The purposes of this study are as follows: 1) To estimate the amounts of differences in service expenditures resulting from the effects of mother's marital and employment status. 2) To find out the relationship of socio-economic variables to expenditures for time-saving durables and services Data were taken from the 1988-1989 Consumer Expenditure Survey. The sample consisted of 2,216 families with 334 single-mother families and 1,792 married-mother families. Tobit regres-sion analyses were used to test of variables related to expenditures for (a) food away from home. (b) clothing care (c) child care (d) domestic services and (e) total services. The results of this study were as follows; 1) The percentage difference from non-employed married-mother families was higher for employed single-mother families than for other types of families indicating the positive effect on expenditures on market substitutes of mother's marital and employment status. 2) The father's wage rate was associated only with expenditures for domestic services. A positive relationship was found between family nonlabor income and domestic services Total family income was positively associated with expenditues for all dependent variables. There was a negative relationship between expenditures for child care and age of mother squared. Mother's education was associated with expenditures in all categories. Families of nonwhite spent less on time-saving durables. food away from home, and total services and spent more on apparel services than families of white mothers. The presence of young child was positively related to total services and child care services and negatively related to food away from home.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to classify the elderly in long-term care facilities using the Resource Utilization Group(RUG-III) and to examine the feasibility of a payment method based on the RUG-III classification system in Korea. Method: This study measured resident characteristics using a Resident Assessment Instrument-Minimum Data Set(RAI-MDS) and staff time. Data was collected from 530 elderly residents over sixty, residing in long-term care facilities. Resource use for individual patients was measured by a wage-weighted sum of staff time and the total time spent with the patient by nurses, aides, and physiotherapists. Result: The subjects were classified into 4 groups out of 7 major groups. The group of Clinically Complex was the largest (46.3%), and then Reduced Physical Function(27.2%), Behavior Problems (17.0%), and Impaired Cognition (9.4%) followed. Homogeneity of the RUG-III groups was examined by total coefficient of variation of resource use. The results showed homogeneity of resource use within RUG-III groups. Also, the difference in resource use among RUG major groups was statistically significant (p<0.001), and it also showed a hierarchy pattern as resource use increases in the same RUG group with an increase of severity levels(ADL). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the RUG-Ill classification system differentiates resources provided to elderly in long-term care facilities in Korea.
This paper aims at identifying the positive economic effects of the tenant system. Increasing numbers of tenant farms is one of the characteristic aspects of Korean agriculture. They have increased 3.7 percent annually since 1960. At the end of 1985, 64.7 percent of the Korean farmers leased partly or entirely the farm land which they managed, and 30.5 percent of the total arable area was cultivated under the tenant system. To find out the difference in performance of management between land owners and tenants, 600 farm households were selected as samples throughout Chungnam province. Among those sampled were 300 land owners and 300 tenants. Tenants defined this paper include not only full tenants but also part tenants. The results of this study are summarized as; First, rice is the main income resource of tenant farms. Due to their rental charges, the marketable surplus of farm products might be lower than that of land owners. Whereas 40 percent of the landowners income is from rice production, the tenants income from rice production is 43 percent. Second, tenants continue to depend on more agricultural wage incoms and more double crop incomes in paddy fields than land owners. Third, like most poor people in the third world, they have maximized their incomes and minimized their expenditures by saving management costs. Finally, there was no interlinking between landlords and tenants especially related to credit supports. Most farmers in the surveyed area have met their credit requirements from agricultural cooperatives.
Purpose: Global economic integration has provided good opportunities and conditions for the development of foreign direct investment in Finances. Therefore, this paper attempts to explore what determines foreign direct investment in Finances of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. Research design, data and methodology: This paper employs the panel data over the period 2005-2017 and uses the random effect model to estimate this proposition. Results: The results indicate that the foreign direct investment in services, growth rate of GDP, interest rate and saving are positively related with foreign direct investment in finances. Conversely, the growth rate of wage and fluctuation rate of exchange rate are negatively related with foreign direct investment in finances. Moreover, the results verify that the effect of these variables on foreign direct investment in finances is different before and after 2008 (global economic crisis). In addition, the results also manifest that the regional effect exists. Namely, the effect of these variables on foreign direct investment in finances between G7 countries and G20 countries exist significant difference. Conclusions: Those variables used in this paper are related with foreign direct investment in Finances of (OECD) countries.
According to this study, Korean food department rather than Western food department and business department rather than food & beverage department is more separated with the greater difference. It is surveyed that the main reason to separate from food service is dissatisfaction to wage followed by six reasons. In the light of management the separation of employees gives management a positive aspect, but the separation of necessary employees bring about a big problem. That the separation rate of food service industry which greatly depends on personal service is high causes many bottleneck to development of food service industry. If the saparation rate of employees is high, it is difficult to maintain consistency of service quality. It is impossible to think that immature service new employee gives customer strong impression. Subsequently the spending of time and cost to train new employees and management reproaching supervisors makes morale of employees dropped. That is why the very this influences selling. To improve the vicious cycle of that serve absence in food service Operators of food service industry should be escaped from their fixed ideas. It is time to need management consciousness which wants to have real content rather than external growth. It is revealed that more than 80% of investment of most of food service industry goes to facility investment. A part of the investment cost should be invested to foster professional manpower. And if employees can have owner consciousness by continuous support and positive investment in training which can give real intention to their lives and vocational pride, it is believed that the future of food service industry in Korea is promising.
This paper attempts to analyze the early retirement in the OECD countries and discuss implication of that in the old age policy in Korea. The increase of the early retirement in the almost all OECD countries is a common fact. Especially the rate of early retirement rapidly increased in the 1980s, mostly reflecting the high rate of unemployment and states' policies to reduce it. However, it varies across countries: the unemployment compensation pathway in France, the mixture of social assistance and private insurance in England, VUT in Netherland, the privatization of the early retirement in the U. S., and partial retirement and labor market policy in Sweden. The early retirement in the advanced countries contributes to de-institutionalization and de-standardization in life course model. It resulted in the erosion of the ordinary conception that the retirement was the beginning of the old age. And the last phase of life course became blurred. With respect to the problem of the early retirement, there is a big difference between Korea and the OECD countries. Above all, the retirement age is 55 years in many companies and the public pension is not universalized in Korea. Accordingly the policy for income security of the old age in Korea should be connected with social security policy such as the gradual extension of the retirement age and the expansion of the public pension and labor market policy such as job training for the old age, transformation of the seniority wage system etc.
The prolonged coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) has caused serious problems such as job losses and youth unemployment, but as the fourth industrial revolution and digital transformation accelerate, the importance of SW is highlighted and more qualified jobs are expected in the SW industry. However, domestic SW companies are having difficulties in not properly recognizing the value of SW products. Among many related issues, commercial SW maintenance-related issues are representative, and the main problem is the difference in the maintenance fee rates between domestic and foreign SW. In this study, the expected job creation effect when the SW maintenance rate is raised was analyzed using data related to the SW industry and commercial software. As a result of the analysis, the amount required to raise the commercial SW maintenance rate by 1% is 162 billion won. If all of these are used for employment, the expected new job creation effect is 3,240 jobs per year, and 15,451 jobs are created per year when calculated and estimated as the effect of increasing sales through the employment inducement coefficient. In addition, the amount required to raise the current average maintenance rate of 11.1% to 15% is 631.9 billion won, and it was possible to estimate the effect of creating jobs for 12,648 people based on the simple average wage and 60,259 people from the sales increase effect.
This study examined how firms responded to the articles regarding the prohibition or correction of discrimination against fixed-term workers in the 'fixed-term worker protection law', which has been effective since July of 2007 in Korea. Data used cone from the Korean Workplace Survey, and a difference-in-differences method was employed for the identification of the causal effect, noting that the 'discrimination prohibition law' has been applied to firms over stages based on their sizes. The empirical results show no strong evidence that the law played a positive role in reducing differentials between permanent workers and fixed-term workers in the areas of wage and various employee benefits, including the provision of severance pay, annual leave, and 4 major social insurances for fixed-term workers. A more thorough future analysis on the causes of the insignificant impact of the law in some employee welfare benefits, along with supplemental policies, is needed to have the law achieve the desired goal of removing discrimination at the workplace.
