  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop assertiveness training applying Dongsasub training for junior nursing students, and to verify effectiveness of the training on assertiveness behavior, self-esteem, clinical practice stress, and clinical competence. Methods: The study design was a non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design. Participants were 63 nursing students in clinical training (31 students in the experimental group and 32 students in the control group). The assertiveness training applying Dongsasub training consisted of four sessions. Outcome variables included assertiveness behavior, self-esteem, clinical practice stress, and clinical competence. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, Fisher's exact test and independent samples t-test with SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: Scores of assertiveness behavior (t=-2.49, p=.015), self-esteem (t=-4.80, p <.001) and clinical competence (t=-2.33, p=.023) were significantly higher and clinical practice stress (t=4.22, p <.001) was significantly lower in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: Results indicate that the assertiveness training applying Dongsasub training can be used as a nursing intervention to lower clinical practice stress and improve the clinical competence of nursing students.

  • The Purpose of this study was to identify the educational effects of cardiopulmonary resuscitation using a PC skill-reporting system on the knowledge, Self-efficacy and skill performance ability of nursing students. The Participants were 57 nursing students from G metropolitan city, an experimental group of 29 subjects, and a control group of 28 students who were randomly sampled. Data were collected from 3 to 12 July of, 2013, and theory education and skill exposure programs for the experimental and control groups were conducted for 60 min. three times a week. The, PC skill-reporting system was used only with the experimental group. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN version 20.0 using ${\chi}^2$-tests, Fisher's exact probability tests, paired t-tests and t-tests. In the comparison of the two groups, the knowledge(t=-2.39, p=.022), self-efficacy (t=-3.45, p<.001) and skill performance ability(t=-2.52, p=.012) of the experiment group were significantly higher than those of the control group. Therefore, the adoption of instructional methods using a PC skill-reporting system is required to maximize the effects of cardiopulmonary resuscitation instruction.

Method: A convenience sample of 20 elderly, participated in the study from a community health center located in an urban city, South Korea. SPSS/WIN 17.0 was used for descriptive analysis, paired t-test and Pearson correlation. Results: After 8 weeks exercise program, perceived health status (t=0.48, p<.001), depression (t=-0.93, p=.001), life satisfaction (t=1.01, p=.002 and physical strength (t=1.70, 0.70, 0.72, all p<.001) in elderly were significantly improved. Three were significant correlations between depression and perceived health status (r=-.63, p=.004) and life satisfaction (r=-.70, p=.001). Conclusion: Further are warranted to validate the effects of a rhythmic exercise program for the elderly in a larger sample.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to exam the effects of nursing information about intensive care unit environment on ICU patient's environmental stress, anxiety and comfort. Methods: A non-equivalent control group with non-synchronized quasi-experimental research design was used. Participants were 60 (control 30, experimental 30) patients who admitted at ICU in one hospital in Gangneung. Experimental group was provided with nursing information about intensive care unit environment. To avoid contamination of the experiment, data for the control group were collected prior to the experimental group. Paired t-test, t-test, chi-square test were used to analyze the data using the SPSS WIN 19.0 Program. Results: ICU environmental stress (t=-.089, p=.045) and anxiety (t=-5.65, p<.001) were significantly more reduced than before intervention. Also, comfort (t=-2.98, p=.036) was significantly more improved than before intervention. Conclusion: It confirmed that nursing information on ICU environment is effective in reducing environmental stress, anxiety and improving comfort in ICU patients.

One group was 136 stroke patients and the other was 139 nurses. Data were collected with the Rehabilitation Nursing Service Inventory. The data were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The degree of importance and performance in rehabilitation nursing needs perceived by the stroke patients were $3.69{\pm}0.47$ and $3.48{\pm}0.50$, respectively, showing a significant difference (t=21.04, p<.001). The degree of importance and performance perceived by nurses were $3.84{\pm}0.42$ and $3.60{\pm}0.45$, respectively, showing a significant difference (t=26.53, p<.001). A significant difference in the degree of importance and performance in rehabilitation nursing needs was also observed between stroke patients and nurses (t=-2.78, p=.006; t=-2.12, p=.035). Conclusion: These findings showed that there was a perception gap between stroke patients and nurses. Therefore, it will necessary to identify methods for reducing this perception gap and developing rehabilitation nursing intervention considering the rehabilitation nursing needs of stroke patients.

  • Purpose: This study was to evaluate the effects of smoking prevention education on primary school students. Method: This study used a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 189 6th graders of two primary schools, of them, 97 were assigned to the experimental group and 92 were assigned to the control group. Smoking prevention education was applied in 7 sessions for 40 minutes every week. Survey was conducted before and one week after the smoking prevention education to examine student's knowledge of smoking, attitude, and smoking cessation intention. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and $x^2-test$, t-test using the SPSS Win 10.0 program. Results: After the completion of the smoking prevention education, there were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in smoking knowledge (t=2.651, p=.009), but smoking attitude (t=-.492, p=.623) and smoking cessation intention (t=-.425, p=.671) were not statistically significant between the two groups. Conclusion: The smoking prevention education for primary school students increased their knowledge on smoking but didn't have any significant impact on changing their smoking attitude and smoking cessation intention. Further study on longitudinal effect is recommended and the smoking prevention education should be provided continuously at school.
