The structure and mechanical properties of TiN and TiCN thin films deposited on STD61 steel substrates by the RF-sputtering methods has been studied by using XPS, XRD, micro-hardness tester, scratch tester, and wear-resistance tester. XPS results showed that the TiCN thin film formed with chemical bonding state. The TiN thin films grew with (111) orientation having the lowest strain energy by compressive stress, whereas the TiCN thin films grew with both (111) and (200) orientation, but (200) orientation having the lowest surface energy becomes dominant as carbon contents increase. The pre-etching treatment of substrate did not affect on the preferred orientation of thin films, but it played an important role in improving mechanical properties of thin films such as the hardness, adhesion and wear- resistance. Especially, the TiCN thin films showed the superior wear resistances due to high hardness and low friction coefficient compared with TiN thin films.

Phosphorus doped hydrogenated microcrystalline silicon (${\mu}c$-Si:H) thin films were deposited by PECVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition) method using 10.2% $SiH_4$ gas (diluted in Ar) and 308ppm $PH_3$ gas (diluted in Ar). The structural, optical and electrical properties of the films were investigated as a function of substrate temperature(15 to $400^{\circ}C$) and RF power(10 to 120W). The thin film deposited by varing substrate temperature had columnar structure and microcrystalline phase. The volume fraction of microcrystalline phase in the films deposited at RF power of 80W, increased with increasing substrate temperature up to $200^{\circ}C$, and then decreased with further increasing substrate temperature. Volume fraction of microcrystalline phase increased monotonously with increasing RF power at substrate temperature of $250^{\circ}C$. With increasing volume fraction of microcrystalline, electrical resistivity of films decreased to 0.274 ${\Omega}cm$.
Thin films of platinum were deposited on a $Al_{2}O_{3}/ONO(SiO_{2}-Si_{3}N_{4}-SiO_{2})/Si$-substrate with an 2-inch Pt(99.99 %) target at room temperature for 20, 30 and 60 min by DC magnetron sputtering, respectively X-ray diffract meter (XRD) was used to analyze the crystallanity of the thin films and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was employed for the investigation on crystal growth. The densification and the grain growth of the sputtered films have a considerable effect on sputtering time and annealing temperatures. The resistance of the Pt thin films was decreased with increasing deposition time and sintering temperature. Pt micro heater thin film deposited for 60 min by DC magnetron sputtering on an $Al_{2}O_{3}$/ONO-Si substrate and annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in air is found to be a most suitable micro heater with a generation capacity of $350^{\circ}C$ temperature and 645 mW power at 5.0 V input voltage. Adherence of Pt thin film and $Al_{2}O_{3}$ substrate was also found excellent. This characteristic is in good agreement with the uniform densification and good crystallanity of the Pt film. Efforts are on progress to find the parameters further reduce the power consumption and the results will be presented as soon as possible.
We have measured the Hall conductivity (${\sigma}_{xy}$) of c-axis-oriented $MgB_2$ thin films as functions of temperatures and magnetic fields. We found that the Hall conductivity (${\sigma}_{xy}$) is expressed by the sum of two terms, ${\sigma}_{xy}=C_l/H+C_3H$, where the coefficient $C_1\;and\;C_3$ are independent of the magnetic fields and have positive values. The coefficient $C_1$ is strongly dependent on the temperature, while the $C_3$ is weakly dependent on the temperature. We have obtained that the $C_1$ is proportional to $(1- T/T_c)^n$ with n = 4.2, which is consistent with the data observed in $La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4$ superconductors with low anisotropy ratio.
AlN thin films were deposited on sapphire substrates and ZnO templates by rf-magnetron sputtering. Powder-sintered AlN target was adopted for source material. Thickness of AlN layer was linearly dependent on plasma power from 50 to 110 W, and it decreased slightly when working pressure increased from 3 to 10 mTorr due to short mean free path of source material sputtered from AlN target by Ar working gas. When $N_2$ gas was mixed with Ar, the thickness of AlN layer decreased significantly because of low sputter yield of nitrogen. AlN layer was also deposited on ZnO template. However, it showed weak thermal stability that the interface between AlN and ZnO was deteriorated by rapid thermal annealing treatment above $700^{\circ}C$. In addition, ZnO layer was largely attacked by MOCVD ambient gas of hydrogen and ammonia around $700^{\circ}C$ through inferior AlN layer deposited by sputtering. And AlN layers were fully peeled off above $900^{\circ}C$.
The $(Sr_{0.85}Ca_{0.15})TiO_3$(SCT) thin films are deposited on Pt-coated electrode$(Pt/TiO_2/SiO_2/Si)$ using RF sputtering method. Ag, Cu, Al, Pt films for the formation of top eletrode were doposited on SCT thin films by thermal evaporator and sputtering. The effects of top electodes have be studied on SCT samples with a variety of top electrode materials.

Uncooled pyroelectric thin-film (Ba,Sr)TiO$_3$ infrared detectors thermally isolated from Si-substrate by Si$_3$N$_4$/SiO$_2$/Si$_3$N$_4$-membrane have been fabricated, and figures of merit for detectors were examined. The detector at $25^{\circ}C$ in air showed relatively high voltage responsivity of about 168.8 V/W and low specific detectivity of about 2.6$\times$10$^4$cm.Hz$^{1}$2//W at 1 Hz-chopping frequency because of very small signal-to-noise voltage ratio. It could be found that both thermal noise voltage and thermal time constant of the detector were very large by analyzing dependences of output waveforms on chopping frequency and temperature.
Micro gas sensors including thin film catal) tic type require stress-free memhrancs for etch stop of Si anisotropic etching and sublayer of sensing elements hecause stress is one of the main factors affecting breakdown of thin membranes. This paper reports the effects of deposition conditions on stress and refractive index of $SiN_{x}/SiO_{x}/(NON)$ films deposited by low pressure c11ernic;rl vapor deposition(L, t'CVI)) 2nd reactve sputtering. In the case of I.PCVI1, the stresses of $SiN_{x}$ and NON films arc $7.6{\times}10^{8}dyne/cm^2$ and $3.3{\times}10^{8}dyne/cm^2$, respectibely, and the refractive indices are 3.05 and 152, respectively. In the cxse oi the sputtered SiN, , compressi\e stress decreased in magnitude and then turned to tensility as increasing proc, ess pressure by lmtorr to 30mtorr and cicreasmg applied power density by $2.74W/cm^2$ to $1.10W/cm^2$. The hest value of film stress obt;~ined under condition of lOmtorr and $1.37W/cm^2$ in this' experiment was $1.2{\times}10^{9}dyne/cm^2$ cnnipressive. The refr~ict~ve index decreased from 2 05 to 1 89 as decreasing applied power density by lnitorr to 3Orntorr and increasing process pressure hy $2.74W/cm^2$ to $1.10W/cm^2$. Stresses of films deposited by both LPCVL) and sputtering decreased as incre;lsing temperature and showed plastic behavior as decreasing temperature.
Phase-change optical disk very rapid recording, high densification of data, resulting in high feedback rate and good C/N(carrier to noise) ratio of a feedback signal. However, repetitive thermal energy may cause the deformation of a disk or the lowering of an eliminability and a cyclability of the recording. The lowering of the cyclability can be reduced by insertion of thin layer of ZnS-$SiO_2$ dielectric thin film in appropriate disk structure between the upper and lower part of the recording film. Using the Taguchi method, optimum conditions satisfying both the optimized quality characteristic values and the scattering values for film formation were found to be the target R.F. power of 200W, the substrate R.F. power of 20W, the Ar pressure of 6mTorr, and the electrode distance of 6cm. From the refractive index data, the existence of the strong interaction between the electrode distance and Ar pressure was confirmed, and so was the large effect of the electrode distance on transmittance. According to the analysis of TEM and XRD, the closer the electrode distance was, the finer was the grain size due to the high deposition rate. However, the closer electrode distance brought the negative effect on the morphology of the film and caused the reduction of transmittance. AFM and SEM analyses showed that the closer the electrode distance was, the worse was the morphology due to the high rate of the deposition. Under optimum condition, the deposited thin film showed a good morphology and dense microstructure with less defects.
Effects of nitrogen and oxygen annealing on the carrier concentration, carrier mobility, electrical resistivity and PL characteristics as well as the crystallinity of ZnO films deposited on sapphire substrates by atomic layer deposition (ALD). X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), photoluminescence (PL) analyses, and Hall measurement were performed to investigate the crystallinity, optical properties and electrical properties of the ZnO thin films, respectively. According to the XRD analysis results the crystallinity of the ZnO film annealed in an oxygen atmosphere is better than that of the ZnO film annealed in a nitrogen atmosphere. Annealing undoped ZnO films grown by ALD at a high temperature above $600^{\circ}C$ improves the crystallinity and enhances W emission but deteriorates the electrical conductivity of the flms. The resistivity of the ZnO film annealed particularly at $800^[\circ}C$ in a nitrogen atmosphere is much higher than that annealed at the same temperature in an oxygen atmosphere.
