  • Convective heat transfer coefficient was measured around a secondary jet ejected into the supersonic flow field. Wall temperature distribution was measured on the surface, which the constant heat flux condition is applied. According to jet to freestream momentum ratio, the secondary flow was penetrated into the supersonic flow field. During the test, two dimensional thermal image of a wall temperature is taken by an infra-red camera. Experiments were performed under the testing condition of freestream Mach number of about 3, stagnation pressure of 630 kPa and Reynolds number of $3.0{\times}10^6$.

  • Experimental results and numerical computations were conducted to investigate the effect of the confined wall on the flow and heat transfer characteristics for a two-dimensional impinging jet. Experimental results and Numerical solutions were obtained by using the particle image velocimetry and the commercial CFD code (CFX 11), respectively. The parameters studied were jet Reynolds number (Re=5,000), conditions of confined wall (unventilate), nozzle to plate spacings ($H/W=1{\sim}16$), and nozzle to nozzle spacing (S/W=6). Experimental and numerical results were agreed well with each other. The maximum heat transfer point was found variation of nozzle to plate spacings.

  • Oil-film surface flow visualizations and three-dimensional flow measurements using a straight five-hole probe have been conducted for a circular impinging jet which is normally oriented to the crossflow in a channel. Throughout the experiments, the ratio of channel height to injection hole diameter, H/D, is fixed to be 1.0, and blowing ratio is varied to be 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0. From the surface flow visualizations for both top wall(target plate) and bottom wall, impinging jet region on the target plate can be clearly identified, and for the small value of H/D = 1.0, presence of the bottom wall changes the near-hole flow structure, significantly. The three-dimensional flow measurements show that in the dawnstream region of the injection hole, there exist a pair of counter-rotating vortices, called "scarf vortices", and the strength of the vortices strongly depends on the blowing ratio. In addition, a new flow model in the flow symmetry plane has been proposed for H/D = 1.0.

  • A study on the fire and smoke behavior on experiments and analysis through STAR-CD in using about behavior analysis of the smoke. Kerosene of 3L in using on the experimental garden of 30cm in diameter same applies to heat release rate(HRR), buoyant force by Plume can be calculated at a rate of 1m/s. The result of experiment in average of velocity were 0.29m/s, and interpreted result were 0.28m/s. Besides, it is proved by interpreted that behavior of smoke movement can be not observed in the experiment. After smoke is Plume increased, ceiling-jet in formation being descend in smoke layer will be more thick smoke layer, and then vertical wall is collapsed in formation of wall-jet being descend. It is defined that smoke layer is more thick through descending course in wall-jet and ceiling-jet.

  • The water jet impingement cooling is one of the techniques to remove heat from high heat flux equipments. We investigate the local heat transfer of the confined water impinging jet and the effect of nozzle collar to enhance the heat transfer in the free surface jet and submerged jet. Boiling is initiated from the furthest downstream and the wall temperature increase is reduced with developing boiling, forming the flat temperature distributions. The reduction in the nozzle-to-surface distance for $H/W{\leq}1$ causes the significant increases and distribution changes in heat transfer. Developed boiling reduces the differences in heat transfer for various conditions. The nozzle collar is employed at the nozzle exit. The distances from heated surface to guide plate, $H_c$ are 0.25W, 0.5W and 1.0W. The liquid film thickness is reduced and the velocity of wall jet increase as decreased spacing of collar to heated surface. Heat transfer is enhanced for region from the stagnation to $x/W{\sim}8$ in the free surface jet and to $x/W{\sim}5$ in the submerged jet. For nucleate boiling region of further downstream, the heat transfer by the nozzle collar is decreased in submerged jet compare with higher velocity condition. It is because the increased velocity by collar is de-accelerated at downstream.

  • Objective : The goal of this study was to compare several parameters, including wall shear stress (WSS) and flow pattern, between unruptured and ruptured anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysms using patient-specific aneurysm geometry. Methods : In total, 18 unruptured and 24 ruptured aneurysms were analyzed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models. Minimal, average, and maximal wall shear stress were calculated based on CFD simulations. Aneurysm height, ostium diameter, aspect ratio, and area of aneurysm were measured. Aneurysms were classified according to flow complexity (simple or complex) and inflow jet (concentrated or diffused). Statistical analyses were performed to ascertain differences between the aneurysm groups. Results : Average wall shear stress of the ruptured group was greater than that of the unruptured group (9.42% for aneurysm and 10.38% for ostium). The average area of ruptured aneurysms was 31.22% larger than unruptured aneurysms. Simple flow was observed in 14 of 18 (78%) unruptured aneurysms, while all ruptured aneurysms had complex flow (p<0.001). Ruptured aneurysms were more likely to have a concentrated inflow jet (63%), while unruptured aneurysms predominantly had a diffused inflow jet (83%, p=0.004). Conclusion : Ruptured aneurysms tended to have a larger geometric size and greater WSS compared to unruptured aneurysms, but the difference was not statistically significant. Flow complexity and inflow jet were significantly different between unruptured and ruptured ACoA aneurysms.

  • Experiments have been conducted to determine the flow and heat transfer characteristics for a two-dimensional turbulent wall attaching offset jet at different oblique angles to a flat surface. The distributions of the wall static pressure coefficient and time-averaged reattachment position for various offset ratios and oblique angles have been measured. The local Nusselt number distributions on the plate surface were also measured using liquid crystal as a temperature indicator. The new hue-capturing technique utilizing a true color image processing system was used to accurately determine the temperature of the liquid crystal. The experiments were carried out at Reynolds number, Re (based on D) of from 7300 to 21,300 with offset ratio, H/D from 2.5 to 10, and oblique angle, .alpha. from 0 deg. to 400 deg..

  • The prediction performance of the chemical kinetics for the numerical simulation of MILD combustion was investigated. A wall-confined turbulent methane jet combustor was adopted as a configuration. Four chemical kinetics, such as a global 3-step, WD4, Skeletal, and DRM-19, were investigated, The air stream of the wall-confined MILD jet combustor was diluted with combustion products. It was found that the DRM-19 was optimal for the numerical simulation of the MILD combustion.
