  • 스마트폰에 내장되고 있는 Symbian OS, Windows CE .NET, Palm OS와 같이 멀티태스킹을 기본적으로 지원하면서, 다양한 멀티미디어 데이터 서비스의 지원, IPv4, Bluetooth 와 같은 다양한 네트워킹 기술 지원, 데스크 탑 PC와의 데이터 호환 기능 등이 제공되는 최신의 모바일 운영체제들이 개발되면서 멀티미디어 중심의 이동통신 서비스의 변환을 촉진시키고 있다. 이러한 고성능의 모바일 OS들의 기능으로 인한 위피(WIPI)나 퀄컴사의 브루(Brew)와 같은 무선인터넷플랫폼과의 관계를 제시하고 향후 발전 방향과 구조를 제시하고자 한다.

  • 현재 국내의 모바일 플랫폼 기술은 세계 최고이지만, 3개의 이동통신 사업자를 중심으로 다수 플랫폼이 경합을 벌이고 있으며, 이로 인해 컨텐츠 개발자들은 하나의 컨텐트를 다수의 플랫폼용으로 개발해야 하는 부담이 증가하고 있다. 이에 컨텐츠 프로바이더와 이동통신 3사의 요구에 의해 새로운 표준 플랫폼의 개발이 진행되고 있다. 본 고에서는 모바일 플랫폼의 개념 및 국내외 현황을 분석하고, 한국 무선 인터넷 표준화 포럼에서 진행 중인 모바일 플랫폼 표준화 현황을 살펴본다.

  • 본 논문에서는 감시 장소의 기준 영상과 현재 영상의 블록별 특징 값만을 비교하여 영상을 검출하고 이 영상을 모바일 클라이언트로 전송하기 위해서 WAP 풀 기반 영상전송 방법을 사용하여 WIPI SDK로 구현함으로써 감시 영상의 변환과 전송을 실시간으로 구현할 수 있었다. 또한, 소형 화상 카메라를 이용하여 PC상에서 구현할 수 있도록 함으로써 저렴한 비용으로 시스템 구축이 가능하도록 하였다.

  • 응용프로그램 로더와 동적 링커는 응용프로그램이 실제로 실험되기까지의 준비 과정을 담당하는 프로그램들이다. 최근의 WIPI 표준은 휴대폰에 새로운 응용프로그램을 전송 받아 수행할 수 있는 환경을 제안하고 있지만, 휴대폰과 같은 제한된 이동단말기에서 사용할 안한 로더와 동적 링커는 공개되어 있지 않다. 본 논문에서는 이동단말기 환경에서 응용프로그램 로더와 동적 링커를 개발하는 과정을 설명한다. 개발에 참가한 연구진의 경험을 소개함으로써 이후의 비슷한 환경에서 로더와 링커를 개발하려는 연구자들에게 중요한 참고자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • Beyond a simple voice service, the advances in performance and resolution of mobile handsets provides us various features in the field of mobile services. Also, advances in the human-machine interface, electronics and embedded system technologies have created the foundation for a dramatic shift in the way the vehicles are diagnosed and maintained. In this paper, we will show the vehicle diagnostic system using the mobile handset based on the OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics version II) protocol. After 2005, OBD-II standard is obligatory for all vehicles selling in Korea. Our research topics are OBD-II protocol converter for the mobile handset and the vehicle diagnostics system on WIPI(Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability) mobile platform, which is the standard mobile platform in Korea.

Novel functional roles of caspase-related genes in the regulation of apoptosis and autophagy

  • Caspases, a family of cysteine proteases, cleave substrates and play significant roles in apoptosis, autophagy, and development. Recently, our group identified 72 genes that interact with Death Caspase-1 (DCP-1) proteins in Drosophila by genetic screening of 15,000 EP lines. However, the cellular functions and molecular mechanisms of the screened genes, such as their involvement in apoptosis and autophagy, are poorly understood in mammalian cells. In order to study the functional characterizations of the genes in human cells, we investigated 16 full-length human genes in mammalian expression vectors and tested their effects on apoptosis and autophagy in human cell lines. Our studies revealed that ALFY, BIRC4, and TAK1 induced autophagy, while SEC61A2, N-PAC, BIRC4, WIPI1, and FALZ increased apoptotic cell death. BIRC4 was involved in both autophagy and apoptosis. Western blot analysis and luciferase reporter activity indicated that ALFY, BIRC4, PDGFA, and TAK1 act in a p53-dependent manner, whereas CPSF1, SEC61A2, N-PAC, and WIPI1 appear to be p53-independent. Overexpression of BIRC4 and TAK1 caused upregulation of p53 and accumulation of its target proteins as well as an increase in p53 mRNA levels, suggesting that these genes are involved in p53 transcription and expression of its target genes followed by p53 protein accumulation. In conclusion, apoptosis and/or autophagy mediated by BIRC4 and TAK1 may be regulated by p53 and caspase activity. These novel findings may provide valuable information that will aid in a better understanding of the roles of caspase-related genes in human cell lines and be useful for the process of drug discovery.

  • This thesis aims to realize an intelligent home service robot that alerts the user to dangerous situations such as fires and gas leaks by utilizing wireless internet platforms in a cellular phone. The intelligent home service robot is composed of the following parts: The robot part consists of a gas sensor, a fire detector, a smoke sensor, ultrasonic sensors, motors, a camera and a Blue-tooth module and perceives various danger circumstances; The middleware part connects the robot part with the mobile part through the middleware applications, monitors the robot and notifies an emergency situation using SMS modules; The mobile part communicates with the middleware using TCP/IP protocol and controls the robot through various commands; The proposed scheme is to control the sensors of the robot part through and Atmega128 processor, and the mobile part was developed based on the WIPI platform. The robot and middleware parts will be installed in the household, and will be controled by mobile part from the outside.

  • Among the various application to use FRID, the parking control system widely uses it recently. However, it is rare for the existing systems to integrate several parking lot in the clustered shopping center. This paper proposes the integrated parking control system based on RFID. The system searches optimal path to parking lot with due regard to the position of users who own a tag and the status of parking lots. Then, it transmits the path to mobile devices of the users. The system consists of main server, middle ware to filter and manage tag information, parking lot client to send and manage the status of each parking lot and application module of mobile devices based on WIPI for displaying the optimal path. The main server integrates these components by a database and a new method to filters and manage tag information is newly proposed for the sake of maintaining the position and the direction of the cars in the middle ware. The implemented system shows that it is highly expected to be useful in an advanced integrated parking control system.

  • Performance of the mobile devices greatly depends on the efficient resource management because they are usually resource-restricted. In particular, the dynamic storage allocation algorithms very important part of the mobile device's operating system and OS-like software platform. The existing dynamic storage allocation algorithms did not consider application's execution style and the type, life-time, and characteristics of memory objects that the application uses. Those algorithms, as a result, could not manage memory efficiently Therefore, this Paper analyzes the mobile application's execution characteristics and proposes anew dynamic storage allocation algorithm which saves the memory space and improves mobile application's execution speed. The test result shows that the proposed algorithm works 6.5 times faster than the linked-list algorithm[11], 2.5 times faster better than the Doug. Lea's algorithm[12] and 10.5 times faster than the Brent algorithm[14].
