  • Recently, with the development of the ICT environment, the use of the software is growing rapidly. And the number of the web server software used with a variety of users is also growing. However, There are also various damage cases increased due to a software security vulnerability as software usage is increasing. Especially web shell hacking which abuses software vulnerabilities accounts for a very high percentage. These web server environment damage can induce primary damage such like homepage modification for malware spreading and secondary damage such like privacy. Source code weaknesses checking system is needed during software development stage and operation stage in real-time to prevent software vulnerabilities. Also the system which can detect and determine web shell from checked code in real time is needed. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the system improving security for web server by detecting web shell attacks which are invisible to existing detection method such as Firewall, IDS/IPS, Web Firewall, Anti-Virus, etc. while satisfying existing secure coding guidelines from development stage to operation stage.

  • Through this study, we discovered that among three types of compressed data blocks generated through the Deflate algorithm, No-Payload Non-Compressed Block type (NPNCB) which has no literal data can be randomly generated and inserted between normal compressed blocks. In the header of the non-compressed block, there is a data area that exists only for byte alignment, and we called this area as DBA (Disposed Bit Area), where an attacker can hide various malicious codes and data. Finally we found the vulnerability that hides malicious codes or arbitrary data through inserting NPNCBs with infected DBA between normal compressed blocks according to a pre-designed attack scenario. Experiments show that even though contaminated NPNCB blocks were inserted between normal compressed blocks, commercial programs decoded normally contaminated zip file without any warning, and malicious code could be executed by the malicious decoder.

  • Evaluating seismic performance of urban structures for future earthquakes is one of the key prerequisites of rehabilitation programs. Irregular structures, as a specific case, are more susceptible to sustain earthquake damage than regular structures. The study here is to identify damage states of vertically irregular structures using the well-recognized Park-Ang damage index. For doing this, a regular 3-story reinforced concrete (RC) structure is first designed based on ACI-318 code, and a peak ground acceleration (PGA) of 0.3 g. Some known vertical irregularities such as setback, short column and soft story are then applied to the regular structure. All the four structures are subjected to seven different earthquakes accelerations and different amplitudes which are then analyzed using nonlinear dynamic procedure. The damage indices of the structures are then accounted for using the pointed out damage index. The results show that the structure with soft story irregularity sustains more damage in all the earthquake records than the other structures. The least damage belongs the regular structure showing that different earthquake with different accelerations and amplitudes have no significant effect on the regular structures.

  • Nowadays, with the rapid spread of streaming services in the internet world, security vulnerabilities are also increasing rapidly. For streaming security, this paper proposes a PN(pseudo-random noise) distributed structure-based security processor for web streaming contents(SP-WSC). The proposed SP-WSC is basically a PN distributed code algorithm designed for web streaming characteristics, so it can secure various multimedia contents. The proposed SP-WSC is independent of the security vulnerability of the web server. Therefore, SP-WSC can work regardless of the vulnerability of the web server. That is, the SP-WSC protects the multimedia contents by increasing the defense against external unauthorized signals. Incidentally it also suggests way to reduce buffering due to traffic overload.

  • In recent years, the software vulnerability becomes an important problem to the safety in operating system kernel. Many organizations endeavor to publish patches soon after discovery of vulnerability. In spite of the effort, end-system administrators hesitate to apply the patches to their system. The reasons of hesitation are the reboot disruption and the distrust of patches. To solve this problem we propose a dynamic update system for non-updatable kernel, named DUNK. The DUNK provides: 1) a dynamic update mechanism at function-level granularity to overcome the reboot disruption and 2) a safety verification mechanism to overcome the distrust problem, named MAFIA. In this paper, we describe the design of DUNK and detailed algorithm of MAFIA.

  • Blockchain has been developed as a key technology for many cryptocurrency systems such as Bitcoin. These days, blockchain technology attracts many people to adopt it to various fields beyond cryptocurrency systems for their information sharing and processing. However, with the development and increasing adoption of the blockchain, security incidents frequently happen in the blockchain systems due to their implementation flaws. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, we analyze the software vulnerabilities of Bitcoin and Ethereum, which are the most widely used blockchain applications in real world. For that purpose, we conduct an in-depth analysis of source code of them to detect software vulnerabilities, and examine an OS command injection attack exploiting the detected ones.

  • With increase of electric vehicle in the road, the number of charging/discharging infrastructure for electric vehicle in public space is also increased rapidly. To charge or discharge the electric vehicle the user of electric vehicle and service provider should verify the each other's identity to minimize security vulnerability. This paper proposes mutual authentication scheme between electric vehicle and charging/discharging service provider with help of hash function and Message Authentication Code(MAC). Also efficient operating scheme for charging/discharging service system is proposed. The analysis shows that the system has robustness against security vulnerability. Also this system can keep the sensitive personal information of service user safely.

  • One of celebrities using Social media caught public's eye and interest in Korea. Thereby the number of the user has grown rapidly and by last year it had reached to about 770 million. But at the same time, it has brought us social issues such as invasion of privacy, spreading of malicious code, and stealing of ID. To solve these problems, first the government need to establish adequate law and policy. Second, Service provider should remove vulnerability in the security system and filter illegal information. Third, individual user should put more effort to protect their own privacy. This paper will suggest a solution of using the Social media more sound and secure.

  • Form of backdoor penetration attacks "trapdoor" penetration points to bypass the security features and allow direct access to the data. Backdoor without modifying the source code is available, and even code generation can also be modified after compilation. This approach by rewriting the compiler when you compile the source code to insert a specific area in the back door can be due to the use of the method. Defense operations and the basic structure of the backdoor or off depending on the nature of the damage area can be a little different way. This study is based on the diagnosis of a back door operating mechanism acting backdoor analysis methods derived. Research purposes in advance of the attack patterns of malicious code can respond in a way that is intended to be developed. If we identify the structures of backdoor and the infections patterns through the analysis, in the future we can secure the useful information about malicious behaviors corresponding to hacking attacks.

  • It is news from nowhere that post-quantum cryptography has side-channel analysis vulnerability. Side-channel analysis attack method and countermeasures for code-based McEliece cryptosystem and lattice-based NTRU cryptosystem have been investigated. Unfortunately, the investigation of the ring-LWE cryptosystem in terms of side-channel analysis is as yet insufficient. In this paper, we propose a chosen ciphertext simple power analysis attack that can be applied when ring-LWE cryptography operates on 8-bit devices. Our proposed attack can recover the key only with [$log_2q$] traces. q is a parameter related to the security level. It is used 7681 and 12289 to match the common 128 and 256-bit security levels, respectively. We identify the vulnerability through experiment that can reveal the secret key in modular add while the ring-LWE decryption performed on real 8-bit devices. We also discuss the attack that uses a similarity measurement method for two vectors to reduce attack time.
