3GPP LTE-Assisted Wi-Fi-Direct: Trial Implementation of Live D2D Technology

  • This paper is a first-hand summary on our comprehensive live trial of cellular-assisted device-to-device (D2D) communications currently being ratified by the standards community for next-generation mobile broadband networks. In our test implementation, we employ a full-featured 3GPP LTE network deployment and augment it with all necessary support to provide realtime D2D connectivity over emerging Wi-Fi-Direct (WFD) technology. As a result, our LTE-assisted WFD D2D system enjoys the required flexibility while meeting the existing standards in every feasible detail. Further, this paper provides an account on the extensive measurement campaign conducted with our implementation. The resulting real-world measurements from this campaign quantify the numerical effects of D2D functionality on the resultant system performance. Consequently, they shed light on the general applicability of LTE-assisted WFD solutions and associated operational ranges.

Analysis of Indoor Localization Technology for Exhibition Services and Application Method of VLC/RF Converged Localization (전시 서비스를 위한 실내 측위 기술 분석 및 VLC/RF 결합 측위 적용 방안)

  • Recently, as the supply of smart phone is spreading and the exhibition industries are rapidly growing, future exhibitions are evolving toward active, customized, interactive, tangible services, which can give more satisfaction to visitors. To realize this services, the indoor localization in the exhibition of visitors is very important and according to the accuracy of localization the quality of services for exhibition are also different. In this paper, state-of-the art indoor localization techniques are investigated and new localization method are proposed. To achieve this goal, future exhibition service types are proposed, which are connected with IT technology. And also, BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) technology including comparison of specifications and representative localization technologies are analysed. Furthermore we performed comparison study and simulation between RF and VLC channels. Finally based on this, we proposed converged VLC and RF(Wi-Fi and BLE) localization technique for exhibition.

  • As more people use Wi-Fi and hotspot, unauthorized APs become one of big security problems in modern society. From the beginning of 2010, researchers study about unauthorized AP continually and contributed a lot of methods of detecting unauthorized AP that use wireless resources. Many researches about unauthorized AP detection use time-delay measurement (e.g., average or standard deviation) which is caused by additional wireless connection. In the most previous researches, however, the unauthorized APs consist of laptop and pulg-in Wi-Fi adaptor, and researchers did not concern about time-delay caused by software network sharing. In this paper, we show that existing unauthorized AP detection scheme that can not efficiently classify the high performance unauthorized AP.

Study Growth Environmental Monitoring and Controlling Platform for Hydroponic (양액재배를 위한 생육환경 모니터링 및 제어 플랫폼에 관한 연구)

  • According to global trend, despite the overall scale of agricultural industry has been downsized, agriculture accommodating cutting-edge ICT technologies has been proliferated, and various timely-issued relevant researches have been on progress to deploy the future food cultivation. In this paper, we propose an effective nutrient management system with web-based monitoring with functionality of controlling temperature, humidity, pH (hydrogen ion), EC (Electric Conductivity), LED and cooling fan to maintain the hydroponic nurturing environment being optimal. In this paper, in order the arduino hardware and java software are employed to control the nurturing environment automatically in optimal fashion. In proposed system, due to the usage of WiFi router with the socket communication and DB-assisted Web server with proper interfaces, it allows to facilitate the management to keep monitoring and controling overall hydroponic nurturing environment. Since the proposed Web-based management system provides the superior reliability, the short nurturing period and the robustness to the pest by controlling LED emitting color rather than conventional system, so it can be applied and appropriate for in-house vegetable factory overcoming limitation of time and location.

MissingFound: An Assistant System for Finding Missing Companions via Mobile Crowdsourcing

  • Looking for missing companions who are out of touch in public places might suffer a long and painful process. With the help of mobile crowdsourcing, the missing person's location may be reported in a short time. In this paper, we propose MissingFound, an assistant system that applies mobile crowdsourcing for finding missing companions. Discovering valuable users who have chances to see the missing person is the most important task of MissingFound but also a big challenge with the requirements of saving battery and protecting users' location privacy. A customized metric is designed to measure the probability of seeing, according to users' movement traces represented by WiFi RSSI fingerprints. Since WiFi RSSI fingerprints provide no knowledge of users' physical locations, the computation of probability is too complex for practical use. By parallelizing the original sequential algorithms under MapReduce framework, the selecting process can be accomplished within a few minutes for 10 thousand users with records of several days. Experimental evaluation with 23 volunteers shows that MissingFound can select out the potential witnesses in reality and achieves a high accuracy (76.75% on average). We believe that MissingFound can help not only find missing companions, but other public services (e.g., controlling communicable diseases).

Design of Hybrid Communication Structure for Video Transmission in Drone Systems (드론 영상 전송용 하이브리드 통신 구조의 설계)

  • In modern society drones are actively utilized in the fields of security, defense, agriculture, communication and so on. Smart technology and artificial intelligence software have been developed with convergence, and the field of use is expected to expand further. On the point of the excellent performance of drones one of the essential technologies is the wireless communication that make the ground facility receive the video streaming obtained by the drones in the air. In the research the concept of communication region is proposed to cover the both the low altitude region for Wi-Fi communication and the high altitude region for LTE communication for the sake of video transmission. Also the hybrid communication structure is designed along the proposed concept and the proposed system is implemented as a communication system in the small size which can be mounted in a small size of drone. It is confirmed that the proposed system contains the effectiveness by showing the ability to successfully transmit HD video streaming in the range of 500 meters and the transfer time between two different communication systems is measured in 200msec by the experiments.

  • It is currently undergoing the fourth industrial revolution, which is the convergence of ICT and manufacturing, connecting both industrial equipment and production processes to one network and communicating with each other. The fact that they are connected to one network has the advantage of management, but there is a risk of security. In particular, Wi-Fi can be easily accessed by outsiders through a software change of the MAC address or password exposures. In this paper, by applying the method of Beacon using a Bluetooth Low Energy Add in Bluetooth 4.0, we propose a system of black-box approach to secure connections to wireless Internet, users do not have to know the password. We also implemented the proposed system using the raspberry pi and verified the effectiveness of a real-time system by testing the communication.

  • Recently, indoor location recognition technology using Wi-Fi fingerprints has been applied and operated in various industrial fields and public services. Along with the interest in machine learning technology, location recognition technology based on machine learning using wireless signal data around a terminal is rapidly developing. At this time, in the process of collecting radio signal data required for machine learning, the accuracy of location recognition is lowered due to distorted or unsuitable data for learning. In addition, when location recognition is performed based on data collected at a specific location, a problem occurs in location recognition at surrounding locations that are not included in the learning. In this paper, we propose a learning data preprocessing technique to obtain an improved position recognition result through the preprocessing of the collected learning data.

  • It has recently been noticed that the headway of unlicensed wireless technology is necessary as user's demands of wireless tech increase and the development of high-speed data service by using low-power short-range wireless network is needed. Hence, it is inevitable to study sharing and coexistence for broadband spectrum of diverse unlicensed application with wide bandwidth. In this paper, an interference examination between unlicensed WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) in the 6GHz and OB (Outside Broadcasting) system which is an incumbent service in the same frequency band was conducted and it suggests separation distance for the coexistence. Thus, MCL (Minimum Coupling Loss) and MC (Monte Carlo) methods were used to set up interference scenarios for the interference analysis and compute the separation distance between two systems according to the same frequency band and frequency separation.

Ultimate-Game Automatic Trace and Analysis System Using IoT (사물인터넷 기반 얼티미트 경기 자동추적 및 분석 시스템)

  • In this paper, by applying IoT technology to the Ultimate game, which is one of the games using Flyingdisc, the process of the game is traced based on the players and the flyingdisc, and a comprehensive relationship analysis between players is performed on the results of the game. A WiFi module with built-in GPS is attached in the players and flyingdisc. The player's ID, latitude/longitude values received from GPS and time are stored in the database in realtime during the game. Process informations of the game is also stored in the database at the same time using mobile Ultimate game App. Based on this informations after the game is over, we developed a system that can perform comprehensive analysis of the game contents. By using the informations stored in the database, the player-based game process and the flyingdisc-based scoring process are visualized in the virtual playground. Various game result informations for players are graphically analyzed using Python.
