Accurate Measurement of Twist Angle for Analysis of Azimuthal Anchoring Energy and Rubbing Direction of LC Panels of IPS Mode

  • A new method is developed for the measurement of twist angles of LC molecules in an LC panel with angular resolution of 0.01degree, which allows measurement of LC panels with small twist angles. The method is based on the analysis of the change in polarization state of a light beam as it passes through the LC panel in test is rotated in-plane. Compared to other traditional method, including the analysis of transmittance change, our method is more sensitive and more precise. This method allows accurate determination of anchoring energy and close analysis of the rubbing process in the fabrication of IPS mode LC panels.

  • 800kV GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear) was first developed by Hyosung Corporation in Korea at Dec. 1998 and is going to be installed first in the Dangjin Thermal Plant. We intoned to verify the structural safety of 800kV GIS under seismic load. The modal analysis of 800kV GIS has been carried out to obtain the natural frequency and mode shape. PATRAN was used for mode)ing exactly 800kV GIS Geometry. 800kV GIS FE(Finite Element) model was constructed of shell elements for the enclosures and beam elements for the conductors and the support insulators NASTRAN was used for analyzing the normal modes of 800kV GIS FE model.

  • In order to design thermally trigger controlled persistent current switch(PCS) for MRI magnet system, it is very important to know informations of applied adiabatic method and condition to get designed resistance and characteristics. Adiabatic part of PCS is consist of cotton-gummed tape and cryogenic stycast. This adiabatic method has the advantage of continuously winding superconducting and adiabatic part of PCS and reducing the time of manufacture. We experimentally derived averaged thermal conductivity on the assumption that shape of adiabatic part of PCS is that of pipe. In result, averaged thermal conductivity is about 0.29 W/m K and designed value is very satisfied with actual experimental data.

  • One problem in giant magnetoresistance(GMR) spin valves and magnetic tunneling junctions(MTJ) exchange biased by Mn-based antiferromagnets is the Mn diffusion into the ferromagnetic layer and other layers upon annealing.$^{1-3}$ It seems that Mn diffusion that may occur during annealing has a key role in the exchange biasing. We have fabricated multilayers inserting the nanolayer(NL) between antiferromagnet and ferromagent using ion-beam deposition system to study the diffusion effect for the exchange bias. (omitted)

  • Coatings of hydroxyapatite (HA) and tricalcium phosphate/HA (TCP/HA) on titanium were fabricated by ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD). Significant effect of the Ca-P coatings on human Gingival Fibroblasts (HGFs) attachment and formation of type I collagen were found by using immunofluorescence microscope. TCP/HA and HA coatings exerted more HGFs attachment and collagen I formation. Comparing with HA coating, TCP/HA coating exhibited better responses during the late period of the tests. This investigation indicated that this surface modification method may enhance the biological seal at the cervical level of the titanium dental implants.

  • It should be noted that the critical chloride threshold level is not considered to be a unique value for all conditions. This value is dependent on concrete mixture proportions, cement type and constituents, presence of admixtures, environmental factors, steel reinforcement surface conditions, and other factors. In this study, the accelerated corrosion test for reinforcing steel was conducted by electrochemical and sea water-circulated method, respectively and during the test, corrosion monitoring by half cell potential method was carried out to estimate the critical chloride threshold value when corrosion for reinforcing steel in concrete was perceived. For this purpose, lollypop and beam test specimens were made for $31.4\%,\;41.5\%\;and\;49.7\%$ of w/c. respectively and then the accelerated corrosion test for reinforcing steel was executed. It was observed from the test that the time to initiation of corrosion was found to be different with water-cement ratio and the critical chloride threshold value was found to range from 0.91 to $1.27kg/m^3$.

열충격에 의한 세라믹코팅재의 파괴거동 (Fracture Behavior of Ceramic Coatings Subjected to Thermal Shock)

  • An experimental study was conducted to develop and understanding of fracture behavior of ceramic thermal barrier coating when subjected to a thermal shock loading. The thermal loading was applied using a 1.5kW $CO_2$ laser. In the experiments, beam-shaped specimens were subjected to a high heat flux for 4sec and cooling of 7sec in air. The interface crack length was increased as the crack density, the surface pre-crack legth and the coating thickness were increased. The center surface crack length was increased as the maximum surface temperature got higher and the surface pre-crack length for shorter.

  • Red emitting CaS:Eu,S electroluminescent(EL) device prepared at 550.deg. C by an electron-beam evaporation technique, demonstrated luminance of 175cd/m$\^$2/ and efficiency of 0.311m/W with 3kHz drive. Luminance was increased with the increase of applied voltage and frequency. From the results of the PL spectrum and the EL spectrum, the CaS:Eu, S device showed emission peak near 640nm resulted from the transition of EU$\^$2+/ 4f$\^$6/5d.rarw.4f$\^$7/. The capacitance of the phosphor layer from the Sawyer-Tower circuit was 10.5nF/cm$\^$2/.

  • 0.25 mm thickness super thin surface mounted device LED Lamp is developed with PCB type lead frame in which BT (Bismaleimide Triazine) resin is used. BT resin is removed by a laser beam in order to reduce the thermal resistance below $1\;^{\circ}C/W$ and transfer molding is used with silicone. Compared to conventional 0.4 mm thickness LED lamp, the developed LED lamp can be derived in high current and the luminance of the LED lamp is increased up to 240 mA.

  • In this paper, we investigated the diffraction grating efficiency on AsSeS and Ag-doped amorphous chalcogenide Ag/AsSeS thin film for used to volume hologram. The Chalcogenide film thickness was 0.5um and Ag thin film was varied from 10nm and 20nm. Diffraction efficiency was obtained from (P:P) polarized Diode Pumped Solid State laser(DPSS, 532.0nm: 200mW) beam on AsSeS and Ag/AsSeS thin films. As a results, diffraction grating was not formed at AsSeS thin film but at Ag-doped AsSeS thin film, diffraction grating was formed well compare with the former.
