  • This study is carried out to investigate the characteristics of sound insulation performances for masonry walls. PC walls and ALC walls. For these purposes. 17 types of masonry walls were selected and tested in accordance with KS F 2808 at reverberation room The sound insulation performance of 8" cement block walls are graded with D-45 ∼ D-55 which are to be evaluated very favorable grade. 4" cement block walls are D-30 ∼ D-40. 1 B cement brick walls are D-40∼D-50 favorable grade. 0.5 B brick walls are D-30∼D-45. 150 mm PC wall is D-50. and ALC walls(150 mm, 200 mm) are D-30∼D-45.

  • Before incorporating the earthquake-resistance design in design code(998), most of existing residential buildings were built without having lateral resistance capacity in addition to their structural peculiarity such as exterior stair ways, exterior elevator room. For these reasons, the retrofitting research demands for existing buildings arise recently and many retrofitting methods are proposed. These tasks are important to reduce the enormous economic loss and environmental issues. In this study, Scaled residential buildings with/without lateral resistance were tested and monitored with external lateral load especially toward the longer side of the building. From these experiments, enhanced retrofitting methods of old shear wall system are proposed and also compared with structural analysis.

  • A numerical study was made to choose the better turbulence model for the flow in the discharge flow path from a diffuser to a wall. In this study standard $\kappa-\epsilon$ model(SKE), RNG $\kappa-\epsilon$ model(RNG), and Reynolds stress model(RSM) were applied. In case of the flow with relatively high Reynolds number at a diffuser inlet, the pressure loss coefficients by RNG have a tendency to be near to those by SKE at small ratio(below about 0.35) of $h/D_o$, but to those by RSM at large ratio(above about 0.35). At large ratio RNG begins to enlarge the effects of rapid strain and streamline curvature. RNG & RSM are recommended as the appropriate turbulence models for this case. But it is noticeable that the velocity gradient pattern in RNG is same as in SKE, and also that the total pressure distribution in RNG is same as in RSM only at swirling flow area, same as in SKE only at main flow area.

  • The feature scale model for selective chemical vapor deopsition process was proposed and the simulation was performed to study the selectivity and uniformity of deposited thin film using Monte Carlo method and string algorithm. The effect of model parameters such as sticking coefficient, aspect ratio, and surface diffusion coefficient on the deposited thin film pattern was improved for lower sticking coefficient and higher aspect ratio. It was revealed that the selectivity loss ascrives to the surface diffusion. Different values of sticking coefficients on Si and on SiO2 surface greatly influenced the deopsited thin film profile. In addition, as the lateral wall angle decreased, the selectively deposited film had improved uniformity except the vicinity of trench wall. The optimum eondition for the most flat selective film deposition pattern is the case with low sticking coefficient and slightly increased surface diffusion coefficient.

  • Past high speed wind events have exposed the vulnerability of the roof systems of existing light-framed wood structures to uplift loading, contributing greatly to economic and human loss. This paper further investigates the behaviour of light-framed wood structures under the uplift loading of a realistic pressure distribution. A three-dimensional finite-element model is first developed to capture the behaviour of a recently completed full-scale experiment. After describing the components used to develop the numerical model, a comparison between the numerical prediction and experimental results in terms of the deflected shape at the roof-to-wall connections is presented to gain confidence in the numerical model. The model is then used to analyze the behaviour of the truss system under realistic and equivalent uniform pressure distributions and to perform an assessment of the use of the tributary area method to calculate the withdrawal force acting on the roof-to-wall connections.

  • This Study is the consideration for new formwork assembly method in Bearing Wall System. It is consisted of two parts. one is researched into an ordinary formwork system and suggested a new formwork system. The other makes an investigation into the resisting capacity of proposed method by experimental and field test. For the application of this method to the field, it is expected to improve workability and safety, and to reduce the loss of labor.

  • It has been reported that the size and characteristics of ferroelectric domains which have an essential role on the ferroelectric properties depend on the grain size of ferrolectric ceramics. Therefore understanding the change of domain characteristics with grain size is so important to know the dependence of dielectric constant, dielectric loss and aging on the grain size. In this research, the equilibrim domain with is calculated as d={{{{ SQRT { { 64 pi sigma a} over {3C11Ss2 } } }}. This calculated value is nearly same to the measured value of BaTiO3 and Pb(Zr0.4Ti0.6)O3 ceramics 90$^{\circ}$domain wall width. The calculated 90$^{\circ}$domain wall enerygy in Pb(Zr0.4Ti0.6)O3 which is obtained through the model is approximately 2$\times$10-2J/$m^2$.

  • In this paper, we have proposed an automatic inspection system for cracks on the surface of a structure. The proposed system consists of the imaging system and the veh~cle system. The imaging system. a set of optical sensor, lens, illuminator, storage and their configuration, images the scene and store it on the hard disk. We adopted a linescan camera of 5000 pixel density to achieve high resolution without loss of simplicity. The vehicle system that moves the optical system IS ~mplemented by an AGV. The AGV moves forward at constant velocity and avoid obstacles to acquire a stable image. We have cmplemented an experimental system and have acquired images of the wall of hallway. The image is of 0.1-mmipixel resolution and the scanning time IS about 1 mlsec. The allow able scan.

  • In this paper, FSTL(field sound transmission loss) measured in the mock-up is studied and compared to the STL measured in laboratory. A mock-up is built by using 6t steel plate, and two identical cabins are made where 25t or 50t panel is used to construct wall and ceiling inside the steel structure. Various wall panels and ceilings are tested, where the effects of U/T, sealing, panel thickness, ceilings are studied. It is shown that the effect of ceiling thickness is negligible and FSTL is lower than STL by 5-7 dB due to several flanking paths.

  • Rice straw treated with anhydrous ammonia and/or sulphur dioxide was incubated with rumen liquor for 24 hours and 48 hours to investigate the changes in cell wall structure caused by the treatments and bacterial degradation using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A less significant tissue loss of untreated rice straw was inspected after incubated for 24 hours and 48 hours. Sulphuration decreased the thickness of sclerenchyma and apparently removed parenchyma tissues. Ammoniation degraded the phloem, and the lignified inner portion of the cell wall was completely, however, little collapsed epidemis and vascular bundles. Ammonia and Sulphur dioxide combined treatment removed the inner layer from outer layer. The extent of apparent degradability following combination treatment was the largest due to the enhanced microbial degradation of sclerenchyma and parenchyma cells.
