Optimized Working Distance of a Micro-optic OCT Imaging Probe

  • We have investigated optimization of the working distance (WD) for a highly miniaturized imaging probe for endoscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT). The WD is the axial distance from the distal end of the imaging probe to its beam focus, which is demanded for dimensional margins of protective structures, operational safety, or full utilization of the axial imaging range of OCT. With an objective lens smaller than a few hundred micrometers in diameter, a micro-optic imaging probe naturally exhibits a very short WD due to the down-scaled optical structure. For a maximized WD careful design is required with the optical aperture of the objective lens optimally filled by the incident beam. The diffraction-involved effect was taken into account in our analysis of the apertured beam. In this study, we developed a simple design formula on the maximum achievable WD based on our diffraction simulation. It was found that the maximum WD is proportional to the aperture size squared. In experiment, we designed and fabricated very compact OCT probes with long WDs. Our 165-㎛-thick fiber-optic probes provided WDs of 3 mm or longer w ith reasonable OCT imaging performance.

Data-driven event detection method for efficient management and recovery of water distribution system man-made disasters (상수도관망 재난관리 및 복구를 위한 데이터기반 이상탐지 방법론 개발)

  • Water distribution system (WDS) pipe bursts are caused from excessive pressure, pipe aging, and ground shift from temperature change and earthquake. Prompt detection of and response to the failure event help prevent large-scale service interruption and catastrophic sinkhole generation. To that end, this study proposes a improved Western Electric Company (WECO) method to improve the detection effectiveness and efficiency of the original WECO method. The original WECO method is an univariate Statistical Process Control (SPC) technique used for identifying any non-random patterns in system output data. The improved WECO method multiples a threshold modifier (w) to each threshold of WECO sub-rules in order to control the sensitivity of anomaly detection in a water distribution network of interest. The Austin network was used to demonstrated the proposed method in which normal random and abnormal pipe flow data were generated. The best w value was identified from a sensitivity analysis, and the impact of measurement frequency (dt = 5, 10, 15 min etc.) was also investigated. The proposed method was compared to the original WECO method with respect to detection probability, false alarm rate, and averaged detection time. Finally, this study provides a set of guidelines on the use of the WECO method for real-life WDS pipe burst detection.

A Study on the Effectiveness of the Audit Review System (감리제도의 실효성에 대한 연구 - 회계정보의 질을 중심으로 -)

  • We examine evidence on the relationship between firms that targeted by the Financial Supervisory Service for allegedly manipulating annual earnings and accounting quality measured by the discretionary accruals, an issue with important public policy implications. The main purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate the extent to which Korean WDS(Window Dressing Settlement) firms identified by the financial supervisory service in their audit review exhibit higher level of accounting quality in order to avoid any potential negative effects and to regain public confidence after audit review. In this study, we analyzed 51 WDS firms and 102 control firms which traded in the Korean Stock Exchange market during the period from 2000 to the 2010. The number of observations subject to various tests are 251 and 502 firm-years for WDS and control samples respectively across the 5 year sample period. The results of the study show that the accounting quality after auditor review be significantly improved. This result suggests that the FSS's audit review system would control the accounting quality and then improve the transparency of the accounting information. Thus it may be suggested that the current audit review system is efficient ways to lead listed firms to provide transparent financial statements.

  • TFT2DS was developed to provide the usability as an analytic and design tool. The static characteristics of a-Si TFTs demonstrated a good agreement between simulated and measured data. This paper shows that WDS can optimize the physical parameters of a-Si through sensitivity simulations and compute the static characteristics of a-Si TFTs.

The Effect of Electroplating Parameters on the Compositions and Morphologies of Sn-Ag Bumps (Sn-Ag 범프의 조성과 표면 형상에 영향을 미치는 도금 인자들에 관한 연구)

  • With the variation of Ag concentration in bath, current density, duty cycle, additive and agitation for electroplating of Sn-Ag solder, the compositions and the morphologies of solder were studied. It was possible to controll Ag content in Sn-Ag solder by varying Ag concentration in bath and current density. The microstructure size of Sn-Ag solder decreased with increasing current density. Duty cycle of pulse electroplating and quantity of additive affected on Ag content of deposit and surface roughness. In this work eutectic Sn-Ag solder bumps with fine pitch of 30 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and height of 15 $\mu\textrm{m}$ was formed successfully. The Ag content of electrodeposited solder was confirmed by EDS and WDS analyses and the surface morphologies was analyzed by SEM and 3D surface analyzer.

  • Groundwater and soil contamination by the leak of leachates from the waste disposal site (WDS) is one of the serious environmental problems, and leachates are generally produced by the biogeochmical decomposition and/or precipitation in the WDS. At the Sindae-dong waste disposal site in Taejon, the average Cu, Pb and Zn concentrations in the surrounding soils are higher than those in other Korean soils but these are not high enough to cause any harmful effect to man through the crop plants. Copper, Pb and Zn are not detected in the groundwater samples but the pH of the sample is 5.6 which is not suitable for the drinking water. In contaminated soil samples, the heavy metal concentrations are higher in subsurface soil than in surface soil and it may be influenced by the leachates in groundwater. With the electric resistivity method, the water contains layers are found in contaminated soils and the resistivity values are considerably low because of the dispersion of plume by the leak of leachates. According to the distance from the leak point of leachate, resistivity values increased and heavy metal concentraions in soils decreased due to the reduction of plume.

DISCOVERY OF WHITE DWARFS IN THE GLOBULAR CLUSTERS M13 AND M22 USING HST ACS PHOTOMETRIC DATA

  • A search for hot and bright white dwarfs (WDs) in the Milky Way globular clusters M13 (NGC 6205) and M22 (NGC 6656) is carried out using the deep and homogeneous V I photometric catalog of Anderson et al. and and Sarajedini et al., based on data taken with the ACS/WFC aboard the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). V versus V − I color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of M13 and M22 are constructed and numerous spurious detections are rejected according to their photometric quality parameters qfit(V ) and qfit(I). In the case of M13, further radial restriction is applied to reject central stars with higher photometric errors due to central crowding. From each resultant V versus V −I CMD, sixteen and thirteen WD candidates are identified in M13 and M22, respectively. They are identified as stellar objects in the accompanying ACS/WFC images and are found to be randomly distributed across the central regions of M13 and M22. Their positions in the CMDs are in the bright part of the DA WD cooling sequences indicating that they are true WDs. In order to confirm their nature, follow-up spectroscopic observations are needed.

Evaluation of leakage detection performance according to leakage scenarios of water distribution systems based on deep neural networks (DNN기반 상수도시스템 누수시나리오에 따른 누수탐지성능 평가)

  • In Water Distribution Systems (WDSs), can abnormal hydraulic and water quality conditions such as red-water phenomenon and leakage occur. To restore them, data is generated through various meters data to predict and detect. However, in the case of leakage if difficult to detect unless direct exploration is performed. Among them, unreported leakage, are not seen visually and account for the most considerable volumes of leakage, which leads to economic loss. Bur direct exploration is limited through on site conditions such as securing professional manpower. In this paper, leakage volumes and location were randomly generated for the WDS, which was assumed to be calibrated, and it was detected through a deep learning model. For abnormal data generation, the leakage was simulated using the emitter coefficient, and leakage detection was successfully performed through the generated abnormal data and normal data.

  • Langasite$(La_{3}Ga_{5}SiO_{14})$ single crystal was successfully grown by Floating Zone (FZ) method and characterized. The growth rate was 1.5 mm/h and the rotation speed was 15 rpm for an upper rotation and 13 rpm for a lower rotation. The grown crystal was 12 mm in length and 6 mm in diameter. The grown crystal was dark orange color and it was grown along [001] direction. The composition of grown crystal and the structure were analyzed using XRD and WDS. The electrical properties of grown crystal at various frequencies and temperatures were discussed.
