thrombolysis significantly and the effectiveness was increased as the ejecting velocity increased. The nine nozzles model showed about $20\%$ increase of the lysed volume, and the one and seventeen nozzles models did not show significant differences. The wall shear stress decreased as the number of nozzles increased, and the wall shear stress in most vessel wall was lower than 25 Pa. The results implied that thrombolysis could be accelerated by direct injection of a drug with the moderate velocity without damaging the blood vessel wall.

Effects of Port Fuel Injection Characteristics upon HC Emission in SI Engines (연료 분사 특성이 가솔린 엔진 HC 배출에 미치는 영향)

  • During cold operation, fuel injection in the intake port directly contributes to the unburned hydrocarbon formation in spark ignition engines. The relationship between injection parameters and HC emission behavior was investigated through a series of experiments. Spray behavior of port fuel injectors was characterized through a quantitative evaluation of mass concentration of liquid fuel by a patternator and PDA(Phase-Doppler. Anemometer). A 6-hole injector was found to produce finer spray than single hole injector. Using a purpose-built wall, the wetted fuel was measured, which was mostly affected by wall temperature. HC emissions were measured in a production engine varying coolant temperature$(20~80^{\circ}C)$, also with respect to the different types of injectors. In the 6-hole injector application, the engine produced less HC emission in low coolant temperature region. Though it produces much more amount of wetting fuel, it has the advantages of finer atomization quality. In high coolant temperature region, there was little effect by different types of injectors. The control schemes to reduce HC emissions during cold start could be suggested from the findings that the amount of fuel supply and HC emission could be reduced by utilizing fine spray and high intake wall temperature.

  • Conventional injection molding system for producing extremely thin-wall parts such as Light Guide Plates(LGP's) for mobile displays is at the limit of its capability due to its tendency to develop frozen layers and the critical speed of injection. The molten polymer in the cavity freezes quickly as its heat is rapidly transferred to the mold base. Many attempts have been tried in the past to overcome this problem. The present study used the injection/compression molding technology to produce a thin-wall part, with enhanced features such as an automated mechanism for cutting gates. As a result, the total cycle time was reduced by almost 35 seconds, resulting in a productivity increase by 30%.

A Study on Characteristics of Spray and Combustion of LPG and CNG about the Effect of Impingement-wall under Direct Injection Condition (직접분사 조건에서 충돌벽면이 미치는 영향에 대한 LPG와 CNG의 분무 및 연소 특성 연구)

  • Liquefied petroleum gas and compressed natural gas haven been regarded as promising alternative fuels because of no smoke, and they are also clean fuel for spark-ignited engine. In spark-ignited direct-injection engine, direct injection technology can increase engine volumetric efficiency significantly and also reduce necessity of throttle valve. This study designed combustion chamber equipped with visualization system. To improve ignition probability, the study designed to help three types of impingement-walls to form mixture. In doing so, LPG CNG-air mixture could be easily formed after spray-wall impingement and ignition probability increased too. The results of this study could contribute as basic resources of spark-ignited direct injection LPG and CNG engine design and optimization extensively.

Stability Analysis of Upper Structures by Soil Grouting (지반 그라우팅에 의한 상부구조물의 안전성 분석)

  • Transportation and further expansion of social infrastructure was needed along the development of urbanization and population concentration. To use the underground space due to the lack of availability of land, it is inevitable to intersect between present structure and tunnel during construction. Soil grouting is one of the ground improvement methods to reinforce weak soil around the underground structures by injection of grouting liquid. Some of central columns of an upper structure are damaged during injection of grouting liquid by injection pressure. To investigate and improve the stability of the tunnel, three dimensional analysis are performed with full construction stages which includes the construction of present underpass, damaging columns of the underpass, reinforcing the columns by H-pile and shear walls, and excavation and construct tunnel. The arrangement of grouting holes such as curtain and horizontal type affects largely to the stability of upper structure and horizontal arrangement diminish the shear forces which is the cause of damage of central columns. The liquid injection type of reinforcement for tunnel is not recommended while the presence of upper structure with columns. Wall type reinforcing is utilize for permant support of upper structures which is affected by grouting injection pressure. H-pile is utilize for temporary support, but not for permanent since the sharing of shear forces is not much to shear wall during tunnel construction.

  • The effect of variable viscosity on MHD mixed convection Hiemenz flow over a thermally stratified porous wedge plate has been studied in the presence of suction or injection. The wall of the wedge is embedded in a uniform Darcian porous medium in order to allow for possible fluid wall suction or injection and has a power-law variation of the wall temperature. An approximate numerical solution for the steady laminar boundary-layer flow over a wall of the wedge in the presence of thermal diffusion has been obtained by solving the governing equations using numerical technique. The fluid is assumed to be viscous and incompressible. Numerical calculations are carried out for different values of dimensionless parameters and an analysis of the results obtained shows that the flow field is influenced appreciably by the magnetic effect, variable viscosity, thermal stratification and suction / injection at wall surface. Effects of these major parameters on the transport behaviors are investigated methodically and typical results are illustrated to reveal the tendency of the solutions. Comparisons with previously published works are performed and excellent agreement between the results is obtained.

Wall Impingement Phenomena of a Fuel Spray Injected by an EFI Injector (EFI 인젝터에 의한 연료분무의 벽면충돌 특성)

  • In a port fuel injection system of engine, a large part of fuel injected into an intake port adheres on its wall and inlet valve. Consequently, the wall impinging spray interaction might occur the generation of several harmful phenomena. There are uncontrollable mixture formation, an accidental backfire and unburned hydrocarbons. Therefore, it is important to analyze the fuel behavior during the spray-wall interaction. In this study, splash characteristics of impingement and reflecting or scattering behavior of droplets of fuel injected from EFI nozzle were studied experimentally. A test fuel used is LAWS and its physical characteristics are similar to the conventional gasoline except for the ignition point. Since the liquid film formed immediately after impinging on an impingement plate is unstable, it is easy to cause secondary disintegration. In addition, when the intermittently impingement on the impingement plate with LAWS, the splash ratio is around 0.6. If an injection period becomes longer, liquid film will become thick and the splash ratio will fall bout 10 percent. On the other hand, when the injection period of an intermittent spray is long, the same time lapse as a continuous spray is shown.

  • Large eddy simulation was conducted for flow development in a chamber with wall injection which simulates the cold flow in an idealized hybrid rocket motor. It was found that a peculiar timescale, roughly corresponding to St~0.5, resides in the flowfield resulting from the interaction between the main oxidizer and wall injected flows. However, the fact that this time characteristics is absent in the temperature field in the vicinity of the wall indicates that even a small regression rate renders the passive scalar, such as temperature, dissimilar to the velocity field. This implies that a classical approach, which assumes that constant turbulent Prandtl number, should be replaced by a more sophisticated turbulence models to accurately predict the temperature field in the hybrid motor.

  • The MPI dual injection engine can enhance the fuel efficiency and engine power. By using one injector per one intake port, MPI dual injection engine has an excellent fuel atomization and targeting injection. As the basic research for the MPI Dual injection engine design, this research was investigated in order to understand the characteristic of the in-cylinder flow and fuel behavior according to engine temperature condition and the fuel type in the MPI dual injection engines. The 3D unsteady CFD simulation for the MPI Dual injection engine was performed using STAR-CD. The engine operating condition was 2,000 rpm/WOT. The parameters for this study were fuel types, fuel temperatures and wall temperatures. As a result, the intake air amount, evaporated fuel in the cylinder and the fuel film on the wall were presented according to parameters that depend on the fuel properties and engine wall temperature. Also, the results were influenced by in-cylinder flow such as the intake flow, back flow and so on.
